Finite Elements Analysis of an Electrochemical Coating Process of an Irregularly Shaped Cathode with COMSOL Multiphysics(R)
The overall goal of this work is the use of COMSOL Multiphysics® in the modelling of the current density distributions for the electrodeposition of Aluminium coatings from Ionic Liquids baths. The local current distribution is strongly dependant on the conductivity, on the distribution of concentrations and on the geometry of the galvanic cell, such a calculation can only be performed by the numerical solution of the PDE’s governing the system. This work approach is to exploit computational techniques based on the well-known FEA (Finite Elements Analysis) to obtain stationary and dynamical solutions of such problem. The ability to predict the local current density on an electrode is crucial to eventually evidence portions where the deposition may be invalidated.</jats:p
Aluminium electrodeposition from ionic liquid: Effect of deposition temperature and sonication
Since their discovery, ionic liquids (ILs) have attracted a wide interest for their potential use as a medium for many chemical processes, in particular electrochemistry. As electrochemical media they allow the electrodeposition of elements that are impossible to reduce in aqueous media. We have investigated the electrodeposition of aluminium from 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium chloride ((Bmim)Cl)/AlCl3 (40/60 mol %) as concerns the effect of deposition parameters on the quality of the deposits. Thick (20 ÎĽm) aluminium coatings were electrodeposited on brass substrates at different temperatures and mixing conditions (mechanical stirring and sonication). These coatings were investigated by means of scanning electron microscope, roughness measurements, and X-ray diffraction to assess the morphology and the phase composition. Finally, electrochemical corrosion tests were carried out with the intent to correlate the deposition parameters to the anti-corrosion properties
Clinical Effects of Immuno-Oncology Therapy on Glioblastoma Patients: A Systematic Review
The most prevalent and deadly primary malignant glioma in adults is glioblastoma (GBM), which has a median survival time of about 15 months. Despite the standard of care for glioblastoma, which includes gross total resection, high-dose radiation, and temozolomide chemotherapy, this tumor is still one of the most aggressive and difficult to treat. So, it is critical to find more potent therapies that can help glioblastoma patients have better clinical outcomes. Additionally, the prognosis for recurring malignant gliomas is poor, necessitating the need for innovative therapeutics. Immunotherapy is a rather new treatment for glioblastoma and its effects are not well studied when it is combined with standard chemoradiation therapy. We conducted this study to evaluate different glioblastoma immunotherapy approaches in terms of feasibility, efficacy, and safety. We conducted a computer-assisted literature search of electronic databases for essays that are unique, involve either prospective or retrospective research, and are entirely written and published in English. We examined both observational data and randomized clinical trials. Eighteen studies met the criteria for inclusion. In conclusion, combining immunotherapy with radiochemotherapy and tumor removal is generally possible and safe, and rather effective in the prolongation of survival measures
Case Report: Pituitary metastasis as a presenting manifestation of silent gastric cardia adenocarcinoma
Introduction: Pituitary metastases are very rare in cancer patients and often originate from lung or breast tumors. They usually occur in patients with known metastatic disease, but rarely may be the first presentation of the primary tumor.Methods: We present the case of a 58 years-old-man who reported a three-month history of polyuria-polydipsia syndrome, generalized asthenia, panhypopituitarism and bitemporal hemianopsia. Brain-MRI showed a voluminous pituitary mass causing posterior sellar enlargement and compression of the surrounding structures including pituitary stalk, optic chiasm, and optic nerves.Results: The patient underwent neurosurgical removal of the mass. Histological examination revealed a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of uncertain origin. A total body CT scan showed a mass in the left kidney that was subsequently removed. Histological features were consistent with a clear cell carcinoma. However, endoscopic examination of the digestive tract revealed an ulcerating and infiltrating adenocarcinoma of the gastric cardia. Total body PET/CT scan with 18F-FDG confirmed an isolated area of accumulation in the gastric cardia, with no hyperaccumulation at other sites.Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports of pituitary metastases from gastric cardia adenocarcinoma. Our patient presented with symptoms of sellar involvement and without evidence of other body metastases. Therefore, sudden onset of diabetes insipidus and visual deterioration should lead to the suspicion of a rapidly growing pituitary mass, which may be the presenting manifestation of a primary extracranial adenocarcinoma. Histological investigation of the pituitary mass can guide the diagnostic workup, which must however be complete
Executive functions in children with specific learning disorders: Shedding light on a complex profile through teleassessment
Executive Functions (EFs) are high-order cognitive processes relevant to learning and adaptation and frequently impaired in children with specific learning disorders (SLDs). This study aimed to investigate EFs in children with SLD and explore the role of specific EF-related subprocesses, such as stimuli processing and processing speed. Fifty-seven SLD and 114 typically developing (TD) children, matched for gender and age, completed four tasks measuring response inhibition, interference control, shifting, and updating on a web-based teleassessment platform. The results show that SLD children performed lower in all EF tasks than TD children, regardless of stimulus type and condition. Mediation analyses suggested that differences between the SLD and TD groups are mediated by EF-related subprocesses, offering an interpretative model of EF deficits in children with SLD
