Growth in the Treasure Valley in 2020
The Sixth Annual Idaho Public Policy Survey was conducted November 29-December 3, 2020, and surveyed 1,000 adults over the age of 18 who currently live in Idaho. The Treasure Valley was oversampled to survey 750 residents of Ada (66%), Canyon (27%), Gem (4%), Boise (4%), and Owyhee (1%) counties. The results here focus on this Treasure Valley sample. The sample is designed to be representative of the population of the region both geographically and demographically. This was a mixed-mode survey which contacted by phone (58%), online (32%), and via text message (10%). The goal of using multiple means to contact respondents is to increase our coverage of the population to people who may not respond to traditional phone surveys. The survey has a simple random sampling margin of error of +/- 3.6% for the Treasure Valley, and was conducted by GS Strategy Group

Assessing the Need for Organizational Change in Rural American Police Agencies
This chapter highlights an innovative approach to promoting organizational change in policing that has worked for rural agencies in the western United States: the use of organizational and community assessments. This approach, which was developed by the Western Regional Institute for Community Oriented Public Safety (WRICOPS), provides law enforcement agencies with a way to objectively assess their organizational and external environment as they prepare themselves for change from a traditional to a community policing model
Reeling in Disengaged Students: An Assessment of a Countywide Juvenile Court Attendance Program
On any given day, thousands of youths are absent from school; many are absent without a legitimate excuse and thus deemed truant. Truancy has been linked to various problem behaviors including academic failure, delinquency, and school dropout. Thus, the prevention of truancy is assumed to have beneficial effects far into the future. This study provides an overview of an innovative truancy abatement program operating in southwestern Idaho known as the Ada County Attendance Court. Qualitative and quantitative data are presented to show how the program operates, its effects, and how it differs from other truancy prevention programs nationwide
Justice Administration: Police, Courts, & Corrections Management
Justice Administration introduces you to the people, practices and policies of justice administration. The content flows logically, from basic justice administration, to police, courts and corrections, and finally, ethical, financial and technological influences. Learn by Doing and Case Study sections support the applied nature of the text, while bolstering your problem-solving abilities.
The text has a palpable real-world flavor not found in most textbooks. This is thanks to the authors’ numerous administrative and academic positions in their criminal justice careers.
The 10th Edition addresses the latest issues in the field, the impact of COVID-19, and a new chapter covering mass murders, immigration and cyber threats. New activities and case studies give you the tools to meaningfully synthesize and analyze new material.https://scholarworks.boisestate.edu/fac_books/1561/thumbnail.jp
A Collaborative Effort Toward Resolving Family Violence Against Women
Traditional attitudes and practices of noninterference toward family violence are changing. Multilevel, public-private, collaborative partnerships among the criminal justice system, the medical community, educational leaders, the religious community, human services, and public and private advocates have emerged in an effort to promote the safety and welfare of the victims of family violence and to prevent further abuse.
The collaborative approach to family violence recognizes that crime problems and their effects on victims are not solely a law enforcement matter. Through the formation of partnerships, typically within the context of community policing, a comprehensive, coproductive approach to family violence is currently viewed as a promising way to reduce the occurrence of family violence. For example, Straus (1993:29) emphasizes that complex, multiparty conflicts require the design and large-scale collaborative problem solving processes
Empathy Toward Victims of Sexual Violence: Does Gender Make a Difference?
Individuals base their perceptions about victims and perpetrators of sexual violence on multiple factors and characteristics relating to the victims, the perpetrators, and themselves. This study investigates how the use of gender influences perceptions toward victims and perpetrators and whether exposure to scenarios in which the genders of victims and perpetrators are varied influences responses toward the victims and perpetrators. This research utilizes three surveys that portray different combinations of a victim’s gender in different scenarios. The surveys are being administered to students through their classes during the Summer 2015 term at Boise State University. Different survey links are sent to different instructors to prevent students from having access to more than one survey. This study is continuing through the Fall 2015 term at Boise State. By the end of the research, the results should provide insight into whether the presentation of gender influences individuals’ perceptions toward victims and perpetrators of sexual violence
