popularsAmanita muscaria, a fairytale mushroom. Amanita muscaria (fly agaric) is one
of the most popular mushrooms, due to its colorful red cap with white spots, and its presence in
many fairy tales. In many cases it has been considered as the prototype of poisonous mushroom,
although it usually doesnt cause fatal poisoning. The use of this mushroom, well-known ever
since the ancient times in different cultures and regions, as entheogen or sacred fungus, in some
rituals, has always been surrounded by myths and legends. Currently, their consumption is
relegated to use as a decorative element, as an active ingredient in many homeopathic remedies,
or as a psychostimulant abuse drug. In this article, we will review current knowledge on the
biology, chemistry and toxicology related to this species, along with the distinctive characteristics
of the different species of Amanita, which cause such varied effects. We also will compile some
of the legends and myths that surround it and some of their popular uses

Quantum dynamics of thermalizing systems
We introduce a method "DMT" for approximating density operators of 1D systems
that, when combined with a standard framework for time evolution (TEBD), makes
possible simulation of the dynamics of strongly thermalizing systems to
arbitrary times. We demonstrate that the method performs well for both
near-equilibrium initial states (Gibbs states with spatially varying
temperatures) and far-from-equilibrium initial states, including quenches
across phase transitions and pure states
On non-formality of a simply-connected symplectic 8-manifold
We show an alternative construction of the first example of a
simply-connected compact symplectic non-formal 8-manifold given in
arXiv:math/0506449. We also give an alternative proof of its non-formality
using higher order Massey products.Comment: 10 pages; to appear in American Institute of Physics Conference

Structurally altered capsular polysaccharides produced by mutant bacteria
Structurally altered capsular polysaccharides are produced by mutant bacteria. These polysaccharides are isolated by selecting a wild type bacterial strain and a phage producing degradative enzymes that have substrate specificity for the capsular polysaccharides produced by the wild type bacteria. Phage-resistant mutants producing capsular polysaccharides are selected and the structurally altered capsular polysaccharide is isolated therefrom

Could Self-Consciousness Be Enhanced in Alzheimer’s Disease? An Approach from Emotional Sensorial Stimulation
[EN] Alzheimer's disease (AD) provides a valuable field of research into impairment of self-consciousness (SC), because AD patients have a reduced capacity to understand their mental world, to experience and relive previous personal events, as well as to interpret thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about themselves. Several studies observed that AD patients had an altered SC, but not a complete abolition of it. Emotions are an integral part of the construction of personal identity, therefore of Self. In general, most studies on emotion in AD patients have observed that emotion is not completely abolished and it lets them better remember autobiographical events with greater emotional charge. The positive effect of autobiographical memories rich in emotional content, evoked directly/automatically by sensorial stimuli such as familiar odors or music, could be used to reestablish/reinforce the permanence and coherence of the Self in AD. We studied the research of empirical evidence supporting the power of the sensorial cues associated with emotion, which could be capable of enhancing the SC in AD. We presented the studies about "Emotional stimulations" using odor, music, or taste cues in AD. All studies have shown to have a positive impact on SC in AD patients such as odor-evoked autobiographical memories, taste/odor-evoked autobiographical memories, emotional sensorial stimulation using musical cues, and multi-sensorial stimulations using healing gardens. We found research supporting the notion that emotional sensorial stimulations can even temporarily exalt memory, affective state, and personal identity, that is, the SC in AD. The emotional sensory stimulations could be used as a tool to activate the SC in AD and hence improve the quality of life of patients and caregivers
Emirats Àrabs i Kuwait.
coneixement actual
