The aim of the dissertation is to analyse temporal and spatial changes in long ā
term phenological observations in Latvia and to describe the influencing climatic
factors.
As part of the work, long term phenological observation data were compiled
into an electronic data base. The history of phenology as well as phenological
tendencies in world and temporal and spatial variability of phenological parameters in
Latvia were analyzed and compared with data from other European countries, and the
relationship between phenological data and influencing factors (air and soil
temperature, snow cover, atmospheric circulation patterns) was done as well. A new
method for the observation of bioclimatic parameters ā photo-monitoring (automatic,
autonomous cameras) ā was introduced.
Key words: phenological phases, phenological changes, indicators of seasons,
repeat digital images, Latvia
Assessment of long term phenological data in Latvia
Guntas GriÅ”ules maÄ£istra darba tÄma ir ilglaicÄ«go fenoloÄ£isko novÄrojumu analÄ«ze LatvijÄ. MaÄ£istra darbÄ raksturota pasaules un Latvijas fenoloÄ£ijas vÄsture, fenoloÄ£iskÄs fÄzes ietekmÄjoÅ”ie faktori un fenoloÄ£iskÄs tendences pasaulÄ. Izmantojot lineÄro regresiju un Mann ā Kendall trenda testu, analizÄtas fenofÄzu iestÄÅ”anÄs izmaiÅas laika un telpas skatÄ«jumÄ LatvijÄ. DetalizÄtÄk raksturota Betula pendula un Acer platanoides veÄ£etÄcijas perioda mainÄ«ba, apskatÄ«tas 10 sugu fenoloÄ£iskÄs izmaiÅas normas periodÄ un ilgtermiÅa izmaiÅas no 1927. lÄ«dz 2004. gadam, kÄ arÄ« veikta ietekmÄjoÅ”o faktoru ā temperatÅ«ra un nokriÅ”Åi ā kopsakarÄ«bu analÄ«ze.

In master thesis the history of phenological observations in Latvia and world, factors affecting phenological phases and phenological tendencies in world are reviewed. Temporal and spatial aspects of onset of phenological phases in Latvia is analysed using linear regression and Mann ā Kendall trend test. The fluctuations of Betula pendula and Acer platanoides vegetation period are scrutinized; long term trends from 1927 to 2004 of phenological phases for other 10 plant species are studied and correlation between temperature and precipitation with phenological phases are analysed.
