Size distribution of sputtered particles from Au nanoislands due to MeV self-ion bombardment
Nanoisland gold films, deposited by vacuum evaporation of gold onto Si(100)
substrates, were irradiated with 1.5 MeV Au ions up to a fluence of
ions cm and at incidence angles up to
with respect to the surface normal. The sputtered particles were collected on
carbon coated grids (catcher grid) during ion irradiation and were analyzed
with transmission electron microscopy and Rutherford backscattering
spectrometry. The average sputtered particle size and the areal coverage are
determined from transmission electron microscopy measurements, whereas the
amount of gold on the substrate is found by Rutherford backscattering
spectrometry. The size distributions of larger particles (number of
atoms/particle, 1,000) show an inverse power-law with an exponent of
-1 in broad agreement with a molecular dynamics simulation of ion impact

Entangled Quantum State Discrimination using Pseudo-Hermitian System
We demonstrate how to discriminate two non-orthogonal, entangled quantum
state which are slightly different from each other by using pseudo-Hermitian
system. The positive definite metric operator which makes the pseudo-Hermitian
systems fully consistent quantum theory is used for such a state
discrimination. We further show that non-orthogonal states can evolve through a
suitably constructed pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian to orthogonal states. Such
evolution ceases at exceptional points of the pseudo-Hermitian system.Comment: Latex, 9 pages, 1 figur
Fock space exploration by angle resolved transmission through quantum diffraction grating of cold atoms in an optical lattice
Light transmission or diffraction from different quantum phases of cold atoms
in an optical lattice has recently come up as a useful tool to probe such ultra
cold atomic systems. The periodic nature of the optical lattice potential
closely resembles the structure of a diffraction grating in real space, but
loaded with a strongly correlated quantum many body state which interacts with
the incident electromagnetic wave, a feature that controls the nature of the
light transmission or dispersion through such quantum medium. In this paper we
show that as one varies the relative angle between the cavity mode and the
optical lattice, the peak of the transmission spectrum through such cavity also
changes reflecting the statistical distribution of the atoms in the illuminated
sites. Consequently the angle resolved transmission spectrum of such quantum
diffraction grating can provide a plethora of information about the Fock space
structure of the many body quantum state of ultra cold atoms in such an optical

A critical analysis of Popper's experiment
An experiment which could decide against the Copenhagen interpretation of
quantum mechanics has been proposed by K. Popper and, subsequently, it has been
criticized by M.J. Collett and R. Loudon. Here we show that both the above
mentioned arguments are not correct because they are based on a misuse of basic

Setaria cervi: enzymes of glycolysis and PEP-succinate pathway
Setaria cervi, the filarial parasite inhabiting the Indian water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis Linn.) contained almost all the enzymes involved in glycogen degradation. Significant activities of glycogen phosphorylase, glucokinase, phosphoglucomutase, phosphoglucose isomerase, phosphofructokinase, FDP-aldolase, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, phosphopyruvate hydratase, pyruvate kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase were detected in cell-free extracts of whole worms. The presence of PEP-carboxykinase, malate dehydrogenase, fumarase and fumarate reductase revealed the functioning of the PEP-succinate pathway in addition to phosphorylating glycolysis and pentose phosphate pathway in the parasite. Excepting fumarate reductase all other enzymes were localized in the particulate-free cytosol fraction, although small amounts of glycogen phosphorylase, aldolase and lactate dehydrogenase were also detected in the mitochondrial fraction
Does the group leader matter? The impact of monitoring activities and social ties of group leaders on the repayment performance of groupbased lending Eritrea
This paper analyzes whether the effects of monitoring and social ties of the group leader and other group members on repayment performance of groups differ, using data from an extensive questionnaire held in Eritrea among participants of 102 groups. We hypothesize that the monitoring activities and social ties of the group leader have a stronger positive impact on the repayment performance of groups. The results show that social ties of the group leader do have a positive effect on repayment performance of groups, whereas this is not true for social ties of other group members. We do not find evidence for the hypothesis that monitoring activities of the group leader have a stronger positive impact on group repayment performance. All variables measuring monitoring activities, either of the group leader or the other group members, are found to be statistically insignificant.
Unified theory for Goos-H\"{a}nchen and Imbert-Fedorov effects
A unified theory is advanced to describe both the lateral Goos-H\"{a}nchen
(GH) effect and the transverse Imbert-Fedorov (IF) effect, through representing
the vector angular spectrum of a 3-dimensional light beam in terms of a 2-form
angular spectrum consisting of its 2 orthogonal polarized components. From this
theory, the quantization characteristics of the GH and IF displacements are
obtained, and the Artmann formula for the GH displacement is derived. It is
found that the eigenstates of the GH displacement are the 2 orthogonal linear
polarizations in this 2-form representation, and the eigenstates of the IF
displacement are the 2 orthogonal circular polarizations. The theoretical
predictions are found to be in agreement with recent experimental results.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figure
