Crises are opportunities

The paradox is that, in our view, this seemingly dark horizon holds reason for hope: certain crises could point the way to social change and this is why we remain optimistic in the long term analysis, despite being pessimistic for the near future: crises and opportunities. In effect, thanks to new technology, a form of growth with better life environmental characteristics is within our grasp. From our standpoint, however, the success of this technological leap into the future can be impaired by the concomitant difficulties in overcoming the obstacles of the social changes needed. The foregoing idea is the main message this book tries to put over and in turn: - aims at presenting a better understanding of economic crises as the direct offspring of social and institutional rigidities accumulated over the recent decades; - takes apart certain myths related to development, to industrialization, to energy problems, to technology ... insofar as many notions that are bandied about cannot sustain a thorough perusal. - and, finally, sheds new light on future possible growth mechanisms and forms of employment, the seeds of which are hidden in today's crises
