Attitude, Knowledge, and Practice on Evidence-Based Nursing among Registered Nurses in Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospitals: A Multiple Center Cross-Sectional Survey in China
Objective. This study was to describe RNs’ attitude, knowledge, and practice on evidence-based practice (EBP) in traditional Chinese nursing field and to estimate the related sociodemographic and professional factors. Methods. A multiple institutional cross-sectional survey design with self-reported EBP Questionnaire (EBPQ) and self-designed questionnaires were used. Results. The average scores of the total EBPQ were with a mean of 4.24 (SD = 0.79). The score of attitude was the highest one, followed by the knowledge score, and the lowest one is practice. RNs with longer experience reported stronger EBP knowledge (H=6.64, P<0.05). And RNs under higher working pressure reported less positive attitudes (ρ=0.17, P<0.001), whereas RNs holding negative professional attitude reported lower scores (Spearman’s ρ: 0.12 to 0.15, P<0.001). Significant statistics were found between RNs with research experience and without in attitude (t=-2.40, P<0.05) and knowledge (t=-2.43, P<0.05). Conclusions. Respondents generally viewed EBP positively and their attitudes towards EBP tended to be more positive than knowledge and practice of EBP. Data also showed that longer working experience, having administrative position, research experience, lighter working load, and better professional attitude might facilitate EBP
The Research on Establishment of “Clinical Practice Guide of Blood Specimen Collection, Preservation and Delivery for Clinical Nurse”: Protocol Description
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: The correctness of the blood test is closely related to the sample. According to the recent reported data, 80 percentage unsatisfactory results of the clinical test are due to the poor quality of sample, especially the blood sample. Clinical practice guide (CPG) is directly to instruct the clinical nursing practice. And the recommendations in the clinical practice guide are based on the best available study evidences. There is lack of CPG about blood sample specimen collection, preservation and delivery (BSCPD) in China. Additionally, related published clinical studies are accumulated in a great deal. Therefore, establishing a CPG is necessarily and practicable. The detailed objectives are: 1) to describe and analyze the research status of BSCPD in China; 2) to describe and analyze the practice status of BSCPD in China; 3) to systematic appraise the available evidences of BSCPD; 4) to establish the clinical practice guide of BSCPD; 5) to judge the clinical practice guide of BSCPD. METHODS: Objective 1): Bibliometric analysis is applied, the database include China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database (CNKI) and Sino-med and the research period is from the year of 2003 to 2013; Objective 2): Questionnaire survey for all the registered clinical nurses in a grade three hospital; objective 3): Systematic review according to Cochrane collaboration handbook 5.1.0 is applied which includes assessment of risk of bias, data extraction, data analysis; Objective 4) and 5): Using the appraising guidelines research and evaluation (AGREE) to evaluate of the draft of CPG of BSCPD. RESULTS: Bibliometric analysis started in 2013, and search strategies have been established. Questionnaire survey setting and depth interviewees have been identified and communicated. CONCLUSIONS: The CPG of BSCPD will serve as an important resource in instructing and modifying clinical nursing practice. Given this CPG of BSCPD will be a draft version, the applicability and suitability of it will need a further evaluated in the real clinical nursing world

SDSS J163459.82+204936.0: A Ringed Infrared-Luminous Quasar with Outflows in both Absorption and Emission Lines
SDSS J1634+2049 is a local (z = 0.1293) infrared-luminous quasar with LIR=
10^11.91 Lsun. We present a detailed multiwavelength study of both the host
galaxy and the nucleus. The host galaxy demonstrates violent, obscured star
formation activities with SFR ~ 140 Msun yr^-1, estimated from either the PAH
emission or IR luminosity. The optical to NIR spectra exhibit a blueshifted
narrow cuspy component in Hb, HeI5876,10830 and other emission lines
consistently with an offset velocity of ~900 km/s, as well as additional
blueshifting phenomena in high-ionization lines , while there exist blueshifted
broad absorption lines (BALs) in NaID and HeI*3889,10830, indicative of the AGN
outflows producing BALs and emission lines. Constrained mutually by the several
BALs with CLOUDY, the physical properties of the absorption-line outflow are
derived as follows: 10^4 < n_H <= 10^5 cm^-3, 10^-1.3 <= U <= 10^-0.7 and
10^22.5<= N_H <= 10^22.9 cm^-2 , similar to those derived for the emission-line
outflows. The similarity suggests a common origin. Taking advantages of both
the absorption lines and outflowing emission lines, we find that the outflow
gas is located at a distance of 48 - 65 pc from the nucleus, and that the
kinetic luminosity of the outflow is 10^44-10^46 erg s^-1. J1634+2049 has a
off-centered galactic ring on the scale of ~ 30 kpc that is proved to be formed
by a recent head-on collision by a nearby galaxy. Thus this quasar is a
valuable object in the transitional phase emerging out of dust enshrouding as
depicted by the co-evolution scenario.Comment: 13 figures, 6 tables; accepted for publication in Ap
Protective effect of the daming capsule on impaired baroreflexes in STZ-induced diabetic rats with hyperlipoidemia
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The Daming capsule (DMC) is a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat hyperlipoidemia. Both clinic trials and studies on animal models have demonstrated that DMC is beneficial against diabetic symptoms. Impairment of the baroreflex can cause life-threatening arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). This study was designed to elucidate the effects of DMC on baroreflexes in streptozocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats with hyperlipoidemia.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: untreated controls, rats pretreated STZ and high lipids (a diabetes model or DM rats), and DM rats treated with DMC. The baroreflex sensitivity was examined during intravenous injection of phenylephrine (PE) or sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and quantified by the change in heart rate over the change in mean arterial blood pressure (ΔHR/ΔMABP). Morphological remodeling of baroreceptors was analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The mRNA levels and expression of GluR2 and a GABAA receptor subunit were measured by quantitative RT-PCR and Western blotting.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Compared to untreated DM rats, DMC significantly elevated the ratio of ΔHR/ΔMABP by enhancing the compensatory reduction in HR (-ΔHR) in response to PE-induced hypertension (+ΔMABP) (<it>P </it>< 0.05). In the presence of SNP, DMC increased the ΔMABP (<it>P </it>< 0.05). In addition, DMC markedly shortened the duration of blood pressure changes elicited by PE or SNP in DM rats compared to the untreated DM group (<it>P </it>< 0.05). Electron microscopy revealed disrupted myelin sheaths, swollen ER, and lysed mitochondria in the nucleus ambiguous (NAm) DM rats. These signs of neuropathology were largely prevented by treatment with DMC for 30 days. Treatment with DMC elevated both mRNA and protein level of GluR2 in the NAm of DM rats, but had no effect on GABAA receptor expression.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The Daming capsule partially reversed the parasympathetic baroreflex impairment observed in STZ-induced diabetic rats with hyperlipoidemia. Treatment with DMC also prevented the degeneration of neurons and myelinated axons in the brain stem NAm and reversed the down-regulation of GluR2 mRNA. Rescue of NAm function may contribute to the medicinal properties of DMC in diabetic rats.</p
Barriers to Research Utilization among Registered Nurses in Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospitals: A Cross-Sectional Survey in China
Background. As there might be relevant differences with regard to research utilization in the general hospitals, we aimed to study research utilization among registered nurses working in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals. Methods. A total of 648 registered nurses from 4 tertiary-level hospitals in China were recruited for participation. A modified BARRIERS Scale and self-designed questionnaires were used for data collection. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-tests, and one-way ANOVAs and Spearman correlation analysis. Results. Overall, items which belong to the subscale “Research” were identified as the most important barriers. Among the individual items, the lack of time on the job was ranked as the top barrier, followed by the lack of knowledgeable colleagues and by overwhelming research publications. Clinical experience, working pressure, job satisfaction, and research experience could be identified as associated factors for barriers to research utilization. Conclusions. Registered nurses in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals felt high barriers to research utilization. Reducing registered nurses’ working pressure, promoting their positive attitude to nursing, and improving research training might be helpful for increasing research utilization. Close cooperation between clinical and nursing schools or academic research centres might facilitate the necessary change in nursing education and routine
