    Quantum SUSY signatures in low and high energy processes

    In the search for phenomenological evidence of supersymmetry through the indirect method of quantum signatures, it is useful to seek correlations of the non-standard quantum effects in low and high energy proceses, such as those involving on one hand the properties of the B-mesons and on the other hand the physics of the top quark and of the Higgs bosons. There are regions of the MSSM parameter space where the potential quantum SUSY signatures in the two energy regimes are strongly interwoven and therefore the eventual detection of these correlated quantum effects would strongly point towards the existence of underlying supersymmetric dynamics.Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX, 7 figs included with epsfig.     Determining the ratio of the H^+ -> \tau \nu to H^+ -> t b-bar decay rates for large \tan\beta at the Large Hadron Collider

    We present results on the determination of the observable ratio R=BR(H^+ -> \tau \nu)/BR(H^+ -> t b-bar) of charged Higgs boson decay rates as a discriminant quantity between Supersymmetric and non-Supersymmetric models. Simulation of measurements of this quantity through the analysis of the charged Higgs production process gb-> t b H^+ and relative backgrounds in the two above decay channels has been performed in the context of ATLAS. A ~12-14% accuracy on R can be achieved for \tan\beta=50, \mHc=300-500 GeV and after an integrated luminosity of 300 fb^-1. With this precision measurement, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) can easily discriminate between models for the two above scenarios, so long as \tan\beta > 20.Comment: LaTeX, 11 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables, Contribution to the Les Houches workshop ``Physics at TeV Colliders'', 26 May - 6 June, 200

    Improving logistics costs for transportation and trade facilitation

    Access to basic infrastructure services - roads, electricity, water, sanitation - and the efficient provision of the services, is a key challenge in the fight against poverty. Many of the poor (and particularly the extreme poor) in rural communities in Latin America live on average 5 kilometers or more from the nearest paved road, which is almost twice as far as non-poor rural households. There have been major improvements in access to water, sanitation, electricity, telecommunications, ports, and airports, but road coverage has not changed much, although some effort and resources have been invested to improve the quality of road networks. This paper focuses on the main determinants of logistics costs and physical access to services and, whenever possible, provides evidence of the effects of these determinants on competitiveness, growth, and poverty in Latin American economies. The analysis shows the impact of improving infrastructure and logistics costs on three fronts - macro (growth), micro (productivity at the firm level), and poverty (the earnings of poor/rural people). In addition, the paper provides recommendations and solutions that encompass a series of policies to reduce the prevalent high logistics costs and limited access to services in Latin America.     Supersymmetric QCD corrections to the charged Higgs boson decay of the top quark

    The one-loop supersymmetric QCD quantum effects on the width of the unconventional top quark decay mode t\rightarrow H^{+}\, b are evaluated within the MSSM. The study of this process is useful to hint at the supersymmetric nature of the charged Higgs emerging from that decay. Remarkably enough, recent calculations of supersymmetric corrections to Z-boson observables have shown that the particular conditions by which the decay t\rightarrow H^{+}\, b becomes competitive with the standard decay t\rightarrow W^{+}\,b have a chance to be realized in nature. This further motivates us to focus our attention on the dynamics of t\rightarrow H^{+}\, b as an excellent laboratory to unravel Supersymmetry at the quantum level in future experiments at Tevatron and at LHC

    Supersymmetric effects on heavy charged Higgs boson production in hadron colliders

    The production of a heavy supersymmetric charged Higgs boson (M_{H^{\pm}}> 200 GeV) at the Tevatron and at the LHC is studied. We include the leading one-loop quantum effects within the MSSM in the relevant high \tan\beta region. Whereas the chances for the Tevatron are limited, and critically depend on the size of the unknown NLO QCD effects, at the LHC the discovery range is more comfortable and may extend the reach above M_{H^{\pm}}= 1 TeV
