Item-Level RFID in the Retail Supply Chain
Analyzing the proliferation of item-level RFID, recent studies have identified the cost sharing of the technology as a gating issue. Various qualitative studies have predicted that conflict will arise, in particular in decentralized supply chains, from the fact that the benefits and the costs resulting from item-level RFID are not symmetrically distributed among supply chain partners. To contribute to a better understanding of this situation, we consider a supply chain with one manufacturer and one retailer. Within the context of this retail supply chain, we present analytic models of the benefits of item-level RFID to both supply chain partners. We examine both the case of a dominant manufacturer as well as the case of a dominant retailer, and we analyze the results of an introduction of item-level RFID to such a supply chain depending on these market power characteristics. Under each scenario, we show how the cost of item-level RFID should be allocated among supply chain partners such that supply chain profit is optimized

Managing Perishables with Time and temperature History
We address the use and value of time and temperature information to manage perishables in the contextof a retailer that sells a random lifetime product subject to stochastic demand and lost sales. The productâs lifetime is largely determined by the temperature history and the flow time through the supply chain. We compare the case in which information on flow time and temperature history is available and used for inventory management to a base case in which such information is not available. We formulate the two cases as Markov Decision Processes and evaluate the value of information through an extensive simulation using representative, real world supply chain parameters

Nucleus-nucleus Bremsstrahlung from scattering angle selected Cl-Sn collisions
Continuum X rays above the K lines of Sn were measured at 90 and 0/sup 0/ angle relative to the incident beam direction in coincidence with C1 projectiles scattered at very large laboratory angles between 8 and 164/sup 0/. By varying the isotope mass of the projectile ions (/sup 35/Cl and /sup 37/Cl) and of the target atoms (/sup 112/Sn and /sup 118/Sn) the radiation at scattering angles >10/sup 0/ could be clearly identified as Bremsstrahlung from the elementary scattering process of the two nuclei. The intensity of the radiation emitted at 0 and 90/sup 0/ relative to the beam direction can be reasonably well described by a quantum mechanical calculation of nucleus-nucleus Bremsstrahlung which includes the interference between dipole and quadrupole radiation amplitude. 10 refs., 4 figs., 1 tab
