Part A of the final report on the BMFT-sponsored research programme 'Conditions of stability of forest ecosystems' contains, apart from an introduction and overview, the 14 reports by the coordinators and short reports on the 54 individual projects. The interconnected project had the aim to clarify the requirements for forests to yield wood, assume a protective function and provide areas for human recreation. This objective comprises research into the causes and consequences of currently particularly pronounced instabilities in, and damage to, forests (novel forest damage). (VHE)Teil A des Abschlussberichtes zum BMFT-Forschungsvorhaben 'Stabilitaetsbedingungen von Waloekosystemen' enthaelt neben einer Einfuehrung und Uebersicht die 14 Berichte der Korrdinatoren und die Kurzfassung der 54 Einzelvorhaben. Ziel des Verbundprojektes ist es, die Voraussetzungen zu klaeren, unter denen die Waelder Holzertraege, Schutzleistungen und Erholungsfunktionen erbringen koennen. Diese Zielsetzung schliesst die Erforschung der Ursachen und Konsequenzen der gegenwaertig besonders deutlich gewordenen Instabilitaeten und Schaeden in Waeldern ('neuartige Waldschaeden') ein.
