Additive screening and formula optimization of microbial inhibitor having disease prevention and growth promotion effects on Avena sativa
In order to develop environment friendly microbial inhibitor that can also control disease and promote oat (Avena sativa) growth, the growth rate method and response surface methodology were used to screen wetting agents, preservatives and protective agents at optimal concentrations in this study. Antagonistic activity of the tested bacterium and cell-free fermentation liquid against pathogenic fungi was evaluated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) substratum plates by dual culture technique. Oxford cup method was used to measure antagonistic reaction between screened bacteria. According to each screened bacteria with 50 mL were mixed and cultured in Luria-bertani (LB) substratum. Additives of Wetting agents, UV-protectors, and preservatives were screened by single factor test on the growth concentration of screened mixed bacteria. Afterwards, the optimal additives and concentrations were screened by Box-Behnken method. The microbial inhibitor was detected according to national standards GB20287-2006 and tested on oat in a pot experiment. The results showed that: (1) Functional bacteria which including Bacillus velezensis and Brevundimonas faecalis had control effects of 50.00% to 83.29% on three pathogenic fungi, and their cell free-fermentation liquid could inhibit the growth of pathogenic fungi from 23.51% to 39.90%; (2) Tween-80 was most suitable as wetting agents for Mix biocontrol bacteria (MBB) with 1.00% mass fraction; Sorbitol was selected as UV protective agents for MBB with 0.50% mass fraction. And methyl paraben was used as a preservative for MBB, with 0.50% mass fraction; (3) The most effective adjuvant contained 14.96 mL/L Tween-80, 5.12 g/L methylparaben and 5.6 g/L sorbitol; and (4) The microbial inhibitor controlled 45.57% of oat root rot and increased plant height, root length and seedling biomass. This study provides a suitable environment for the protection of mixed biocontrol bacteria, and lays a foundation for the prevention and control of oat diseases, the promotion of growth and the improvement of quality
Changes in the Physical–Chemical Properties and Volatile Flavor Components of Dry-Cured Donkey Leg during Processing
In order to explore the quality variation and flavor formation of dry-cured donkey leg, the changes in physical-chemical composition, lipolytic, free amino acids content and volatile flavor compounds were investigated in this study. Six fresh, trimmed hind legs with average weight of 8.12 ± 0.8 kg were taken from male Dezhou donkeys slaughtered at the age of 24 months with the average live weight of 240 kg. The entire processing time was eight months long including six stages, specifically: cooling, salting, air-drying, fermenting and aging. Samples were collected at 0 d, 10 d, 20 d, 30 d, 65 d, 105 d and 165 d of processing. The results showed that the pH value remained stable in the range of 6.2~6.6. The moisture and water activity significantly decreased (p < 0.05) during processing. The chloride content, ash, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) and peroxide value (POV) significantly increased (p < 0.05), from 0.45% to 12.39%, from 3% to 17%, from 1.43 mg/kg to 8.98 mg/kg and from 1.39 g/100 g to 5.26 g/100 g, respectively. The thiobarbituric acid (TBARS) value reached its highest value of 0.39 mg MDA/kg at the end of the salting stage and then decreased to 0.34 mg MDA/kg. Eighteen free amino acids and fifteen free fatty acids were detected, and their contents were significantly increased during processing (p < 0.05). Volatile compounds were analyzed using solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Among 114 volatile compounds detected in dry-cured donkey leg, aldehydes, esters, alkane and alcohols were more abundant in the final products, with relative concentrations of 41.88%, 5.72%, 5.35% and 5.25%, respectively. Processing significantly affected the physical-chemical properties, which could contribute to the formation of flavor substances of dry-cured donkey leg
The fundamental plane of blazars based on the black hole spin-mass energy
We examine the fundamental plane of 91 Blazars which include FSRQs and BL
Lacs with known X-ray luminosity (), radio luminosity (), and black
hole mass measurements () to reflect the relationship between jet and
accretion for blazars. The fundamental plane of Blazars are

after considering the effect of beam factor. Our results suggest that the jet
of blazars has connection with accretion. We set the black hole spin energy as
a new variable to correct the black hole mass and explore the effect of black
hole spin on the fundamental relationship. We find that the fundamental plane
of Blazars is effected by the black hole spin, which is similar to the previous
work for AGNs. We additionally examine a new fundamental plane which is based
on the black hole spin-mass energy (). The new fundamental plane

with R-Square=0.575) shows that has a better correlation coefficient
comparing to the for fundamental plane of Blazars. These results support
that the black hole spin should be considered as a important factor for the
study of fundamental plane for Blazars. And these may further our understanding

Meat plays a significant role in human diets, providing a rich source of high-quality protein. With advancements in technology, research in the field of meat preservation has been undergoing dynamic evolution. To gain insights into the development of this discipline, the study
conducted an analysis and knowledge structure mapping of 1672 papers related to meat preservation research within the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) spanning from 2001 to 2023. And using software tools such as VOSviewer 1.6.18 and CiteSpace 5.8.R3c allowed for the convenient analysis of the literature by strictly following the software operation manuals. Moreover, the knowledge structure of research in the field of meat preservation was synthesized within the framework of “basic
research—technological application—integration of technology with fundamental research,” aligning with the research content. Co-cited literature analysis indicated that meat preservation research could be further categorized into seven collections, as well as highlighting the prominent role of the antibacterial and antioxidant properties of plant essential oils in ongoing research. Subsequently, the future research direction and focus of the meat preservation field were predicted and prospected. The findings of this study could offer valuable assistance to researchers in swiftly comprehending the discipline’s development and identifying prominent research areas, thus providing valuable guidance for shaping research topics
The effects of pH, temperature, and buffer concentration on the self-assembling behavior, secondary structure, and surface hydrophobicity of donkey and bovine β-casein
The self-assembling behavior, secondary structure, and surface hydrophobicity of purified donkey β-casein in terms of pH, temperature, and buffer concentration were investigated in comparison with commercial bovine β-casein. Critical micelle concentration of both β-caseins decreased with the lowering of pH (pH 8.0–6.0) and the increasing temperatures (25–50 °C). Critical micelle temperature of both β-caseins increased moving from pH 6.0 to 8.0 and aggregates larger than micelles formed at pH 6.0 that is close to their isoelectric point. Fluorescence spectroscopy analysis demonstrated that the maximum surface hydrophobicity was achieved at pH 6.0. The secondary structure was examined using circular dichroism spectroscopy, highlighting an increase of α-helix content and a decrease of unordered structures with the decrease of pH and increase of temperature. This work provides insights on parameters promoting molecular interactions involved in donkey β-CN self-association, useful to develop nanocarriers for encapsulating bioactive compounds in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications
Dose-related liver injury of Geniposide associated with the alteration in bile acid synthesis and transportation.
Fructus Gardenia (FG), containing the major active constituent Geniposide, is widely used in China for medicinal purposes. Currently, clinical reports of FG toxicity have not been published, however, animal studies have shown FG or Geniposide can cause hepatotoxicity in rats. We investigated Geniposide-induced hepatic injury in male Sprague-Dawley rats after 3-day intragastric administration of 100 mg/kg or 300 mg/kg Geniposide. Changes in hepatic histomorphology, serum liver enzyme, serum and hepatic bile acid profiles, and hepatic bile acid synthesis and transportation gene expression were measured. The 300 mg/kg Geniposide caused liver injury evidenced by pathological changes and increases in serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and γ-glutamytransferase (γ-GT). While liver, but not sera, total bile acids (TBAs) were increased 75% by this dose, dominated by increases in taurine-conjugated bile acids (t-CBAs). The 300 mg/kg Geniposide also down-regulated expression of Farnesoid X receptor (FXR), small heterodimer partner (SHP) and bile salt export pump (BSEP). In conclusion, 300 mg/kg Geniposide can induce liver injury with associated changes in bile acid regulating genes, leading to an accumulation of taurine conjugates in the rat liver. Taurocholic acid (TCA), taurochenodeoxycholic acid (TCDCA) as well as tauro-α-muricholic acid (T-α-MCA) are potential markers for Geniposide-induced hepatic damage
MTHFR Gene Polymorphism Association With Psoriatic Arthritis Risk and the Efficacy and Hepatotoxicity of Methotrexate in Psoriasis.
Aims
To assess whether MTHFR rs1801131 and rs1801133 SNPs are associated with concomitant psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and investigate the efficacy and hepatotoxicity of MTX in patients with psoriasis in the Han Chinese population.
Methods
This prospective, single-arm, interventional study recruited a total of 309 patients with psoriasis, 163 with psoriatic arthritis and 146 without psoriatic arthritis, who completed a 12-week MTX treatment and 1,031 healthy controls. Patients' characteristics including age, gender, disease duration, height, weight, smoking status, alcohol consumption, medical history, disease severity and liver function test results were accessed and recorded. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping of rs1801131 and rs1801133 in the MTHFR gene was performed.
Results
The rs1801133 CC genotype was more frequent in patients with PsA than those with PsO and healthy controls (42.3% vs. 28.8% vs. 33.1%, p < 0.05). The 90% reduction from baseline PASI score (PASI 90) response rates to MTX were significantly higher in patients with the rs1801133 TT genotype than those with the CT and CC genotype (33.96% vs. 19.31% vs. 14.41%, OR = 2.76, p = 0.006). The rs1801133 CT+TT genotype was more frequent in PsA patients with abnormal liver function than in those with normal liver function (p < 0.05). In addition, patients with the rs1801131 CT genotype had lower PASI 75 response rates to MTX (OR = 0.49, p = 0.01), and lower risk of ALT elevation (OR = 0.46, p = 0.04).
Conclusions
This study provided some evidence for MTHFR polymorphism association with the risk of PsA and the efficacy and hepatotoxicity of the low-dose MTX in the Chinese population. Given the relatively small sample size and potentially missed diagnosis of PsA, the results from this study warrant further investigation
An ensemble deep learning diagnostic system for determining Clinical Activity Scores in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy: integrating multi-view multimodal images from anterior segment slit-lamp photographs and facial images
BackgroundThyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) is the most prevalent autoimmune orbital condition, significantly impacting patients’ appearance and quality of life. Early and accurate identification of active TAO along with timely treatment can enhance prognosis and reduce the occurrence of severe cases. Although the Clinical Activity Score (CAS) serves as an effective assessment system for TAO, it is susceptible to assessor experience bias. This study aimed to develop an ensemble deep learning system that combines anterior segment slit-lamp photographs of patients with facial images to simulate expert assessment of TAO.MethodThe study included 156 patients with TAO who underwent detailed diagnosis and treatment at Shanxi Eye Hospital Affiliated to Shanxi Medical University from May 2020 to September 2023. Anterior segment slit-lamp photographs and facial images were used as different modalities and analyzed from multiple perspectives. Two ophthalmologists with more than 10 years of clinical experience independently determined the reference CAS for each image. An ensemble deep learning model based on the residual network was constructed under supervised learning to predict five key inflammatory signs (redness of the eyelids and conjunctiva, and swelling of the eyelids, conjunctiva, and caruncle or plica) associated with TAO, and to integrate these objective signs with two subjective symptoms (spontaneous retrobulbar pain and pain on attempted upward or downward gaze) in order to assess TAO activity.ResultsThe proposed model achieved 0.906 accuracy, 0.833 specificity, 0.906 precision, 0.906 recall, and 0.906 F1-score in active TAO diagnosis, demonstrating advanced performance in predicting CAS and TAO activity signs compared to conventional single-view unimodal approaches. The integration of multiple views and modalities, encompassing both anterior segment slit-lamp photographs and facial images, significantly improved the prediction accuracy of the model for TAO activity and CAS.ConclusionThe ensemble multi-view multimodal deep learning system developed in this study can more accurately assess the clinical activity of TAO than traditional methods that solely rely on facial images. This innovative approach is intended to enhance the efficiency of TAO activity assessment, providing a novel means for its comprehensive, early, and precise evaluation
