La tesi affronta l'affidamento familiare a vari livelli: giuridico, sociale e nella prassi operativa. Il focus della dissertazione è il concetto di temporaneità, aspetto saliente dell'istituto; il tentativo è quello di far emergere le criticità che tale assunto porta con sè, nonchè di mettere in evidenza la necessità di cambiamenti da apportare all'istituto stesso dell'affidamento. Si propone un nuovo approccio al concetto di "rientro", che non equivalga, necessariamente ad un riavvicinamento fisico, bensì ad una riunificazione affettiva
Real-practice thromboprophylaxis in atrial fibrillation
This retrospective observational study was based on databases of the Local Health Authority of Treviso, Italy. It evaluated the prevalence and the effectiveness of oral anticoagulation treatment (OAT) for the management of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) in everyday clinical practice. Out of 6,138 NVAF patients, only 3,024 received Vitamin K antagonist (VKA). Potential barriers decreasing the probability of being treated with VKA were female sex, older age, antiplatelet treatment and history of bleeding. In addition, VKA-treatment was not in line with current ESC and AIAC guidelines, since the patients at high or low risk of stroke were under-or over-treated, resp. Among VKAtreated patients, 73 % of subjects were not at target with anticoagulation. OAT resulted to be effective in reducing stroke risk. However, stroke events were significantly influenced also by previous stroke or transient ischemic attack (hazard ratio, HR = 2.99, p < 0.001) and by previous bleeding events (HR = 1.60, p < 0.001)
Exotic atoms at extremely high magnetic fields: the case of neutron star atmosphere
The presence of exotic states of matter in neutron stars (NSs) is currently
an open issue in physics. The appearance of muons, kaons, hyperons, and other
exotic particles in the inner regions of the NS, favored by energetic
considerations, is considered to be an effective mechanism to soften the
equation of state (EoS). In the so-called two-families scenario, the softening
of the EoS allows for NSs characterized by very small radii, which become
unstable and convert into a quark stars (QSs). In the process of conversion of
a NS into a QS material can be ablated by neutrinos from the surface of the
star. Not only neutron-rich nuclei, but also more exotic material, such as
hypernuclei or deconfined quarks, could be ejected into the atmosphere. In the
NS atmosphere, atoms like H, He, and C should exist, and attempts to model the
NS thermal emission taking into account their presence, with spectra modified
by the extreme magnetic fields, have been done. However, exotic atoms, like
muonic hydrogen or the so-called Sigmium , could
also be present during the conversion process or in its immediate aftermath. At
present, analytical expressions of the wave functions and eigenvalues for these
atoms have been calculated only for H. In this work, we extend the existing
solutions and parametrizations to the exotic atoms and
, making some predictions on possible transitions. Their
detection in the spectra of NS would provide experimental evidence for the

Improvement in ACE I/D polymorphism detection
The ACE I/D polymorphism has been reported to influence predisposition to cardiovascular disease. Conflicting results in its detection may be due to mistyping of I/D genotypes as D/D genotypes occurring in the traditional genotyping method. In order to resolve mistyping troubles and to permit a rapid and accurate analysis, we performed a stepdown PCR reaction followed by detection using Nanogen technology, and we compared these results with those obtained from traditional genotyping methods, such as conventional and confirmatory PCR. The Nanogen stepdown method showed a 100% sensitivity and 99.6% specificity, when compared with the confirmatory PCR. Our experiments provide evidence that, by using the Nanogen stepdown method, the DD mistyping was markedly decreased, thus representing a useful tool suitable for performing large-scale screening or research
Synaptic Deficits Are Rescued in the p25/Cdk5 Model of Neurodegeneration by the Reduction of β-Secretase (BACE1)
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia, and is characterized by memory loss and cognitive decline, as well as amyloid β (Aβ) accumulation, and progressive neurodegeneration. Cdk5 is a proline-directed serine/threonine kinase whose activation by the p25 protein has been implicated in a number of neurodegenerative disorders. The CK-p25 inducible mouse model exhibits progressive neuronal death, elevated Aβ, reduced synaptic plasticity, and impaired learning following p25 overexpression in forebrain neurons. Levels of Aβ, as well as the APP processing enzyme, β-secretase (BACE1), are also increased in CK-p25 mice. It is unknown what role increased Aβ plays in the cognitive and neurodegenerative phenotype of the CK-p25 mouse. In the current work, we restored Aβ levels in the CK-p25 mouse to those of wild-type mice via the partial genetic deletion of BACE1, allowing us to examine the Aβ-independent phenotype of this mouse model. We show that, in the CK-p25 mouse, normalization of Aβ levels led to a rescue of synaptic and cognitive deficits. Conversely, neuronal loss was not ameliorated. Our findings indicate that increases in p25/Cdk5 activity may mediate cognitive and synaptic impairment via an Aβ-dependent pathway in the CK-p25 mouse. These findings explore the impact of targeting Aβ production in a mouse model of neurodegeneration and cognitive impairment, and how this may translate into therapeutic approaches for sporadic AD.National Institutes of Health (U.S.) (Grant NIH R01NS051874)Ruth L.
