A Review of Evidence-based Clinical Performance Evaluations in Nursing Education
The practice of Nursing requires development of higher-level cognitive skills, values, psychomotor and technological skills for care of patients across a variety of settings. Achievement of knowledge alone is not enough; professional education incorporates practice where students develop nursing competencies in order to care for patients in health settings. How does a nurse educator determine if the student has achieved the required competencies of nursing practice? This paper will discuss the results of a review of evidence based clinical performance evaluations in nursing education in order to answer this clinical question: What is the evidence to support an effective method for evaluating clinical performance of nursing students? There are multiple methods of clinical evaluation that exist including the use of an objective structured clinical examination tool, clinical performance assessment tool, observation, surveys, and semistructured interviews to name a few. The challenge presented with these methods is the issue of evaluating students in a consistent, reliable and valid manner. The use of rubrics as an evaluation tool was strongly supported in the literature as an effective method. Nursing implications regarding the use of criterion-referenced evaluation methods is discussed including the nurse educators\u27 responsibility to students and academic facilities in efforts to prepare competent nurses, the means of increasing student accountability in the clinical setting, and how communication can be enhanced among students and instructors
U. S. labor supply and demand in the long run
In this paper we model U.S. labor supply and demand in considerable detail in order to capture the enormous heterogeneity of the labor force and its evolution over the next 25 years. We represent labor supplies for a large number of demographic groups as responses to prices of leisure and consumption goods and services. The price of leisure is an after-tax wage rate, while the final prices of goods and services reflect the supply prices of the industries that produce them. By including demographic characteristics among the determinants of household preferences, we incorporate the expected demographic transition into our long-run projections of the U.S. labor market.Labor supply ; Labor market

Management of Late-Stage Ewingoid Dedifferentiated Liposarcoma of the Spermatic Cord with Emergent Complications: A Case Report
Liposarcoma (LS), a malignant tumor of adipose origin, is the most common soft tissue sarcoma (STS), and can develop within any soft tissue. It rarely occurs in the paratesticular region, and accounts for 3-7% of spermatic cord tumors. Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLS) and well-differentiated liposarcoma (WDLS) account for two of the five subtypes of LS, with dedifferentiation occurring in 20% of cases. There have been 66 cases of DDLS of the spermatic cord reported to date, but none present with a 22/22q trisomy without the fusion or rearrangement that commonly produces these aggressive tumors.
Accurate diagnosis of LS of the spermatic cord is difficult but imperative for effective treatment. Misdiagnosis leads to ineffective management and poor outcomes, as seen in this case. This is the first reported case of DDLS showing 22/22q trisomy without fusion or rearrangement, and though its clinical significance is unclear, the complications arising from this spermatic cord LS were severe with significant implications for nearby anatomical structures. As this tumorās aggressive features demonstrated the potential for requiring emergent treatment, a review of the literature surrounding management of DDLS of the spermatic cord with advanced disease at time of presentation was found to be lacking and management poorly defined. We hope that understanding malignant changes in tumors like the one presented in this case will help guide therapies currently in development that will take advantage of specific biological targets implicated in DDLS
The Impact of Racial Disparities and Outcomes on Urinary Anastomotic Leak in Radical Prostatectomy
Prostate cancer is the leading malignancy and third most common cause of cancer death among men. In the United States, racial disparities exist in prostate cancer incidence and mortality rates. According to the National Cancer Institute, African American (AA) men have a significantly increased incidence of prostate cancer compared to Caucasians or Asians. Urinary leak at the urethrovesical anastomosis has been cited as a complication of radical prostatectomy (RP), with incidence rates as high as 23%. Urinary anastomotic leak is associated with increased rates of ileus, prolonged hospitalization rates, and longer time to achieve continence. The etiology of risk factors in urinary anastomotic leak post RP is most likely multifactorial; however, the impact of racial disparities on incidence of urinary anastomotic leak has not been studied.
The objective of this study was to determine the impact of racial group on rates of urinary anastomotic leak in patients who have undergone RP for malignant neoplasm of the prostate. We predict that higher pathological staging and comorbid conditions contribute to urinary anastomotic leak in AAs. Secondary factors including postoperative complications were also examined to analyze their impact on urinary anastomotic leaks between racial groups
