MODERN METHODS FOR FOOD PRODUCTS PRESERVATION

    Get PDF
Bacteria, molds and yeasts are microorganisms that play an essential role in spoiling food. Food products preservation technologies are intended to reduce the intensity of the activity of pathogenic microorganisms that generate decomposition processes. From the point of view of food technologies, heat treatments (pasteurization, sterilization) are the main way of preserving food. The trend is to minimize or replace heat treatments with nonthermal, non-destructive methods, in order to preserve the freshness, nutritional and bioactive value of the food products. This paper presents the working principles and the effects of various modern methods of preservation, thermal and athermal, on food

Enlarged Galilean symmetry of anyons and the Hall effect

Enlarged planar Galilean symmetry, built of both space-time and field variables and also incorporating the ``exotic'' central extension is introduced. It is used to describe non-relativistic anyons coupled to an electromagnetic field. Our theory exhibits an anomalous velocity relation of the type used to explain the Anomalous Hall Effect. The Hall motions, characterized by a Casimir of the enlarged algebra, become mandatory for some critical value(s) of the magnetic field. The extension of our scheme yields the semiclassical effective model of the Bloch electron.Comment: LaTeX, 7 pages. No figures. One more reference adde

TYPES OF ELECTRIC MOTOR CONTROLLERS THAT CAN BE USED ON AGRICULTURAL ELECTRIC TRACTORS

    Get PDF
The development of electric propulsion systems has become a necessity for existing pollution regulations. This article presents a series of electric motor controllers that can be used on small or medium sized tractors. These controllers are easy to mount on tractors, do not require special mounting or positioning conditions, can be used with different types of electric motors and have a number of optional functions that can be activated depending on the chosen configuration. Controllers are intelligent enough to deal with the power or torque provided to the engine or change the way the engine works, switching it from engine to generator

ASPECTS REGARDING THE OBJECTIVES, PRINCIPLES AND NORMS OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE

    Get PDF
Organic farming can be defined as a production system that broadly avoids or excludes the use of synthetic compound fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators and feed additives. Organic farming systems are based on crop rotation, the use of crop residues, animal manure or off-farm organic waste. This article presents the advantages and importance of this system of agriculture, by analyzing the objectives, principles and rules of organic farming, in the context of the high needs of the population to consume organic products

Combination therapy in cholesterol reduction: focus on ezetimibe and statins

    Get PDF
Although widely used in lipid lowering therapy, HMG CoA reductase inhibitors (even when administered at high doses) are frequently insufficient to achieve guideline-recommended LDL-C goals for many patients with hypercholesterolemia in everyday clinical practice. Many patients do not achieve LDL-C goal on the initial dose of statin and the majority of these patients does not reach their goal after 6 months. As a consequence, a wide therapeutic gap exists between target LDL-C levels and those typically achieved in clinical practice. A recent and more effective therapeutic hypocholesterolemic strategy is to treat the two main sources of cholesterol simultaneously (production of cholesterol, mainly in the liver, and absorption of cholesterol in the intestine) with a complementary mechanism of action, by co-administering ezetimibe, a novel agent inhibiting cholesterol absorption, with a statin, which inhibits cholesterol production in the liver. Ezetimibe can be effectively and safely co-administered with any dose of any statin and, compared with the single inhibition of cholesterol production, afforded by statins alone, provides consistently greater reductions in LDL-C through dual inhibition of both cholesterol production and absorption. We summarize the pivotal role of both the liver and intestine in the overall balance of cholesterol in the body and describe the clinical impact and relevance of using ezetimibe either alone or co-administered with statins in controlling elevated levels of plasma LDL cholesterol

Analysis of the electrical and thermal behaviour of Li-ion batteries using 0D and 3D-CFD approaches with validation on experimental data

    Get PDF
Due to their characteristics, lithium-ion cells are the reference in the construction of a battery pack for electric vehicles (EVs). Despite this, their use is strongly affected by the operating temperature because the materials they are made of are thermally stable only in a relatively limited range around ambient temperature. Cell modelling and simulation become therefore essential in the design of the cell, of the battery pack and of its auxiliary systems to optimize performance while maintaining sufficient safety margins. In the present study, two zero-dimensional equivalent circuit models of a commercial Li-ion cell are developed and tuned in order to predict the electrical and thermal behaviour of the cell. The models are validated and compared with experimental data found in the scientific literature referring to both dynamic and static tests. This comparison shows the importance of tuning the model parameters, which are decisive for the accuracy of the simulation. Using a commercial tool dedicated to battery modelling, a three-dimensional model is then developed to investigate the electrical and thermal behaviour of the cell from a spatial point of view. The results obtained are aligned with those found in the scientific literature. With the present work, it has been possible to simulate and analyse the global behaviour of the cell (0D model) as well as its detailed behaviour (3D model) using relatively modest computational resources, thus constituting a solid base for more complex modelling such as that of a battery pack and its cooling system

Galilean symmetry in noncommutative field theory

    Get PDF
When the interaction potential is suitably reordered, the Moyal field theory admits two types of Galilean symmetries, namely the conventional mass-parameter-centrally-extended one with commuting boosts, but also the two-fold centrally extended ``exotic'' Galilean symmetry, where the commutator of the boosts yields the noncommutative parameter. In the free case, one gets an ``exotic'' two-parameter central extension of the Schroedinger group. The conformal symmetry is, however, broken by the interaction.Comment: Corrected version. EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON DETERMINATION OF DEFORMATIONS IN THE CUTTING PROCESS IN WET SANDY SOILS

    Get PDF
The active parts of tillage equipment must be checked for wear resistance, under different conditions working with the soil, so that the average life span should be determined wear resistance, to ensure timely changes of parts. Research in the field has shown that there are at least two main forces acting on the active parts: impact and friction, the action of these forces causes wear. In order to test the tillage knives in laboratory conditions, was used a stand made by INMA Bucharest. With the help of this stand, the deformations in the cutting process were determined in different working conditions: at a certain working speed and at a certain humidity of the sandy soil

CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SORTING OPERATION OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

    Get PDF
For the normal development of daily activity and maintaining health, the body needs a certain amount of energy and complete nutritional factors (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins, minerals, water). They are obtained from food, fruits and vegetables occupying a prominent place as a natural source of carbohydrates, alkalizing mineral salts, vitamins and water. Conditioning involves a set of operations aimed at bringing the products to the characteristics provided by standards, specific to a certain direction of capitalization. This article describes the operations included in the conditioning process, the role and importance of presorting and sorting fruits and vegetables, as well as equipment for these operations

Will spin-relaxation times in molecular magnets permit quantum information processing?

    Get PDF
Using X-band pulsed electron spin resonance, we report the intrinsic spin-lattice (T1T_1) and phase coherence (T2T_2) relaxation times in molecular nanomagnets for the first time. In Cr7M_7M heterometallic wheels, with MM = Ni and Mn, phase coherence relaxation is dominated by the coupling of the electron spin to protons within the molecule. In deuterated samples T2T_2 reaches 3 μ\mus at low temperatures, which is several orders of magnitude longer than the duration of spin manipulations, satisfying a prerequisite for the deployment of molecular nanomagnets in quantum information applications.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, in press at Physical Review Letter
