Infinitely many symmetries and conservation laws for quad-graph equations via the Gardner method

The application of the Gardner method for generation of conservation laws to all the ABS equations is considered. It is shown that all the necessary information for the application of the Gardner method, namely B\"acklund transformations and initial conservation laws, follow from the multidimensional consistency of ABS equations. We also apply the Gardner method to an asymmetric equation which is not included in the ABS classification. An analog of the Gardner method for generation of symmetries is developed and applied to discrete KdV. It can also be applied to all the other ABS equations

Professor Howard Gardner\u27s superb book Leading Minds is a study of leadership that, while prominent in the discipline of education, has received relatively little attention in the legal literature. Leading Minds thoughtfully argues that effective story-telling is critical to effective leadership. In this essay, the author explores in a very preliminary way the relationship between Gardner\u27s thesis and what deans do or should do in order to lead their law schools and, more broadly, the different constituencies they represent. In his group of 11 leaders, Gardner includes an academic leader--Robert Maynard Hutchins, who was dean of Yale Law School and then president of the University of Chicago. Gardner posits that all leaders share a common trait: the ability to construct and convey a powerful narrative. In setting forth the basic thesis of his book, Gardner writes, [A] key--perhaps the key--to [successful] leadership ... is the effective communication of a story

A Man of Mystery: An Introduction to Mr. Clark Gardner

Clark Alving Gardner was born on June 20, 1839, to Peleg and Julia Gardner in Rodman, New York, a town in Jefferson County. He was the oldest of five children. On July 31, 1862, at the age of twenty-three years, Gardner enlisted in the Black River Artillery, and was called to service on September 11 of the same year. The Black River Artillery originated from Sackett’s Harbor, New York, located off the Black River Bay in Jefferson County. The 4th, 5th, and 7th Battalion units of the Black River Artillery were consolidated to form the 10th New York Heavy Artillery regiment on December 31, 1862, shortly after Gardner had joined and one day before President Abraham Lincoln issued his Emancipation Proclamation. The magician and historiam Max Maven poignantly eulogized Martin Gardner in his article In Memoriam in the July 2010 issue of GENII magazine. Commenting on the diverse interests of Gardner in non-fiction, puzzles, recreational mathematics, philosophy, games, skepticism, word play and magic, Maven noted: So far as is known, the final Gardner publication during his lifetime was a magic trick that he contributed to the May 2010 issue of Word Ways, a quarterly journal with a small but fervent readership. I will mention, without humility, that the trick was based on one of mine -- which in turn was based on one of Martin\u27s

Martin Gardner\u27s 300th article for Scientific American appeared in their August, 1998 issue (Cover: New Thinking about Back Pain). It\u27s title A Quarter-Century of Recreational Mathematics, highlights Gardner\u27s 297 Mathematical Games columns and his 1956 article on Hexaflexagons (he does not mention the 1952 article on Logic -- see Collector\u27s Corner -- Round 4)
