In Quest of the Best Theoretical Description of Excess Molar Functions of Binary Mixtures of Alcohols
An attempt to describe excess molar functions of alkane + alcohol and alcohol + alcohol binary mixtures was made using the theoretical approach constructed on the basis of S-ERAS model and the chemical theory proposed by Campbell. The results obtained seem to be promising, however in order to complete the work, the procedure of determination of fitting parameters as well as relative magnitude of physical and chemical contributions to regarded excess molar quantities must be established
Improvement of the polarized neutron interferometer setup demonstrating violation of a Bell-like inequality
AbstractFor precise measurements with polarised neutrons high efficient spin-manipulation is required. We developed several neutron optical elements suitable for a new sophisticated setup, i.e., DC spin-turners and Larmor-accelerators which diminish thermal disturbances and depolarisation considerably. The gain in performance is exploited demonstrating violation of a Bell-like inequality for a spin-path entangled single-neutron state. The obtained value of S=2.365(13), which is much higher than previous measurements by neutron interferometry, is 28σ above the limit of S=2 predicted by contextual hidden variable theories. The new setup is more flexible referring to state preparation and analysis, therefore new, more precise measurements can be carried out
Emission Spectra of Fallback Disks Around Young Neutron Stars
The nature of the energy source powering anomalous X-ray pulsars is
uncertain. Proposed scenarios involve either an ultramagnetized neutron star,
or accretion onto a neutron star. We consider the accretion model proposed
recently by Chatterjee, Hernquist & Narayan, in which a disk is fed by fallback
material following a supernova. We compute the optical, infrared, and
submillimeter emission expected from such a disk, including both viscous
dissipation and reradiation of X-ray flux impinging on the disk from the
pulsar. We find that it is possible with current instruments to put serious
constraints on this and on other accretion models of AXPs. Fallback disks could
also be found around isolated radio pulsars and we compute the corresponding
spectra. We show that the excess emission in the R and I bands observed for the
pulsar PSR 0656+14 is broadly consistent with emission from a disk.Comment: 12 pages, 1 table, 4 figures, submitted to Ap
