Christian Themes in German Fairy Tales
This research attempts to locate and identify Christian motifs in German fairy tales based on the research of Ronald Murphy in The Owl, the Raven and the Dove (2002). We selected 12 stories from the famous book by the Brothers Grimm, Kinder und Haus Märchen, and analyzed them in order to find direct and indirect Christian values and morals. The Germanic culture is historically grounded in Christian ideology; therefore, folk tales throughout the centuries included Christian themes as a means of infusing the culture with Biblical concepts, and to serve as a conduit for teaching Christian values. This is apparent in the fairy tales that we analyzed. Our research reveals various and varied Christian and moral motifs
TREX1 is expressed by microglia in normal human brain and increases in regions affected by ischemia
BACKGROUND: Mutations in the three-prime repair exonuclease 1 (TREX1) gene have been associated with neurological diseases, including Retinal Vasculopathy with Cerebral Leukoencephalopathy (RVCL). However, the endogenous expression of TREX1 in human brain has not been studied.
METHODS: We produced a rabbit polyclonal antibody (pAb) to TREX1 to characterize TREX1 by Western blotting (WB) of cell lysates from normal controls and subjects carrying an RVCL frame-shift mutation. Dual staining was performed to determine cell types expressing TREX1 in human brain tissue. TREX1 distribution in human brain was further evaluated by immunohistochemical analyses of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded samples from normal controls and patients with RVCL and ischemic stroke.
RESULTS: After validating the specificity of our anti-TREX1 rabbit pAb, WB analysis was utilized to detect the endogenous wild-type and frame-shift mutant of TREX1 in cell lysates. Dual staining in human brain tissues from patients with RVCL and normal controls localized TREX1 to a subset of microglia and macrophages. CONCLUSIONS: TREX1 is expressed by a subset of microglia in normal human brain, often in close proximity to the microvasculature, and increases in the setting of ischemic lesions. These findings suggest a role for TREX

Materials modeling and development for use in double-exposure lithography applications
The current optical photolithography technology is approaching the physical barrier to the minimum achievable feature size. To produce smaller devices, new resolution enhancement technologies must be developed. Double-exposure lithography has shown promise as a potential pathway that is attractive because it is much cheaper than double-patterning lithography and can be deployed on existing imaging tools. However, this technology is not possible without the development of new materials with nonlinear response to exposure dose. The performance of existing materials such as reversible contrast enhancement layers (rCELs), and theoretical materials such as intermediate state two-photon (ISTP) and optical threshold layer (OTL) materials in double-exposure applications have been investigated through computer simulation. All three materials yielded process windows in double-exposure mode. OTL materials showed the largest process window (depth of focus (DOF) 0.14 µm, exposure latitude (EL) 5.1%). ISTP materials had the next-largest process window (DOF 0.12 µm, EL 3.2%), followed by the rCEL (0.11 µm, 0.58%). Double Exposure Materials: Simulation Study of Feasibility
Double patterning and double exposure techniques have been proposed as possible methods for reducing half pitch resolution below k1=0.25. Both methods have the potential to reduce the theoretical lithographic half pitch to k1=0.125. Double patterning is a process-intensive method that requires multiple coat, develop, and etch steps to achieve the low k1 imaging. Double exposure processes have been proposed that do not require multiple coat, develop, or etch steps. Potentially, double exposure processes will have a lower cost of ownership that double patterning. However, double exposure materials have not yet been proven to work experimentally. Before applying significant effort to develop double exposure materials, their feasibility can be determined using rigorous simulation techniques. The evaluation of the Scottish Borders/Food Train Eat Well Age Well implementation of the Patients Association Nutrition Checklist
Background: The Patients Association Nutrition Checklist (Checklist) is a simple tool that can be used to identify older adults who may be at risk of malnutrition at an early stage and provide simple advice and signpost to additional support. The Scottish Borders Council, in partnership with the Eat Well Age Well Charity, have been implementing the Checklist across health and social care organisations since Autumn 2021.
Aims: To see if it was possible to use the Checklist in 12 organisations that work with older adults in the community, and to understand what the impact of the Checklist is for older adults and the staff who use it.
Methods: Information regarding how the Checklist was used and the experiences of staff who work in the organisations was collected using online surveys. Organisation staff and the Checklist trainer (Eat Well Age Well) were interviewed about their experiences of using the Checklist.
Key Findings: Use of the Checklist varied across organisations, data show it was completed with 461 older adults and that 7.4% were considered at risk of malnutrition. The Checklist: was easy to use; helped with difficult conversations and referrals to additional services (dietetics, GP); and was quick to deliver, costing £4.17-£6.83 per older adult. Things that made using the Checklist more difficult included: short appointment times; older adult capacity/communication issues; and staffing levels. As a result of using the Checklist, organisation staff developed improved skills and confidence spotting and managing malnutrition and health improvements were seen in older adults.
Patient and Public Involvement (PPI): PPI representatives, using lived experience, contributed to the study design and interpretation/dissemination of results.
Conclusions: Using the Checklist could help to increase awareness of malnutrition, improve conversations and prevent older adult ill-health. Recommendations for future use include embedding Checklist use at strategic level in organisations to support intended use of the Checklist

Fluorinated Polymethacrylates as Highly Sensitive Non-chemically Amplified E-beam Resists
In an effort to improve upon the sensitivity of commercial non-chemically amplified e-beam resists, four polyacrylates functionalized with alpha-CF3 and/or CH2CF3 alkoxy substituents were studied. The alpha-CF3 substituent is known to increase backbone-scission efficiency while simultaneously eliminating acidic out-gassing and cross-linking known to occur in alpha-halogen substituted polyacrylates. Contrast curves for the polymeric alpha-CF3 acrylates, generated through e-beam exposure, showed the resists required an order of magnitude less dose than the current industry-standards, PMMA and ZEP. The fundamental sensitivity of these materials to backbone scissioning was determined via Co-60 gamma-ray irradiation. The chain scissioning, G(s), and cross-linking, G(x), values calculated from the resulting change in molecular weight demonstrated that all fluorinated resists possess higher G(s) values than either PMMA or ZEP and have no detectable G(x) values. Utilizing e-beam and EUV interference lithographies, the photospeed of PMTFMA was found to be 2.8x and 4.0x faster, respectively, than PMMA.Chemistr

Dystrophin Is a Tumor Suppressor in Human Cancers with Myogenic Programs
Many common human mesenchymal tumors, including gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), and leiomyosarcoma (LMS), feature myogenic differentiation1–3. Here we report that intragenic deletion of the dystrophin-encoding and muscular dystrophy-associated DMD gene is a frequent mechanism by which myogenic tumors progress to high-grade, lethal sarcomas. Dystrophin is expressed in nonneoplastic and benign counterparts for GIST, RMS and LMS, and the DMD deletions inactivate larger dystrophin isoforms, including 427kDa dystrophin, while preserving expression of an essential 71kDa isoform. Dystrophin inhibits myogenic sarcoma cell migration, invasion, anchorage independence, and invadopodia formation, and dystrophin inactivation was found in 96%, 100%, and 62% of metastatic GIST, embryonal RMS, and LMS, respectively. These findings validate dystrophin as a tumor suppressor and likely anti-metastatic factor, suggesting that therapies in development for muscular dystrophies may also have relevance in treatment of cancer
