What Is the Impact of Cash Transfers on Labour Supply?

    Get PDF
Since the 1990s, Latin American governments have implemented various conditional cash transfer programmes (CCTs). The objective of CCTs is to alleviate poverty in the short run and create conditions for upward social mobility in the long run through human capital investments. CCTs target families living below the poverty lines, focusing on children and school-age adolescents. (?)What Is the Impact of Cash Transfers on Labour Supply?

Creative interactions with data: using visual and metaphorical devices in repeated focus groups

    No full text
This article presents some of the emergent methods developed to fit a study of quality in inclusive research with people with learning disabilities. It addresses (i) the ways in which the methodology was a response to the need for constructive, transformative dialogue through useof repeated focus groups in a design interspersing dialogic and reflective spaces; and (ii) how stimulus materials for the focus groups involved imaginative and creative interactions with data. Particular innovations in the blending of narrative and thematic analyses and data generation and analysis processes are explored, specifically the creative use of metaphor as stimulus and the playful adaptation of I-poems from the Listening Guide approach as writing and performance. In reflecting on these methodological turns we also reflect on creativity as an interpretive lens. The paper is an invitation for further methodological dialogue and development

On a Frobenius Problem for Polynomials

We extend the famous diophantine Frobenius problem to a ring of polynomials over a field~k. Similar to the classical problem we show that the n = 2 case of the Frobenius problem for polynomials is easy to solve. In addition, we translate a few results from the Frobenius problem over ℤ to k[t] and give an algorithm to solve the Frobenius problem for polynomials over a field k of sufficiently large size

Lefschetz Properties for Higher Order Nagata Idealizations

    Get PDF
We study a generalization of Nagata idealization for level algebras. These algebras are standard graded Artinian algebras whose Macaulay dual generator is given explicity as a bigraded polynomial of bidegree (1,d)(1,d). We consider the algebra associated to polynomials of the same type of bidegree (d1,d2)(d_1,d_2). We prove that the geometry of the Nagata hypersurface of order ee is very similar to the geometry of the original hypersurface. We study the Lefschetz properties for Nagata idealizations of order ee, proving that WLP holds if d1≥d2d_1\geq d_2. We give a complete description of the associated algebra in the monomial square free case.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures. To appear in Advances in Applied Mathematic

Employment growth in Ceara: a shift-share analysis (2000-2005)

    Get PDF
Between 2000 and 2005, formal employment grew by 33.15% in Ceara (Brazil). Hence, the main objective of this paper was to analyze which municipalities and sectors contributed the most to such growth through a shift-share analysis of employment. The results indicate a considerable dispersion among municipalities in terms of job creation according to the composition of their productive structures and specific factors that yield them (or not) differential competitive advantages. More specifically, a regression indicated that this differential effect is positively correlated to the municipalities’ population density up to a point where agglomeration diseconomies actually reduce employment creation. Furthermore, municipalities with economic clusters tend to have a greater differential effect than others and this effect is smaller the further away they are located from Fortaleza, the State’s capital. Finally, considering the Fortaleza Metropolitan Area (FMA), the results show that employment grew at a slower pace in the capital if compared to almost all other neighbouring municipalities, which is due to strong agglomeration diseconomies in Fortaleza.Employment, Shift-share, agglomeration diseconomies, clusters
