Hydrogel-Based Colorimetric Assay for Multiplexed MicroRNA Detection in a Microfluidic Device
Although microRNA (miRNA) expression levels provide important information regarding disease states owing to their unique dysregulation patterns in tissues, translation of miRNA diagnostics into point-of-care (POC) settings has been limited by practical challenges. Her; we developed a hydrogel-based microfluidic platform for colorimetric profiling of miRNAs, without the use of complex external equipment for fluidics and imaging. For sensitive and reliable measurement without the risk of sequence bias, we employed a gold deposition-based signal amplification scheme and dark-field imaging, and seamlessly integrated a previously developed miRNA assay scheme into this platform. The assay demonstrated a limit of detection of 260 fM, along with multiplexing of small panels of miRNAs in healthy and cancer samples. We anticipate this versatile platform to facilitate a broad range of POC profiling of miRNAs in cancer-associated dysregulation with high-confidence by exploiting the unique features of hydrogel substrate in an on-chip format and colorimetric analysis
SNU_IDS at SemEval-2018 Task 12: Sentence Encoder with Contextualized Vectors for Argument Reasoning Comprehension
We present a novel neural architecture for the Argument Reasoning
Comprehension task of SemEval 2018. It is a simple neural network consisting of
three parts, collectively judging whether the logic built on a set of given
sentences (a claim, reason, and warrant) is plausible or not. The model
utilizes contextualized word vectors pre-trained on large machine translation
(MT) datasets as a form of transfer learning, which can help to mitigate the
lack of training data. Quantitative analysis shows that simply leveraging LSTMs
trained on MT datasets outperforms several baselines and non-transferred
models, achieving accuracies of about 70% on the development set and about 60%
on the test set.Comment: SemEval 201
Endogenous Income Distribution with Product Obsolescence
Wage inequality in U. S. and UK has increased over the past 25 years. Paradoxically, skilled labor supply has also increased in both countries. This paper develops the dynamic general equilibrium model of product innovation with product obsolescence. We develop a model to provide an explanation of inequality phenomena between skilled and unskilled labor by the channel of innovation and market structure. This paper builds on the dynamic general equilibrium model of product innovation and incorporates overhead cost of the production of intermediate goods to capture endogenous growth rate of innovation, hazard rate, product life cycle and inequality.wage inequality, skilled and unskilled labor, product innovation, general equilibrium
