Understanding User Behavioral Intention to Adopt a Search Engine that Promotes Sustainable Water Management
An increase in usersâ online searches, the social concern for an efficient management of resources such as water, and the appearance of more and more digital platforms for sustainable purposes to conduct online searches lead us to reflect more on the usersâ behavioral intention with respect to search engines that support sustainable projects like water management projects. Another issue to consider is the factors that determine the adoption of such search engines. In the present study, we aim to identify the factors that determine the intention to adopt a search engine, such as Lilo, that favors sustainable water management. To this end, a model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is proposed. The methodology used is the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis with the Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS). The results demonstrate that individuals who intend to use a search engine are influenced by hedonic motivations, which drive their feeling of contentment with the search. Similarly, the success of search engines is found to be closely related to the ability a search engine grants to its users to generate a social or environmental impact, rather than usersâ trust in what they do or in their results. However, according to our results, habit is also an important factor that has both a direct and an indirect impact on usersâ behavioral intention to adopt different search engines
Measurements On Passive Tunable Optical Filters For DWDM
WFOPC 2002 IEEE/LEOS Workshop on Fibre and Optical Passive Components, University of Glasgow, Scotland, on 5th-6th June 2002.Measurements on a passive optical fibre tunable filter are presented. The device is based on a loop mirror in a ring resonator. The loop mirror allows tuning by changing the coupling coefficient of a coupler. The novel filter structure allows planar optical integration for having higher free spectral ranges. Novel and simple design equations for the filter parameters and the tuning process are reported. There is a good agreement between measurements and theory.Universidad Carlos III de MadridPublicad
Tunable Optical Filters Using Compound Ring Resonators for DWDM
The device is based on a loop mirror in a ring resonator. The loop mirror allows tuning by changing the coupling coefficient of a directional coupler. The loop mirror is implemented using a Sagnac configuration to have the same optical path between the signals to be interfered (copropagating and counterpropagating ones). The filter structure allows optical integration for having higher free-spectral ranges. Simple design equations for the filter parameters and the tuning are reported. Measurements on a passive optical fiber tunable filter are presented. There is a good agreement between measurements and theory.Publicad

Inhibiting cryptoâransomware on windows platforms through a honeyfileâbased approach with RâLocker
Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad, Grant/Award Number: TIN2017-83494-RAfter several years, cryptoâransomware attacks still constitute a principal threat for individuals
and organisations worldwide. Despite the fact that a number of solutions are
deployed to fight against this plague, one main challenge is that of early reaction, as
merely detecting its occurrence can be useless to avoid the pernicious effects of the
malware. With this aim, the authors introduced in a previous work a novel antiransomware
tool for Unix platforms named RâLocker. The proposal is supported on a
honeyfileâbased approach, where âinfiniteâ trap files are disseminated around the target
filesystem for early detection and to effectively block the ransomware action. The authors
extend here the tool with three main new contributions. First, RâLocker is migrated to
Windows platforms, where specific differences exist regarding FIFO handling. Second,
the global management of the honeyfiles around the target filesystem is now improved to
maximise protection. Finally, blocking suspicious ransomware is (semi)automated
through the dynamic use of whiteâ/blackâlists. As in the original work for Unix systems,
the new Windows version of RâLocker shows high effectivity and efficiency in
thwarting ransomware action.Spanish Government TIN2017-83494-
Absorptive capacity from foreign direct investment in Spanish manufacturing firms
This paper deals with the determinants of absorptive capacity from foreign direct investment (FDI) spillovers. We study how firm behavior, capabilities, and structure drive absorptive capacity such as research and development (R&D) activities and expenditures, R&D results, internal organization of innovation, external relationships of innovation, human-capital quality, family management, business complexity, and market concentration. Our results enhance and complement previous evidence of the determinants of absorptive capacity, particularly with different approaches to innovative activities as mediators of the capability
On the Number of Factorizations of an Element in an Atomic Monoid
Let S be a reduced commutative cancellative atomic monoid. If s is a nonzero element of S, then we explore problems related to the computation of η(s), which represents the number of distinct irreducible factorizations of sâS. In particular, if S is a saturated submonoid of Nd, then we provide an algorithm for computing the positive integer r(s) for which
0 \u3c limnââη(sn)nr(s)-1â.
We further show that r(s) is constant on the Archimedean components of S. We apply the algorithm to show how to compute
limnââη(sn)nr(s)-1
and also consider various stability conditions studied earlier for Krull monoids with finite divisor class group
Peer Reviewe
Omega 3 fatty acids induce a marked reduction of apolipoprotein B48 when added to fluvastatin in patients with type 2 diabetes and mixed hyperlipidemia: a preliminary report

Abstract

Backgorund

Mixed hyperlipidemia is common in patients with diabetes. Statins, the choice drugs, are effective at reducing lipoproteins that contain apolipoprotein B100, but they fail to exert good control over intestinal lipoproteins, which have an atherogenic potential. We describe the effect of prescription omega 3 fatty acids on the intestinal lipoproteins in patients with type 2 diabetes who were already receiving fluvastatin 80 mg per day.

Methods

Patients with type 2 diabetes and mixed hyperlipidemia were recruited. Fasting lipid profile was taken when patients were treated with diet, diet plus 80 mg of fluvastatin and diet plus fluvastatin 80 mg and 4 g of prescription omega 3 fatty acids. The intestinal lipoproteins were quantified by the fasting concentration of apolipoprotein B48 using a commercial ELISA.

Results

The addition of 4 g of prescription omega 3 was followed by significant reductions in the levels of triglycerides, VLDL triglycerides and the triglyceride/HDL cholesterol ratio, and an increase in HDL cholesterol (P < 0.05). Fluvastatin induced a reduction of 26% in B100 (P < 0.05) and 14% in B48 (NS). However, the addition of omega 3 fatty acids enhanced this reduction to 32% in B100 (NS) and up to 36% in B48 (P < 0.05).

Conclusion

Our preliminary findings therefore suggest an additional benefit on postprandial atherogenic particles when omega 3 fatty acids are added to standard treatment with fluvastatin.</p
