Catena-(bis((1,10-Phenanthroline-N,N')-copper(II)) hydroxy-bis( phosphato)-tris(dioxo-vanadium(v))): a polymorphic phase driven by disorder.
International audienceIn the present paper a copper(II) phosphovanadate is presented and formulated as [Cu6(phen)6(VVO2)6(PO4)6(VVO2HO)3] (1a). This compound was obtained by hydrothermal synthesis and crystallizes in the triclinic group P-1, with a = 10.6290(5), b = 17.4275(8), c = 23.6151(11) Å; α = 92.888(4)°, β = 98.910(4)° and γ = 91.995(4)°. The leitmotif in (1a) is almost identical to some previously reported ones, viz. [Cu(phen)(VVO2)(PO4)]2[VVO2(OH)] (2); [Cu(phen)(VVO2)(PO4)]2[VIVO2(H2O)] (3) except for the fact that the small cells found in (2)-(3) are tripled in (1a). The reasons driving to these differences are subtle, and reside in the way in which the disorder in some vanadate groups takes place, viz., completely at random in (2)-(3) thus leading to a small "average" cell, while keeping some systematics in (1a) thus needing for a larger motif to take account of its repetition scheme in the crystal. The magnetic unit in the structure of (1a) is defined by a dinuclear system of CuII bonded by a μ2,η1-PO4 bridge. A fit of the corresponding magnetic data of (1a) was done, using the van Vleck equation for two S = ½ centres View the MathML source. The parameters obtained by the fit of the experimental data were g = 2.1 and J = −3.5 cm−1

Changes in the arrhythmic profile of patients treated for heart failure are associated with modifications in their myocardial perfusion conditions
Background: Heart failure (HF) patients can benefit from a proper RS. We had observed
that they show an increase in the number of arrhythmias during the first year of pharmacological
treatment.
Methods: We carried out a prospective observational study in which patients in an HF Clinic
were included when they had follow-up Holter monitoring. Patients also had a baseline myocardial
perfusion scan (Tc99 sestaMIBI/dypiridamole) and a control scan.
Results: We included 90 patients with follow-up Holter and 35 with scintigraphy, for analysis.
Fifty-six (62.2%) were men and the average age was 60.8 ± 14.6 years. Follow-up periods
were divided by six-month intervals up to 18 months or more, an increase in premature
ventricular contractions (PVCs) occurred in the six-month to one-year period (1915.4 ±
± 4686.9 vs. 2959 ± 6248.1, p = 0.09). In the one-year to 18-month control, PVCs went from
781.6 ± 1082.4 to 146.9 ± 184.1, p = 0.05. The increase in PVCs correlated with a reduction
in scintigraphy-detected ischemic territories, 5.64 ± 5.9 vs. 3.18 ± 3 (p = 0.1) and a gain in
those showing a reverse redistribution pattern (0.18 ± 0.6 vs. 2.09 ± 4.01, p = 0.1). Necrotic
territories and time domain heart rate variability did not show significant changes.
Conclusions: PVCs increase during the first year of HF treatment, and then they tend to
diminish and stabilize. These changes seem to correlate with changes in the perfusion state of
the patient. While ischemic territories decrease, reverse redistribution increases, showing that
endothelial dysfunction could have a relevant role in arrhythmia generation, possibly because
of membrane instability of recovered hibernating myocardium. (Cardiol J 2008; 15: 261-267
Pore size analysis from retention of neutral solutes through nanofiltration membranes. The contribution of concentration–polarization
Producción CientÃficaPore size distribution is one of the most important characteristics of a membrane. This can be obtained from the
fitting of pore radius calculated fromretention versus flux measurements for a set of solute solutions. In thiswork
a set of non-charged similar molecules is chosen as solutes to minimize other interactions apart of those related
to size. The hydrodynamic model will be used to characterize the behavior of the membrane to uncharged
solutes, assuming that membrane pores are straight and cylindrical.
As is known, the phenomenon of concentration polarization must be taken into account because true retention is
not experimentally accessible by concentration measurements. Frequently, the film layer model is applied for the
dependence of concentration with experimental conditions; but the application of this model requires prior
knowledge of the mass transfer coefficientwhich is evaluated by different dimensionless correlations (Sherwood
correlation). Here we show a review of different alternatives in doing it and analyze their consequences when
computing the pore size distribution.
Experimental data were obtained from dead-end filtration experiments of a set of four ethylene glycol solutions
with a nanofiltration membrane. Obtained results show the importance of the mass transfer model in the pore
size value obtained.Junta de Castilla y León (programa de apoyo a proyectos de investigación – Ref. VA302U13
