Exploring Symmetry of Binary Classification Performance Metrics
Selecting the proper performance metric constitutes a key issue for most classification problems in the field of machine learning. Although the specialized literature has addressed several topics regarding these metrics, their symmetries have yet to be systematically studied. This research focuses on ten metrics based on a binary confusion matrix and their symmetric behaviour is formally defined under all types of transformations. Through simulated experiments, which cover the full range of datasets and classification results, the symmetric behaviour of these metrics is explored by exposing them to hundreds of simple or combined symmetric transformations. Cross-symmetries among the metrics and statistical symmetries are also explored. The results obtained show that, in all cases, three and only three types of symmetries arise: labelling inversion (between positive and negative classes); scoring inversion (concerning good and bad classifiers); and the combination of these two inversions. Additionally, certain metrics have been shown to be independent of the imbalance in the dataset and two cross-symmetries have been identified. The results regarding their symmetries reveal a deeper insight into the behaviour of various performance metrics and offer an indicator to properly interpret their values and a guide for their selection for certain specific applications.University of Seville (Spain) by Telefónica Chair “Intelligence in Networks
Role of SODC protein in antineoplastic drug resistance
Cells need homeostasis to survive, therefore, they use the different pathways available to obtain it. The SODC protein overexpression, which is implicated in this process, suggests that could be implicated in the process of acquisition resistance during chemotherapy.Universidad de Málaga. Identification and processing of side narratives in videogames
Proteins involved in carbon metabolism induce bleomycin resistance
S. cerevisiae acquires bleomycin resistance after a long-term exposure to this drug which causes overexpression of TPIS protein. It could be involved in the resistance process. For this reason, it could be good candidates as bleomycin chemo-resistance biomarker. Knowing of the homologous gene in humans facilitates more studies of the expression of this protein in tumors.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
Metabolism is altered in the process of drug resistance acquisition
Cells need energy to survive, therefore, they increase the different pathways available to obtain it. This suggests that the cell, due to the cytotoxicity of bleomycin, increases the routes to obtain energy. For this reason, GPM1 could be a good candidate as bleomycin chemo-resistance biomarker. Knowing of the homologous gene in humans facilitates more studies of the expression of this protein in tumors.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
Analysis of Immunotherapy in ovarian cancer
There are many Immunotherapy methods in ovarian cancer. Even the immune cells themselves can be part of the immunotherapy. But also at molecular level, the immunotherapy can be applied, like maintaining damage in DNA or inhibiting certain pathways. Nevertheless, there is still needed to understand the mechanism of immunotherapy.Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
Analysis of Immunotherapy in Triple negative breast cancer
TNBC cancer is complicated, most is about PD-L1 mechanism. Too many kinds of immunotherapy have been developed to treat TNCB. Nowadays, is complicated a fast and 100% accurate treatment for TNBC, because of cancer complications like metastasis. Nevertheless, metastasis is still being researched to prevent it and assure a better immunotherapy. Also, the immunotherapies must be improved too.Universidad de Málaga. Analysis of Immunotherapy in hepatocellular carcinoma
One reason immunotherapy is important for Hepatocellular carcinoma, it’s because there are many immune cells in that organ. Because HCC is very aggressive, immunotherapy must be applied correctly. There are a lot of immunotherapies for all cancers, nevertheless, some has been tested for specific organs or tissues, and probably in the future, this organ-specific treatments can be applied in other tumor tissues.Universidad de Málaga. Analysis of Immunotherapy in Lung cancer
There are many ways of immunotherapy for lung cancer, and that includes the use of drugs, molecular treatment, and even the combination with radiotherapy. But also, it’s important to investigate in the future the adverse effects of immunotherapy in Lung cancer to avoid breathing complications, and a way to prevent those effects.Universidad de Málaga. Context Management in Mobile Environments: a Semantic Approach
This paper presents a first draft of a context management model and architecture in the scope of mobile end-user services, paying special attention to mobile scenarios and specific mobility environments. The paper describes our notion of context and presents the process followed for developing the ontologies for representing context, providing an overview of the first version of these ontologies. Besides, we propose an architecture for managing context in mobile environments, including high-level descriptions of the components that compose it, as well as some low level details regarding the contextual interfaces involved. To show the way all these components interoperate and the advantages of the defined architecture and semantic model, we describe a use case with specific implementation detail
