    Comment on "Spectroscopic Evidence for Multiple Order Parameter Components in the Heavy Fermion Superconductor CeCoIn5_5"

    Recently, Rourke et al. reported point-contact spectroscopy results on the heavy-fermion superconductor CeCoIn5_5 [1]. They obtained conductance spectra on the c-axis surfaces of CeCoIn5_5 single crystals. Their major claims are two-fold: CeCoIn5_5 has i) d-wave pairing symmetry and ii) two coexisting order parameter components.     Trans-Planckian signals from the breaking of local Lorentz invariance

    This article examines how a breakdown of a locally Lorentz invariant, point-like description of nature at tiny space-time intervals would translate into a distinctive set of signals in the primordial power spectrum generated by inflation. We examine the leading irrelevant operators that are consistent with the spatial translations and rotations of a preferred, isotropically expanding, background. A few of the resulting corrections to the primordial power spectrum do not have the usual oscillatory factor, which is sometimes taken to be characteristic of a "trans-Planckian" signal. Perhaps more interestingly, one of these leading irrelevant operators exactly reproduces a correction to the power spectrum that occurs in effective descriptions of the state of the field responsible for inflation.Comment: 11 pages, no figures, uses ReVTe

    Gapped tunneling spectra in the normal state of Pr2−x_{2-x}Cex_xCuO4_4

    We present tunneling data in the normal state of the electron doped cuprate superconductor Pr2−x_{2-x}Cex_xCuO4_4 for three different values of the doping xx. The normal state is obtained by applying a magnetic field greater than the upper critical field, Hc2H_{c2} for T<TcT < T_c. We observe an anomalous normal state gap near the Fermi level. From our analysis of the tunneling data we conclude that this is a feature of the normal state density of states. We discuss possible reasons for the formation of this gap and its implications for the nature of the charge carriers in the normal and the superconducting states of cuprate superconductors.Comment: 7 pages ReVTeX, 11 figures files included, submitted to PR

    On the Theory of Fermionic Preheating

    In inflationary cosmology, the particles constituting the Universe are created after inflation due to their interaction with moving inflaton field(s) in the process of preheating. In the fermionic sector, the leading channel is out-of equilibrium particle production in the non-perturbative regime of parametric excitation, which respects Pauli blocking but differs significantly from the perturbative expectation. We develop theory of fermionic preheating coupling to the inflaton, without and with expansion of the universe, for light and massive fermions, to calculate analytically the occupation number of created fermions, focusing on their spectra and time evolution. In the case of large resonant parameter qq we extend for rermions the method of successive parabolic scattering, earlier developed for bosonic preheating. In an expanding universe parametric excitation of fermions is stochastic. Created fermions very quickly, within tens of inflaton oscillations, fill up a sphere of radius ≃q1/4\simeq q^{1/4} in monetum space.     Experimental verification of minima in excited long-range Rydberg states of Rb_2

    Recent theoretical studies with alkali atoms A∗^{\ast} excited to high Rydberg states predicted the existence of ultra long-range molecular bound states. Such excited dimers have large electric dipole moments which, in combination with their long radiative lifetimes, make them excellent candidates for manipulation in applications. This letter reports on experimental investigations of the self-broadening of Rb principal series lines, which revealed multiple satellites in the line wings. The positions of the satellites agree quantitatively with theoretically-predicted minima in the excited long-range Rydberg states of Rb2_2.Comment: 3 figures, 5 pages in two-column forma
