Electroweak Precision Data - Global Higgs Analysis
The status of published and preliminary precision electroweak measurements as
of winter 2002/03 is presented. The new results on the mass of the W boson as
measured at LEP-2 and on atomic parity violation in Caesium are included. The
experimental results are compared with the predictions of the minimal Standard
Model and are used to constrain its parameters, including the mass of the Higgs
boson. The agreement between measurements and expectations from theory is
discussed.Comment: Invited talk presented at the Mini-Workshop "Electroweak Precision

PRICE INCENTIVES FOR COMMERCIAL FRESH TOMATOES
Hedonic price models are estimated to determine if there are incentives to supply higher quality tomatoes. Price premiums are associated with extra-large tomatoes originating from shipping points located closer to consumption points. Price differences between mature-green and vine-ripe tomatoes are not significant. Vine-ripe tomatoes are favored by consumers in the summer while mature-green tomatoes are favored the rest of the year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture should consider changing the present tomato grading system, which is based on shape and smoothness, to include a flavor indicator based on harvest maturity.Tomato quality, Hedonic prices, Demand and Price Analysis,

Biotechnology and Economic Development: The Economic Benefits of Maize Streak Virus Tolerant Maize in Kenya
For countries that could not benefit from the Green Revolution due to heterogeneous and unfavorable biophysical environments, agricultural biotechnology potentially provides a means of improving the quality and quantity of agricultural production. This paper analyses some of the major issues relating to the utilization of biotechnology in Kenya. A partial equilibrium trade model is applied to Kenya's corn market to study the potential of genetically modified maize that is tolerant to the Maize Streak Virus. The model accounts for home production and consumption; the positive results of the welfare estimation are disaggregated between consumers, large and small Kenyan corn farms.Community/Rural/Urban Development, Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies,

Jet substructure as a new Higgs search channel at the LHC
It is widely considered that, for Higgs boson searches at the Large Hadron
Collider, WH and ZH production where the Higgs boson decays to b anti-b are
poor search channels due to large backgrounds. We show that at high transverse
momenta, employing state-of-the-art jet reconstruction and decomposition
techniques, these processes can be recovered as promising search channels for
the standard model Higgs boson around 120 GeV in mass.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Squark anti-squark pair production at the LHC: the electroweak contribution
We present the complete NLO electroweak contribution of
to the production of diagonal
squark--anti-squark pairs in proton--proton collisions. Compared to the
lowest-order electroweak terms, the
NLO contributions are also significant. We discuss the LO and NLO electroweak
effects in cross sections and distributions at the LHC for the production of
squarks different from top squarks, in various supersymmetric benchmark
scenarios.Comment: 38 pages, 21 figures. Replaced with the version published in JHE
