This study analyzes the relationship between supervisors’ leadership styles and subordinates’ experience of burnout. We tested relationships between transformational, transactional and non leadership styles and facets of burnout (i.e., emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment), using the Bass and Avolio and Maslach Models, while controlling for subordinates’ demographics and hierarchical level. We applied the MLQ and MBI questionnaires to a sample of 102 employees in a Mexican Public Hospital to Doctors and Nurses. Our Structural Equations Models determined that inverse significant correlations were found between the different leadership subscales and burnout, excepting with those of the Laissez Faire, being positive. The theoretical and empirical findings of previous studies of the Model of Bass and Avolio, as well as of the Model of Maslach were reaffirmed; the subscale of depersonalization was eliminated. The reliability coefficients Alpha of Cronbach were higher than, 70 in all the variables.

Xanthinuria: a rare cause of urolithiasis in the cat

    Get PDF
Xanthinuria is a very rare disease in cats. Its etiology may have a genetic origin or may be due to an iatrogenic xan- thine-dehydrogenase inhibition that nally results in urolithiasis. The present work reports two cases of xanthine uro- lithiasis in European Shorthair unrelated male and female cats. Both uroliths were analyzed by stereoscopic microsco- py, infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Besides the report of these two clinical cases, a detailed pathophysiologic review and some updated recommendations for diagnosis and treatment for this condition were done.

Maritime Spatial Planning INSPIRE data model

    Get PDF
Poster para CongresoThe Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) INSPIRE data model concept has been developing from 2014, applying Infrastructure for spatial information in Europe Directive 2007/2/EC (INSPIRE) data management concepts for marine planning, through the Marine Pilot project (EC Joint Research Centre 2014-2016) and continuing with the PLASMAR project (INTERREG–V 2017-2020). The results and findings delivered have been published in the paper “Maritime spatial planning supported by infrastructure for spatial information in Europe (INSPIRE)” (Abramic et al., 2018). Currently, there are difficulties in harmonising products, visions, maps and frameworks of maritime spatial plans delivered by countries sharing the same marine (sub)region. This is mainly due to the fact that maritime plans do not use a common symbology and data structure to describe maritime activities. A solution for this issue is to apply on a marine spatial plans, INSPIRE standards for data sets, layers and portrayals. The MarSP project was a perfect opportunity to finalise conceptual data model development and, what is more important, to test results applying it on the real use cases, developed in the Macaronesia (Azores, Madeira, Canaries) MSP process. Initially, the INSPIRE data model for terrestrial planning (Planned Land Use, Figure 1) was tested to see if it could be applied for MSP. Tests pointed out that the terrestrial data model is robust, and can map MSP’s, but it tends to lose detail and specific information on marine uses. To be applied for MSP, the Planned Land Use data model needs to be adapted for planning of the maritime activities in the marine space. Conceptual model was analyzed, adapted, applying data modeling techniques, adjusting for MSP requirements: 1. Developed conceptual MSP data model, extending Planned Land use, using Unified Model Language (Figure 2); 2. Extending spatial scope of the data model - from two-dimensional land planning to the three dimensions planning. Extended structure includes maritime activities within the sea surface, water column, seabed and subsoil, when land model consists mainly of land surface planning; 3. Developed specific maritime uses classification (including register), extending Hierarchical INSPIRE Land Use classification (HILUCS); 4. Developed MSP data model templates, using simplified and feature complex spatial data architectures. Different type of codification templates, for advanced, standard and rookie GIS users (gml, GeoPackage, Shapfile, available at Canaries MSP platform); 5. Styled Layer Descriptor (color & simbology layout) for MSP, based on International Hydrographic Organization standards. 6. Data specification document v1.0 for Maritime Spatial Planning INSPIRE data model MarSP 2nd capacity building workshop was a great opportunity to test MSP data model results. Participants were trained on how to apply MSP data model on selected use case (Madeira MSP draft), during the “hands on” session, discussing potential issues and technical solutions.MarS

Larvicidal effect was evaluated using acacia cochliacantha leafThe aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro lethal effect of a hydroalcoholic extract (HAE) from Acacia cochliacantha leaf against three gastrointestinal nematodes species (Haemonchus contortus, H. placei and Cooperiapunctata) of domestic ruminants. The HAE was assessed using five concentrations: 100, 125, 175, 150 and 200 mg/ml; 0.5% Ivermectin was used as a positive control and distilled water, as negative control. The data were normalized using the square root and analysed with a completely randomized design through ANOVA analysis using the general linealmodel (GLM) of the SAS program. The HAE tannin conten was determined through spectrophotometry (UV-visible) and the other major phenols, were identified by chromatographic processes. The results showed an in vitro larvicidal activity of the HAE against the three assessed nematode species with all assessed concentrations. A clear HAE increased concentration dependence effect was observed. The highest activity of the HAE was obtained at the highest concentration (close to 100%, P < 0.05). This result was similar to the one obtained with Ivermectin. On the other hand, the chemical analysis of HAE showed the presence of tannins, caffeoyls and coumaroyl derivates and quercetin as the main compounds. The results suggest that the HAE from this plant species pos- sess in vitro anthelmintic properties. The identified com- pounds in this study would good candidates for further in vivo researches. This study received financial support from CONACYT-Mexico (Project number 251244), INIFAP (Project number 9454133183, through the Researcher Retaining Program)

Generating Diverse Agricultural Data for Vision-Based Farming Applications

We present a specialized procedural model for generating synthetic agricultural scenes, focusing on soybean crops, along with various weeds. This model is capable of simulating distinct growth stages of these plants, diverse soil conditions, and randomized field arrangements under varying lighting conditions. The integration of real-world textures and environmental factors into the procedural generation process enhances the photorealism and applicability of the synthetic data. Our dataset includes 12,000 images with semantic labels, offering a comprehensive resource for computer vision tasks in precision agriculture, such as semantic segmentation for autonomous weed control. We validate our model's effectiveness by comparing the synthetic data against real agricultural images, demonstrating its potential to significantly augment training data for machine learning models in agriculture. This approach not only provides a cost-effective solution for generating high-quality, diverse data but also addresses specific needs in agricultural vision tasks that are not fully covered by general-purpose models.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures, 3 table

The stirred tanks are used for a variety of industrial processes, so it is important to know the behavior of the flow that is inside of it. In the present work, the velocity field was obtained in the are anear the impeller, because in this zone the mechanical energy is transferred and converted into kinetic energy, which manifests itself as an increase in the velocity of the flow. For this purpose, the particle image velocimetry technique was used, to obtain the flow variation for different planes, it allows to see the behavior of the axial, radial and the magnitude of the velocity because of the movement of the impeller

Lung immune signatures define two groups of end-stage IPF patients

BackgroundThe role of the immune system in the pathobiology of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is controversial.MethodsTo investigate it, we calculated immune signatures with Gene Set Variation Analysis (GSVA) and applied them to the lung transcriptome followed by unbiased cluster analysis of GSVA immune-enrichment scores, in 109 IPF patients from the Lung Tissue Research Consortium (LTRC). Results were validated experimentally using cell-based methods (flow cytometry) in lung tissue of IPF patients from the University of Pittsburgh (n = 26). Finally, differential gene expression and hypergeometric test were used to explore non-immune differences between clusters.ResultsWe identified two clusters (C#1 and C#2) of IPF patients of similar size in the LTRC dataset. C#1 included 58 patients (53%) with enrichment in GSVA immune signatures, particularly cytotoxic and memory T cells signatures, whereas C#2 included 51 patients (47%) with an overall lower expression of GSVA immune signatures (results were validated by flow cytometry with similar unbiased clustering generation). Differential gene expression between clusters identified differences in cilium, epithelial and secretory cell genes, all of them showing an inverse correlation with the immune response signatures. Notably, both clusters showed distinct features despite clinical similarities.ConclusionsIn end-stage IPF lung tissue, we identified two clusters of patients with very different levels of immune signatures and gene expression but with similar clinical characteristics. Weather these immune clusters differentiate diverse disease trajectories remains unexplored
