Epithelioid Leiomyosarcoma of Greater Omentum- Case Report of a Rare Tumour

    Get PDF
A 50 year old man presented with a large, circumscribed mass in the abdomen. With ultrasonography, computed tomography, endoscopy and FNAC, preoperative diagnosis could not be made. Complete resection of the mass was performed; the tumor weighed 10.5 kg. Immuno-histochemical study confirmed the diagnosis of epithelioid leiomyosarcoma (ELMS). These are generally solid tumours commonly arising from the stomach. It is uncommon in the greater omentum

Squamous cell carcinoma of the scrotum is a tumour that is of interest for clinical and historical reasons. This is a rare case of carcinoma of scrotum invading the penis. We describe, a case of  scrotal and penile squamous cell carcinoma. An old case of balanitis xerotica obliterans for which he had undergone Johannson’s urethroplasty earlier.&nbsp

Case report: multiple gastric adenomatous polyps- a rare occurrence

    Get PDF
Multiple gastric polyps usually occur as a part of multiple polyposis syndrome of the gut. Multiple gastric polyps are rarely encountered in general surgical practice, with an incidence of <1% including those detected incidentally. Most common multiple gastric polyps are hyperplastic polyps. Multiple adenomatous gastric polyps without polyps anywhere else in gut is a very rare occurrence. Aggressive approach with total gastrectomy should be done to all cases of multiple adenomatous gastric polyps due to the high chances of developing cancer even if it localised

Fixed Functional Distal Shoe Appliance for Bilateral Loss of Deciduous Molars

    Get PDF
Pediatric dentistry aims at preserving the deciduous teeth till its normal time of exfoliation as it maintains the integrity of the dental arches. Premature loss of deciduous teeth might lead to a wide range of implications such as the mesial migration of the erupting permanent first molars as well as the supra eruptionof the opposing dentition. In such cases the intra alveolar type of space maintainer is given however such an appliance may not fulfill all the needs. So, modification of these conventional designs will be required. This paper describes a new design for distal shoe appliance in cases of bilateral loss of primary first and second molars prior to the eruption of the permanent mandibular first molars

A case of partial anonychia with a review of literature

Anonychia (absence of the nails) from birth is a rare congenital anomaly. It may occur as an isolated sign, which is very rare or be accompanied by other defects of the digits and other structures. Of these abnormalities, the most frequent are some hypoplastic nails, absence of distal phalanges etc, this is incomplete anonychia. The mode of inheritance of most of these disorders has not yet been established with certainty. Very few cases of anonychia with the above mentioned disorders have been reported but this is probably the first report of a case of anonychia along with congenital absence of umbilicus.&nbsp

A Randomized Control Trial to Assess the Efficacy of Calcium Alginate Dressing Versus Conventional Gauze Dressing on Bacterial Load in Infected Diabetic Foot Ulcer

Diabetic foot ulcers are common and estimated to affect 15% of all diabetic individual during their lifetime. Infection is one of the major cause for non-healing of the ulcer in diabetes. Objectives of present study were to measure the effect of calcium alginate dressing on bacterial load in infected diabetic foot ulcer in comparison to conventional gauze dressing.Present one year randomized controlled trial was conducted in Department of Surgery, KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Belgaum on 60 patients with infected diabetic foot ulcer during period of January 2008 to December 2008. Patients were divided into two different groups by number randomization (Group 1 Calcium alginate and Group 2 conventional gauze). Bacterial load was determined per gram of tissue before first and after third dressing in both groups. In the present study male preponderance was seen. The duration of DM was 6 to 10 years in majority of the patients. The mean bacterial load (X 105 CFU/gm tissue) before the first dressing in calcium alginate group was 513.3±122.4 while in conventional gauze group it was 516.7±117.7 and after the third dressing was 526.7±138.8 and 536.7±121.7 respectively. There was increase in bacterial load after the three dressings over the diabetic foot ulcer in both the groups. However this increase was not statistically significant (p=0.787).Present study has shown that dressing with calcium alginate is ineffective in reducing bacterial load of infected diabetic foot ulcers
