    Accessible tourism: Tourists with physical disability - segmentation based on perceived travel barriers

    Purpose: This study aims to explore the heterogeneity of the tourist market for people with a physical disability (PwPD) based on travel barriers, to serve them better, from a tourism marketing perspective. Design/methodology/approach: A market segmentation analysis was conducted on a sample of 480 PwPD in Sichuan Province, China, based on their perceived travel barriers. Data were obtained through three on-site and four online surveys. A four-step factor-item mixed segmentation, including factor analysis, cluster analysis, discriminant analysis and chi-square tests, was applied to examine the differences among PwPD tourist market segments in terms of various demographic characteristics, disability conditions (e.g. duration of disabilities and causes of impairment) and travel features (e.g. travel frequency and tourist destinations). Findings: This study revealed that the PwPD tourist market is heterogeneous due to individual perceived travel barriers. Three market segments were identified, namely, the Explorer Moderates group, the Explorer Minimals group and the Explorer Intensives group. Additionally, the three market segments were found to have significant differences in terms of travel barriers, demographic characteristics, travel features and disability conditions. Practical implications: This research provides suggestions for authorities and private entities to optimize the layout of accessible facilities in public areas for the benefit of all. It also offers crucial implications for tourism marketers to determine the key facets of marketing, for travel organizers to evolve the organization of travel groups for PwPD, and for practitioners to provide personalized tourism services. Originality/value: To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to apply perceived travel barriers as a market segmentation criterion in understanding PwPD as a heterogeneous travel market. The findings of this study initially expand the scope of application of the travel barrier model and deepen understanding of the Chinese PwPD tourist market from a marketing perspective. The study results elucidated the heterogeneity and characteristics of this market through a four-step factor-item mixed segmentation approach, offering new insights into the behaviors and experiences of travelers with disabilities

    A simple approach to synthesize novel sulfur/graphene oxide/multiwalled carbon nanotube composite cathode for high performance lithium/sulfur batteries

    A sulfur/graphene oxide/multiwalled carbon nanotube (S/GO/MWNT) composite was synthesized via a simple ultrasonic mixing method followed by heat treatment. By taking advantage of this solution-based self-assembly synthesis route, poisonous and noxious reagents and complicated fabrication processes are rendered unnecessary, thereby simplifying its manufacturing and decreasing the cost of the final product. Transmission and scanning electronic microscopy observations indicated the formation of the threedimensional interconnected S/GO/MWNTcomposite through the environmentally friendly process..

    Investigation of the interaction between the MIR-503 and CD40 genes in irradiated U937 cells

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a group of small noncoding RNAs that take part in diverse biological processes by suppressing target gene expression. Relatively few miRNAs have been studied in detail, especially miR-503, and hence the biological relevance of majority remains to be uncovered. Whether altered expression of miRNA-503 affects the immunity response to radiotherapy has yet to be addressed.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In the present study, we applied ionizing radiation with a dose of either 0.1 Gy or 5 Gy to irradiate U937 cells to confirm CD40 as a miR-503 target, which was identified using a bioimformatics tool. In high dose (5 Gy) ionizing-irradiated U937 cells, expression of miR-503 was up regulated while the expression of CD40 gene was down regulated. Using the transfection of the miR-503 gene into U937 cells and Luciferase assay, we confirmed that miR-503 suppressed the expression of CD40, and was a negtive regulator of CD40.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>To our knowledge, we are the first to describe involvement of miR-503 in radiobiological effect at a molecular level. This initial finding suggested the evidence that ionizing radiation could alter the expression of miR-503 and its target gene CD40, and may be very important to shed light on a possible mechanism regarding regulation of immune responses to irradiation.</p

    Hydrogen effects on nanomechanical behavior of additively manufactured 316L stainless steels

    Additive manufacturing (AM) has received considerable attention in recent years due to its ability to produce complex engineering components with reduced cost and waste, which simply cannot be made with conventional manufacturing processes. It has been reported that AM 316L austenitic stainless steel (SS) has excellent mechanical properties and possibly even breaks the strength-ductility trade-off. For practical industrial application, it is necessary to investigate the AM steel\u27s resistance to hydrogen embrittlement which is unavoidable in most strucral applications. In this work, we explore the hydrogen effects on nanomechanical responses of AM 316L SS (such as hardness, strain rate sensitivity, activation volume). The obtained results will be compared with those of conventional 316L SS and discussed in terms of hydrogen effect on plastic deformation and microstructure.     Deletion of FgHOG1 Is Suppressive to the mgv1 Mutant by Stimulating Gpmk1 Activation and Avoiding Intracellular Turgor Elevation in Fusarium graminearum

    Fusarium head blight caused by Fusarium graminearum is an important disease of wheat and barley. Previous studies have showed that all three MAP kinase genes, MGV1, FgHOG1, and GPMK1, are involved in regulating hyphal growth, sexual reproduction, plant infection, and stress responses in this pathogen. To determine the relationship between the Mgv1 and FgHog1 pathways, in this study, we generated and characterized the mgv1 Fghog1 double mutant. Deletion of FgHOG1 partially rescued the defects of the mgv1 mutant in vegetative growth and cell wall integrity but had no effects on its defects in plant infection and DON production. The mgv1 Fghog1 mutant grew faster and was more tolerant to cell wall stressors than the mgv1 mutant. Swollen compartments and cell burst were observed frequently in the mgv1 mutant but rarely in the mgv1 Fghog1 mutant when treated with fungicide fludioxonil or cell wall stressor Congo red. Conversely, the deletion of MGV1 also alleviated the hyperosmotic sensitivity of the Fghog1 mutant in vegetative growth. TGY assays indicated increased phosphorylation of FgHog1 in the mgv1 mutant, and TEY assays further revealed elevated activation of Gpmk1 in the mgv1 Fghog1 double mutant, particularly under cell wall stress conditions. Overall, our data showed that deletion of FgHOG1 partially suppressed the defects of the mgv1 mutant, possibly by affecting genes related to cell wall integrity and osmoregulation via the over-activation of Gpmk1 MAP kinase and avoiding intracellular turgor elevation

    Transgenic Potato with Resistant to PVX,PVY and PSTVd Simultaneously by amiRNA-mediated and Resistance Evaluation

    peer reviewedIn order to obtain potato plants which could be resistant to multiple viruses ( viroid) simultaneous- ly,P25,HC-Pro,and Virp1 gene targeting PVX,PVY,and PSTVd proteins were cloned,respectively. Three types of amiRNAs targeting sequences encoding the silencing suppressor P25,HC-Pro and Virp1 were designed by using Ar- abidopsis thaliana miR159a as backbone. These three amiRNA sequences were connected by Overlapping PCR. The synthetic of P25,HC-Pro and Virp1 gene was inserted into the expression vector pCAMBIA1300-221 to form p1300-221-preamiR-P25-HCPro-Virp1,and the vector was verified by PCR and restriction enzyme digestion. Pre-a- miR-P25-HCPro-Virp1 was transformed into minituber of potato cultivar Favorita by Agrobacterium tumefaciens in- fection. 15 transformed plants were obtained through regenerating,pressure screening and differentiation. PCR re- sults showed that 10 of them were detected the same size fragment ( 729 bp) as the target gene. Further qRT-PCR t e s t i n g c o n f i r m e d t h a t a m i R - P 2 5 - H C P r o - V i r p 1 g e n e w a s e x p r e s s e d i n 1 0 t r a n s f o r m e d p l a n t s ,a n d t h e r e l a t i v e e x p r e s - sion was between 7. 68 - 21. 37. Inoculated the T0 transgenic plants with the mixture virus of PVX,PVY and PSTVd by friction into the leaves of the plants at the 6 - 8 leaf stage. The plant growth was observed after 20 days and the results showed that the control plants were severely susceptible,with symptoms such as short plants and mottled leaves,while the transformed plants did not show infection symptoms,and growth normally. There was no vi- rus detected by RT-PCR either. This indicated that the transfected amiR-P25-HCPro-Virp could be stably expressed in the transformed plants,and the transformed plants were resistant to PVX,PVY and PVSTd viruses ( viroid) . Transformed plants resistant to PVX,PVY and PVSTd were obtained,and the resistance was significant,which pro- vided new genetic resources for potato virus-resistant breeding

    Toward 6G TKμ\mu Extreme Connectivity: Architecture, Key Technologies and Experiments

    Sixth-generation (6G) networks are evolving towards new features and order-of-magnitude enhancement of systematic performance metrics compared to the current 5G. In particular, the 6G networks are expected to achieve extreme connectivity performance with Tbps-scale data rate, Kbps/Hz-scale spectral efficiency, and μ\mus-scale latency. To this end, an original three-layer 6G network architecture is designed to realise uniform full-spectrum cell-free radio access and provide task-centric agile proximate support for diverse applications. The designed architecture is featured by super edge node (SEN) which integrates connectivity, computing, AI, data, etc. On this basis, a technological framework of pervasive multi-level (PML) AI is established in the centralised unit to enable task-centric near-real-time resource allocation and network automation. We then introduce a radio access network (RAN) architecture of full spectrum uniform cell-free networks, which is among the most attractive RAN candidates for 6G TKμ\mu extreme connectivity. A few most promising key technologies, i.e., cell-free massive MIMO, photonics-assisted Terahertz wireless access and spatiotemporal two-dimensional channel coding are further discussed. A testbed is implemented and extensive trials are conducted to evaluate innovative technologies and methodologies. The proposed 6G network architecture and technological framework demonstrate exciting potentials for full-service and full-scenario applications.Comment: 15 pages, 12 figure

    Journey to the east: Diverse routes and variable flowering times for wheat and barley en route to prehistoric China.

    Today, farmers in many regions of eastern Asia sow their barley grains in the spring and harvest them in the autumn of the same year (spring barley). However, when it was first domesticated in southwest Asia, barley was grown between the autumn and subsequent spring (winter barley), to complete their life cycles before the summer drought. The question of when the eastern barley shifted from the original winter habit to flexible growing schedules is of significance in terms of understanding its spread. This article investigates when barley cultivation dispersed from southwest Asia to regions of eastern Asia and how the eastern spring barley evolved in this context. We report 70 new radiocarbon measurements obtained directly from barley grains recovered from archaeological sites in eastern Eurasia. Our results indicate that the eastern dispersals of wheat and barley were distinct in both space and time. We infer that barley had been cultivated in a range of markedly contrasting environments by the second millennium BC. In this context, we consider the distribution of known haplotypes of a flowering-time gene in barley, Ppd-H1, and infer that the distributions of those haplotypes may reflect the early dispersal of barley. These patterns of dispersal resonate with the second and first millennia BC textual records documenting sowing and harvesting times for barley in central/eastern China
