Discovery and Identification of W' Bosons at e+e- Colliders
We report on studies of the sensitivity to extra gauge bosons of the
reactions e^+ e^- -> nu nubar gamma and e gamma -> nu q + X to extract
discovery limits for W' 's. The discovery potential for a W' is, for some
models, comparable to that of the LHC. These processes may be also useful for
determining W' and Z' couplings to fermions which would complement measurements

A spectral, quasi-cylindrical and dispersion-free Particle-In-Cell algorithm
We propose a spectral Particle-In-Cell (PIC) algorithm that is based on the
combination of a Hankel transform and a Fourier transform. For physical
problems that have close-to-cylindrical symmetry, this algorithm can be much
faster than full 3D PIC algorithms. In addition, unlike standard
finite-difference PIC codes, the proposed algorithm is free of numerical
dispersion. This algorithm is benchmarked in several situations that are of
interest for laser-plasma interactions. These benchmarks show that it avoids a
number of numerical artifacts, that would otherwise affect the physics in a
standard PIC algorithm - including the zero-order numerical Cherenkov effect.Comment: 23 pages, 8 figure
Spectroscopy of B_c Mesons in the Relativized Quark Model
We calculate the spectrum of the charm-beauty mesons using the relativized
quark model. Using the wavefunctions from this model we compute the radiative
widths of excited c\bar{b} states. The hadronic transition rates between
c\bar{b} states are estimated using the Kuang-Yan approach and are combined
with the radiative widths to give estimates of the relative branching ratios.
These results are combined with production rates at the Tevatron and the LHC to
suggest promising signals for excited B_c states. Our results are compared with
other models to gauge the reliability of the predictions and point out

Production of the h_c and h_b and Implications for Quarkonium Spectroscopy
The recent observation of the h_c is an important test of QCD calculations
and provides constraints on models of quarkonium spectroscopy. In this
contribution I discuss some of these implications and describe methods to

Controlled release nanoparticulate matter delivery system
A controlled release nanoparticulate matter delivery system includes a plurality of thermoresponsive modules containing a respective nanoparticulate matter. Each thermoresponsive module is selectively operable in at least one of a heating mode that releases the nanoparticulate matter and a cooling mode that inhibits release of the nanoparticulate matter. A control module is in electrical communication with the plurality of thermoresponsive modules. The control module is configured to determine a temperature of each thermoresponsive module and to select the at least one heating mode and cooling mode based on the temperature. Spin-Orbit and Tensor Forces in Heavy-quark Light-quark Mesons: Implications of the New Ds state at 2.32 GeV
We consider the spectroscopy of heavy-quark light-quark mesons with a simple
model based on the non-relativistic reduction of vector and scalar exchange
between fermions. Four forces are induced: the spin-orbit forces on the light
and heavy quark spins, the tensor force, and a spin-spin force. If the vector
force is Coulombic, the spin-spin force is a contact interaction, and the
tensor force and spin-orbit force on the heavy quark to order are
directly proportional. As a result, just two independent parameters
characterize these perturbations. The measurement of the masses of three p-wave
states suffices to predict the mass of the fourth. This technique is applied to
the system, where the newly discovered state at 2.32 GeV provides the
third measured level, and to the system. The mixing of the two
p-wave states is reflected in their widths and provides additional constraints.
The resulting picture is at odds with previous expectations and raises new

Alcohol use in fishing communities and men's willingness to participate in an alcohol, violence and HIV risk reduction intervention: qualitative findings from Rakai, Uganda.
Alcohol use, intimate partner violence (IPV) and HIV infection are associated, but few programmes and interventions have addressed their synergistic relationship or been evaluated for effectiveness and acceptability. This is a critical gap in populations with high rates of alcohol use, HIV and IPV, such as Uganda's fishing communities. This study examined drinking norms, barriers and facilitators to engagement in a risk reduction programme, and ideas for tailoring. Results showed that alcohol use is common in fishing villages. While men and women drink, gendered notions of femininity deem alcohol largely unacceptable for women. Plastic sachets of liquor were the most common alcoholic drink. Participants did not understand the definition of 'hazardous drinking', but recognised connections between drinking, violence and sexual risk-taking. The idea of an alcohol, IPV and HIV risk reduction intervention was supported, but barriers need to be addressed, including how best to help those uninterested in reducing their drinking, addressing normalisation of drinking and how best to inform those who truly need intervention. Intervention to people living with HIV around the time of diagnosis and treatment may be warranted. Study findings highlight the potential to integrate alcohol and IPV reduction programmes into an HIV service provision
