In this article, the dynamic behavior of inclined damped rectangular Mindlin plate under the influence of moving load along the mid-plate on the plate surface is considered. A numerical method is used to solve the nondimensional form of the resulting coupled partial differential equations. The desired solutions are obtained with the aid of computer program developed in conjunction with MATLAB. It is observed that the response amplitude of the plate is affected significantly by the foundation moduli. Also, the effects of the shear deformation, rotatory inertia, damping and angle of inclination of the plate, to the horizontal, are noticeable

Effective Communication: A Tool for Improvement of Secondary School Management

Communication remains a unique instrument that integrates management functions in an organization. This explains why communication is inevitable and indispensable in the school system for effective management. This paper examined how communication aids managers of secondary schools in carrying out their duties effectively. Meaning and avenues of communication as well as communication flow were discussed. Road blocks to communication and active listening as a means of promoting a closer, more meaningful relationship between the staff and students towards school improvement were considered. It was concluded that communication is an important ingredient and vital instrument in any given organization and a good school principal should bear in mind that the success of the school is determined by his effective management of the school. It was also recommended, among others, that the channel of communication needs to be modern, effective and as personal as possible if management of large organizations such as the school is to maintain close ties with teachers and encourage maximum performance. In this work, the variational iteration method (VIM) is used to calculate the natural frequencies of a cantilever prismatic beam especially for the higher modes of vibration. The solutions yielded by VIM are validated by comparing with the natural frequencies of the said beam for lower modes earlier obtained using analytical method and the differential transform metho

Recent trends in the use of electrical neuromodulation in Parkinson's disease

    Get PDF
Purpose of Review: This review aims to survey recent trends in electrical forms of neuromodulation, with a specific application to Parkinson’s disease (PD). Emerging trends are identified, highlighting synergies in state-of-the-art neuromodulation strategies, with directions for future improvements in stimulation efficacy suggested. Recent Findings: Deep brain stimulation remains the most common and effective form of electrical stimulation for the treatment of PD. Evidence suggests that transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) most likely impacts the motor symptoms of the disease, with the most prominent results relating to rehabilitation. However, utility is limited due to its weak effects and high variability, with medication state a key confound for efficacy level. Recent innovations in transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) offer new areas for investigation. Summary: Our understanding of the mechanistic foundations of electrical current stimulation is advancing and as it does so, trends emerge which steer future clinical trials towards greater efficacy
