    One-Loop Amplitudes Of Gluons In SQCD

    One-loop amplitudes of gluons in supersymmetric Yang-Mills are four-dimensional cut-constructible. This means that they can be determined from their unitarity cuts. We present a new systematic procedure to explicitly carry out any finite unitarity cut integral. The procedure naturally separates the contributions from bubble, triangle and box scalar integrals. This technique allows the systematic calculation of N=1 amplitudes of gluons.     Associated production of J/ψJ/\psi and a γ\gamma has recently been proposed as clean probe of the gluon distribution. The same mechanism can be used to probe the polarized gluon content of the proton in polarized proton-proton collisions.     QCD Corrections to Toponium Production at Hadron Colliders

    Toponium production at future hadron colliders is investigated. Perturbative QCD corrections to the production cross section for gluon fusion are calculated as well as the contributions from gluon-quark and quark-antiquark collisions to the total cross section. The dependence on the renormalization and factorization scales and on the choice of the parton distribution functions is explored. QCD corrections to the branching ratio of ηt\eta_{t} into γγ\gamma\gamma are included and the two-loop QCD potential is used to predict the wave function at the origin. The branching ratio of ηt\eta_{t} into γZ\gamma Z, ZZZZ, HZHZ and WWWW is compared with the γγ\gamma\gamma channel.Comment: 16 pages (latex) 9 figures (postscript) available upon request, TTP92-3

    J/\psi production through resolved photon processes at e+ e- colliders

    We consider J/psi photoproduction in e+ e- as well as linear photon colliders. We find that the process is dominated by the resolved photon channel. Both the once-resolved and twice-resolved cross-sections are sensitive to (different combinations of) the colour octet matrix elements. Hence, this may be a good testing ground for colour octet contributions in NRQCD. On the other hand, the once-resolved J/psi production cross-section, particularly in a linear photon collider, is sensitive to the gluon content of the photon. Hence these cross-sections can be used to determine the parton distribution functions, especially the gluon distribution, in a photon, if the colour octet matrix elements are known.Comment: Added a figure on parametrisation dependence of photonic parton densities and some reference

    Wide-angle elastic scattering and color randomization

    Baryon-baryon elastic scattering is considered in the independent scattering (Landshoff) mechanism. It is suggested that for scattering at moderate energies, direct and interchange quark channels contribute with equal color coefficients because the quark color is randomized by soft gluon exchange during the hadronization stage. With this assumption, it is shown that the ratio of cross sections Rpp/ppR_{\overline{p} p/ p p} at CM angle θ=900\theta = 90^0 decreases from a high energy value of R_{\pbar p / pp} \approx 1/2.7, down to R_{\pbar p / pp} \approx 1/28, compatible with experimental data at moderate energies. This sizable fall in the ratio seems to be characteristic of the Landshoff mechanism, in which changes at the quark level have a strong effect precisely because the hadronic process occurs via multiple quark scatterings.     Fragmentation production of doubly heavy baryons

    Baryons with a single heavy quark are being studied experimentally at present. Baryons with two units of heavy flavor will be abundantly produced not only at future colliders, but also at existing facilities. In this paper we study the production via heavy quark fragmentation of baryons containing two heavy quarks at the Tevatron, the LHC, HERA, and the NLC. The production rate is woefully small at HERA and at the NLC, but significant at pppp and ppˉp\bar{p} machines.     Hadroproduction and Polarization of Charmonium

    In the limit of heavy quark mass, the production cross section and polarization of quarkonia can be calculated in perturbative QCD. We study the pp_\perp-averaged production of charmonium states in πN\pi N collisions at fixed target energies. The data on the relative production rates of \jp and χJ\chi_J is found to disagree with leading twist QCD. The polarization of the \jp indicates that the discrepancy is not due to poorly known parton distributions nor to the size of higher order effects (KK-factors). Rather, the disagreement suggests important higher twist corrections, as has been surmised earlier from the nuclear target AA-dependence of the production cross section.Comment: 19 page

    Evidence for Colour-Octet Mechanism from CERN LEP2 gamma gamma -> J/psi + X Data

    We present theoretical predictions for the transverse-momentum distribution of J/psi mesons promptly produced in gamma gamma collisions within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics, including the contributions from both direct and resolved photons, and we perform a conservative error analysis. The fraction of J/psi mesons from decays of bottom-flavoured hadrons is estimated to be negligibly small.
