This article provides background, philosophy, and program development strategies used for Sundance, a community-based dementia care program in Portland, Oregon. The program is an innovative extension of existing adult day services. It is designed to serve individuals with later-stage dementia who demonstrate challenging behaviors and live in the community with a family caregiver.
