Osteopoikilosis: Pain as a Presenting Symptom in Three Family Members
Osteopoikilosis is a rare asymptomatic sclerosing bony dysplasia of benign origin. It is usually found incidentally on radiological examinations. Familial occurrence indicates a genetic milieu with autosomal dominant pattern. Here, we present a case report of a young woman suffering from pelvic pain due to osteopoikilosis (OPK). The same disorder was later found in her son and daughter
Multimodal Aerial Locomotion:An Approach to Active Tool Handling
The research focus in aerial robotics is shifting from contactless inspection toward interaction and manipulation, with the number of potential applications rapidly increasing [1]. Eventually, aerial manipulators, i.e., unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with manipulators, will likely take on hazardous maintenance tasks now performed by humans. For this to happen, aerial manipulators must be able to perform all the different operations required in these maintenance routines
High pressure phases in highly piezoelectric Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3
Two novel room-temperature phase transitions are observed, via synchrotron
x-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy, in the Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 alloy under
hydrostatic pressures up to 16 GPa. A monoclinic (M)-to-rhombohedral (R1) phase
transition takes place around 2-3 GPa, while this R1 phase transforms into
another rhombohedral phase, R2, at about 6-7 GPa. First-principles calculations
assign the R3m and R3c symmetry to R1 and R2, respectively, and reveal that R2
acts as a pressure-induced structural bridge between the polar R3m and a
predicted antiferrodistortive R-3c phase.Comment: REVTeX, 4 pages with 3 figures embedded. Figs 1 and 3 in colo
Uptake of gases in bundles of carbon nanotubes
Model calculations are presented which predict whether or not an arbitrary
gas experiences significant absorption within carbon nanotubes and/or bundles
of nanotubes. The potentials used in these calculations assume a conventional
form, based on a sum of two-body interactions with individual carbon atoms; the
latter employ energy and distance parameters which are derived from empirical
combining rules. The results confirm intuitive expectation that small atoms and
molecules are absorbed within both the interstitial channels and the tubes,
while large atoms and molecules are absorbed almost exclusively within the
tubes.Comment: 9 pages, 12 figures, submitted to PRB Newer version (8MAR2K). There

Extracting Space Situational Awareness Events from News Text
Space situational awareness typically makes use of physical measurements from radar, telescopes, and other assets to monitor satellites and other spacecraft for operational, navigational, and defense purposes. In this work we explore using textual input for the space situational awareness task. We construct a corpus of 48.5k news articles spanning all known active satellites between 2009 and 2020. Using a dependency-rule-based extraction system designed to target three high-impact events - spacecraft launches, failures, and decommissionings, we identify 1,787 space-event sentences that are then annotated by humans with 15.9k labels for event slots. We empirically demonstrate a state-of-the-art neural extraction system achieves an overall F1 between 53 and 91 per slot for event extraction in this low-resource, high-impact domain. © European Language Resources Association (ELRA), licensed under CC-BY-NC-4.0.Open access journalThis item from the UA Faculty Publications collection is made available by the University of Arizona with support from the University of Arizona Libraries. Observation of hard scattering in photoproduction events with a large rapidity gap at HERA
Events with a large rapidity gap and total transverse energy greater than 5
GeV have been observed in quasi-real photoproduction at HERA with the ZEUS
detector. The distribution of these events as a function of the
centre of mass energy is consistent with diffractive scattering. For total
transverse energies above 12 GeV, the hadronic final states show predominantly
a two-jet structure with each jet having a transverse energy greater than 4
GeV. For the two-jet events, little energy flow is found outside the jets. This
observation is consistent with the hard scattering of a quasi-real photon with
a colourless object in the proton.Comment: 19 pages, latex, 4 figures appended as uuencoded fil
