Spacicoides cordanoides, sp. nov., a new dematiaceous hyphomycete from submerged wood in Australia, with a taxonomic review of the genus
Spadicoides cordanoides sp. nov. occurring on submerged wood in north Queensland, Australia is described and illustrated. It differs from all previously described Spadicoides species in having predominately obpyriform, versicolored, two celled conidia, in which the apical cell is verruculose. The current generic concept of the genus is briefly discussed and the 21 accepted species are illustrated. A key to Spadicoides species is provided.published_or_final_versio
A new species of Canalisporium from Australia
Canalisporium variabile sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on several specimens from submerged wood and decaying palm rachis in Australia. It is most similar to C. pallidurn in having pale conidia with clearly visible septa and canals, but they are two distinct species. In C. pallidurn, conidia are more stable in shape, size and septation, with mostly a single column of vertical septa. In C. vam'abile, however, conidia are more variable in morphology, with mostly two columns of vertical septa, and
the cells are more constricted. Conidia of C. pallidum are generally longer and more slender than those of C. variabile, which are generally shorter and broader. Canalispom'urn vam'abile is also compared with C. pulchrum and C. kenyense.published_or_final_versio
Janetia curviapicis, a new species, and an amended description of the genus
Janetia curviapicis sp. nov., occurring on submerged wood in Australia, is described and illustrated. It differs from the previously described Janrtia species in the curved or circinate apices of the conidia. This new species is compared and contrasted with the other 16 species described in the genus. An expanded generic concept is introduced to include species with one or more of the following characteristics: synnematal conicliomata; nionoblastic conidiogenous cells; schizolytic conidial secession; distoseptate, obclavate conidia; mycophilic habitat. X dichotomous key to the 13 accepted species of the genus is provided.published_or_final_versio
Two new species of Diplococcium from the tropics
Two new species of Diplococcium are described and illustrated. Diplococcium aquaticum sp. nov., from submerged wood in Australia, is distinct in the genus in having slender conidiophores and pyriform, uniseptate, bicolored conidia. Diplococcium dendrocalami sp. nov., from senescent culms of Dendrocalamus sp. in the Philippines, differs from other species in the genus in having robust, unbranched, attenuated conidiophores and oblong to ellipsoidal, thick-walled, 1-2-septate, large conidia.published_or_final_versio
Reflections on the genus Vanakripa, with a description of V. ellipsoidea sp. nov.
The genus Vanakripa (hyphomycetes) is reviewed based on the examination of type specimens, and V. ellipsoidea sp. nov. is described on submerged wood from Hong Kong. Vanakripa is characterized by punctiform sporodochial colonies, micronematous conidiogenous cells and pigmented conidia with vermiform separating cells. Vanakripa is compared with similar genera, and a synopsis of its morphological characters is provided.published_or_final_versio
Endosporoideus gen. nov., a mitosporic fungus on Phoenix hanceana
Endosporoideus pedicellata gen. et sp. nov. is described and illustrated from decaying petioles of Phoenix hanceana collected from grassland in Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong. The genus is unique in producing solitary, phragmosporous conidia. The conidia comprise a brown to dark brown inner-wall layer and thick, hyaline outer-wall layer and are produced holoblastically from determinate conidiogenous cells on micronematous, mononematous conidiophores. Cells of conidia may disarticulate at the septa. Representative steps in conidiogenesis of E. pedicellata are illustrated with light micrographs, and details of the conidiogenous events are interpreted schematically.published_or_final_versio
A new freshwater species of Saccardoella from Hong Kong and South Africa
Saccardoella aquatica sp. nov. occurring on wood submerged in streams in Hong Kong and South Africa is described and illustrated with differential interference micrographs. This species produces long, cylindrical asci and 3-septate ascospores surrounded by a mucilaginous sheath, and differs from other species in Saccardoella in having fusiform ascospores. A key and synopsis of Saccardoella species are provided.published_or_final_versio
Spadicoides palmicola sp.nov. on Licuala sp. from Brunei, and a note on Spadicoides heterocolorata comb.nov.
Spadicoides palmicola sp.nov. is described from a senescent leaf of Licuala sp. collected in Brunei. It differs from other Spadicoides species in having verruculose conidiophores producing verrucose, obclavate, rostrate, multieuseptate, versicoloured conidia. Spadicoides obclavata Kuthub. & Nawawi var. heterocolorata R.F. Castaneda, Guarro & Cano is considered distinct from Spadicoides obclavata, and Spadicoides heterocolorata comb.nov. is proposed.published_or_final_versio
New records and species of Canalisporium (Hyphomycetes), with a revision of the genus
Three new species of Canalisporium, namely Canalisporium exiguum Goh & K.D. Hyde, Canalisporium kenyense Goh, W.H. Ho & K.D. Hyde, and Canalisporium pallidum Goh, W.H. Ho & K.D. Hyde, are described and illustrated. New records of Canalisporium caribense, Canalisporium pulchrum, and Canalisporium elegans, are given. They are also illustrated from fresh
material and briefly discussed. Comparisons of conidial morphology of all species from different localities are made and a key to the species of the genus is provided.published_or_final_versio
Yinmingella mitriformis gen. et sp.nov., a new sporodocial hyphomycete from submerged wood in Hong Kong
Yinmingella mitriformis gen. et sp.nov. (Hyphomycetes), occurring on wood submerged in Tung Chung River on Lantau Island, Hong Kong, is described and illustrated. It is unique in producing short, true chains of holoblastic, aseptate, smooth, black, mitroform conidia from dark brown, flask-shaped conidiogenous cells on hemispherical, black stromata.published_or_final_versio
