    THE APPLICATION OF THINK-TALK-WRITE STRATEGY TO IMPROVE THE TENTH GRADE OF SMA SANTO YOSEPH MEDAN STUDENTS’ SKILL IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT

    The aim of this study is to find whether Think – Talk – Write Strategy works effectively on improving the tenth grade students’ achievement in writing recount texts and to know the students’ responses after being taught by using Think – Talk – Write Strategy . in order to  achieve the objectives of study, a classroom action research was designed and carried out in this study. The subjects of this study were 32 students of class X- MIA2  OF SMA Santo Yoseph Medan in academic year 2018/2019. Test, observation sheet, and field notes were used as a instruments for collecting data. The results of the study showed significant improvement of the students’ skill in writing. It is proved by the students’ mean score of each test: pre-test was 57,5%, formative test was 67,22% and post-test  was 83,88% . In addition, the, the analysis result of the observation sheet and field notes showed Think – Talk – Write Strategy channge the students’ learning behavior being better than before. They were more enthusiastic during the teaching learning process in each cycle. The analysis result of questionnaire showed that Think – Talk – Write Strategy was useful to most of students to improve their learnig interest in writing recount text. Based on the results of those study instruments, it can be concluded that Think – Talk – Write Strategy as learning strategy gives the improvement to students’ skill in writing recount text. It is recommended for English teacher to apply Think – Talk – Write Strategy in teaching writing skill in order to improve students’ skill in writing expecially recount text.Â

    THE USE THINK PAIR SHARE TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT THE NINTH GRADE STUDENTS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ERA IBANG MEDAN

    This research is conducted in order to improve students’ reading comprehension in the easiest way through using think pair share of the ninth grade students of Junior High School Era Ibang Medan, and it also help the English teacher of the ninth grade students of Junior High School Era Ibang Medan to managed activities in classroom.In conducting this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of research. This research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps, they were planning, action, observation and reflecting. Each cycle was conducted in three meetings, so the researcher conducted this researcher in six meetings for one month and two weeks. The data were in the form of qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data was analyze the learning teaching process. The quantitative data was to count the students’ score in pre-test and post-test.The result of this research shows that using think pair share of the ninth grade students of Junior High School Era Ibang Medan could improve their reading skills. The students’ responses showed that they were interested in learning reading through think pair share. Morever, the students’ achievements in pre-test and post-test showed a significant improvement. The students’ average score in pre-test was 53,19%, while in the formative test in cycle I, the students’ average score is 60,03, and in the post-test cycle II, the students’ average score is 76. That means the think pair share can improve the students’ reading skill

    IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION BY USING PQ4R STRATEGY TO THE EIGHTH GRADE AT SMP NEGERI 2 PANCUR BATU

     Reading is one of the four language skills in English, they are listening, speaking, reading and writing. The students get bored in reading comprehension. Since they do not understand the text. Thus, they need some ways or strategy which could help students’s reading comprehension on narrative text. The teacher should be creative to search for interesting strategy to teach reading comprehension on narrative text. PQ4R strategy can helps the students to understand on narrative text. The objectives of this study to find out the students’ reading comprehension bu using PQ4R strategy. The subject of this study were the eight grade students of SMP 2 Negeri Pancur Batu. This research, the writer used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of research. Tests were used to gather the quantitative data. Based on the finding of this study, it showed in pre-test only 4 students (11%) who passed KKM ( the Mastery Minimum Criteria), and  post test 25 students (71%). The result of this research revealed that there was a significant improvement of the students’ achievement from the pre-test to in the post test. This improvement was shown by the comparison between the mean score of pre-test (51,2), and post test (73,82). Furthermore, the students were interested in PQ4R strategy, it can be seen from the result of observation sheet and questionnaire .Therefore, PQ4R startegy was effective strategy in helping students to improve their reading comprehension especially in narrative text

    IMPROVING THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL BY USING AUDIO VISUAL AIDS IN SMA SANTO PETRUS MEDAN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2018/2019

    Communication is very significant for human being because there is hardly any human activity without communication. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted to improve the eleventh grade students’ speaking skill by using audio visual aids in SMA Santo Petrus Medan in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. The results of the study showed significant improvement of the students’ speaking skill and responses after being taught by using audio visual aids is very good because the students felt enthusiastics and motivated. The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in pre-test is 51,97 with 8,82% of the students got score ≥ 75, in formative-test mean score is 60,70 with 14,70% of the students got score ≥ 75 and in post-test mean score is 75,35 with 44,11% of the students got score ≥ 75. Based on the results, it can be concluded that using audio visual aids as a learning a instrument gives the improvement to students’ speaking skill

    ERROR ANALYSIS ON PRONOUN MADE BY THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA KATOLIK CINTA KASIH TEBING TINGGI IN ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2020/2021

    The Research was aimed to analyze the error on pronoun made by the eleventh grade students of SMA Katolik Cinta Kasih Tebing Tinggi in Academic Year of  2020/2021. The subject of this research consists of 30 students in XI-MIPA-1. The objectives of the study were (1) To find out the types of error made by students in using pronoun. (2) To find out what causes the students made such error in using pronoun. This research used qualitative approach with descriptive research. The errors were collected, identified, and classified based on the Surface Structure Taxonomy by Dulay. It was specified by four types of errors namely omission, addition, misordering, and misformation.The result showed (1) The most common errors made by the students were misformation (52,0%) or 88 errors. The second was error in addition with the frequency (35,5%) or 60 errors. The third error was omission (11,2%) or 19 errors. The lowest frequency of error was misordering (1,1%) or 2 errors. (2) The students made such errors in using pronouns because of their less motivation of learning, lack of knowledge about grammar and English language, and minimal use of media by the teacher during teaching learning process. The teacher should create an interesting teaching, so it that can increase the students’ interest in learning English

    Reading is not only about pronouncing  written words correctly but also comprehending the text. It is not surprising the students have difficulties in reading comprehension  because they do not understand the language. Therefore the teacher must try to help the students comprehend the text. One thing the teacher can do is to find a technique to teach this reading comprehension. Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition can help the students to improve their reading comprehension and to arouse their motivation. The aim of this study is to find whether Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique works effectively on improving students’ reading comprehension and to know  what students’ responses  after being taught by using this technique. The subject of this study is the eighth grade students of SMP Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 1 Medan in the Academic Year of 2018/2019 were consist 25 students of class VIII C. This study was conducted by applying Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was performed in two cycles ( cycle I and cycle II). The instruments of collecting data  were Quantitative data (reading comprehension test) and and qualitative data (field notes,obervation sheet,questionnaire)The result of reading comprehension tests showed that the mean of the students’ score increased from pre-test (20 %), formative test (52 %), post-test (76 %). The field notes, observation sheet and questionnaire showed that the students are interested in the learning teaching process through CIRC Technique and this study run well. It was found that this technique could improve students’ reading comprehension. It is suggested that English teacher should apply this technique in teaching reading comprehension

    THE ABILITY OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS OF SMP KATOLIK TRISAKTI 1 MEDAN IN USING VERB BE

    Grammar is a description of certain organizing aspects of a written particular language. One of the grammar topic is verb BE. Verb BE is important in English Grammar, BE is the one of the elementary and earlier phases of subject verb agreement. The purpose of this research was to describe the ability of the second year students in using verb BE. This research was descriptive research. The population of this research was the second year students were take as a sample, and totals 40 students. The instrument of collecting data was a test concerning verb BE. The try out test was done in order to know the validity, reliability, item difficulty and power discrimination of test items. The result showed that 9 students (22.50%) belong to high category, 28 students (70%) to moderate category, and 3 students (7.50%) to low category. The mean score was 65.10 it was only 30% of the total students who can do the test well with 12 students who get score above 70. It means that the second year students at SMP Katolik Trisakti 1 Medan are not yet able to use the verb BE. Some students do not understand the rule of verb BE, how to apply it in sentences because there were a lot of rules and exception in verb BE. The students also had some difficulties in using verb BE. The students did not know the form of some tenses such as simple present tense, simple past tense etc. Based on the total incorrect answers made by the students in each tense was 349. The percentage students  mistakes made using verb Be in Present Tense was 28.57%, and the percentage students mistakes made using verb Be in Past Tense was 11.46%, So the most mistakes made by the second year students in using verb Be was in present tense, the percentage was 28.57%. Thus, the students are suggested to study more the lesson of verb BE and to do the assignments well. The teacher also expected to give explanation of the materials of verb BE crearl

    GRAMMATICAL ERRORS MADE BY THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMK GRAFIKA BINA MEDIA MEDAN IN WRITING ADVERTISEMENT TEXT

    This research is an attempt to find out the types of errors made by the tenth grade students of SMK Grafika Bina Media Medan based on linguistic category, morphology and syntax and the dominant errors in each category. The population of this research is the tenth grade students amounting 56 students of three classes. As many as 30 students are taken as a sample which is randomly taken 10 students from each class. The research employed the descriptive qualitative research analysis. Based on the result of the analysis, there are 117 errors found in the students’ writing advertisement text. In the morphological area, there are errors in article, possessive case, third person singular and comparative so there are 35,90% errors. Meanwhile, in syntax area the writer found noun phrase, verb phrase, noun and verb construction, word order and some transformation, there are 64,10%. in conclusion, the dominant errors made by the tenth grade students of SMK Grafika Bina Media Medan is syntax errors namedly noun phrase

    THE ANALYZING OF AMBIGUITY ON STUDENTS’ WRITING MADE BY STUDENTS IN SMK DHARMA BAKTI MEDAN

    The aims of this study were to figure out the casual factors of ambiguity found in students writing. The subject of this study was the students of Class XI-TKR of SMK Dharma Bakti Medan. The research design was in the form of descriptive qualitative research. The instrument of collecting data was the students’ sheet of English writing text. In conclusion, the most dominant ambiguity in lexical meaning found in writing text by Class XI-TKR of SMK Dharma Bakti Medan was polysemy ambiguity. There were 10 casual factors of why ambiguity found in students’ writing text based on the analysis of the structure of sentence in students’ English writing. The most reasons were: (1) the students did not give the specific details in their writing, usually they preferred the short writing, (2) there were several vocabularies which could be reasonably interpreted more than one way or reasonably interpreted  more  than  one  thing,  (3)  the  students  felt  confused  to  find  appropriate vocabularies to express the meaning. As a result, they sometimes left the sentence undone or hanged without a clear idea, due to the lack of vocabularies. The analysis of ambiguity in lexical  meaning  that  made by  students  of Class  XI-TKR  of SMK  Dharma  Bakti  Medan revealed  that  students  should  learn  semantic  as  the  main  subject  in  English  writing  to understand multiplicity of meanings

    APPLYING MURDER TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP SANTO THOMAS 1 MEDAN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2020/2021

    The aim of this study is to find whetever Murder technique works effectively on improving students’ reading comprehension and to describe the students’ responses towards the application of Murder technique in the learning teaching processes of reading comprehension. The subject of the study in the seventh grade students of SMP Santo Thomas 1 Medan in the Academic Year of 2020/2021 consisting 32 students of class VII-A. This study  was conducted by applying Classroom Action Research (henceforth CAR). The result of the test showed that the students’  mean  score in pre-test is 55,00  with 16% of students got ≥ 70, in formative test is 68,13 with 38% of students got score ≥ 70, and 83,13 in post test  with 100% of students got score ≥ 70. The qualitative data analysis showed that the students’ responses after being taught by using Murder Technique are very good. The percentage students who strongly agree is 26 (81%), agree is 27 (84%), there is no students choose strongly disagree and disagree. It is suggested that the English teachers use Murder Technique as an alternative technique in teaching reading to the students in Junior High School in order to improve their students’ reading comprehension
