Right Handed Weak Currents in Sum Rules for Axialvector Constant Renormalization

    Get PDF
The recent experimental results on deep inelastic polarized lepton scattering off proton, deuteron and 3^{3}He together with polari% zed neutron β\beta-decay data are analyzed. It is shown that the problem of Ellis-Jaffe and Bjorken sum rules deficiency and the neutron paradox could be solved simultaneously by assuming the small right handed current (RHC) admixture in the weak interaction Lagrangian. The possible RHC impact on pion-nucleon σ\sigma-term and Gamow-Teller sum rule for (p,n)(p,n) nuclear reactions is pointed out.Comment: to be published in Phys. Rev. Lett. LaTeX, 8 pages, 21 k

Analysis of solar neutrino induced double beta processes for several nuclei

We investigate neutrino flux induced double beta transitions in targets built of Cd112, Cd114, Cd116 and O18 isotopes. In addition to known beta^- beta^- channel we consider new beta^- beta^+ and beta^- beta^+ gamma modes of the neutrino induced double beta process. A possibility of detection of the solar neutrinos via the induced double beta transitions of interest is discussed. We note that the beta^- part of the solar neutrino induced beta^- beta^+ process in O18 was already discussed in Ref. [9,10] in connection with a possible influence of high energy electron production of this origin on the SuperKamiokande results.Comment: 5 pages, LaTeX. Talk presented by S. V. Environmental Improvement Of Opencast Mining

Existing classifications of waste dumps in the quarries are given and their phenomenological nature is clarified. The need to identify the essence of the term "dump" is shown as well as the idea of "dump" as an artificial formation with everted and mixed rocks distanced from the quarry. Essential classification of man-made rock formations in quarries is developed. Characteristic of variations of man-made waste formations in quarries is developed. To reduce harmful effects of open-pit mining, dumps should be substituted with strat-lays - man-made structures relevant to natural stratification of litho-substances. Construction of strat-lays would improve ecological and technological culture of open cast mining

Organization of state hospital assistance in feudal France, on the example of the HOTEL-DIEU

    Get PDF
The article presents some data on the organization of hospital care in France in the period before The French revolution on the example of one of the first hospitals in Europe Hotel-Dieu. The archival materials of the national library of France of the second half of the XIX century, presented in French, were studied. It is established that by the time of the end of the feudal period, the Hotel-Dieu was the largest hospital with a developed system of medical care.

Testing neutrino magnetic moment in ionization of atoms by neutrino impact

The atomic ionization processes induced by scattering of neutrinos play key roles in the experimental searches for a neutrino magnetic moment. Current experiments with reactor (anti)neutrinos employ germanium detectors having energy threshold comparable to typical binding energies of atomic electrons, which fact must be taken into account in the interpretation of the data. Our theoretical analysis shows that the so-called stepping approximation to the neutrino-impact ionization is well applicable for the lowest bound Coulomb states, and it becomes exact in the semiclassical limit. Numerical evidence is presented using the Thomas-Fermi model for the germanium atom.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figur

The neutron and its role in cosmology and particle physics

Experiments with cold and ultracold neutrons have reached a level of precision such that problems far beyond the scale of the present Standard Model of particle physics become accessible to experimental investigation. Due to the close links between particle physics and cosmology, these studies also permit a deep look into the very first instances of our universe. First addressed in this article, both in theory and experiment, is the problem of baryogenesis ... The question how baryogenesis could have happened is open to experimental tests, and it turns out that this problem can be curbed by the very stringent limits on an electric dipole moment of the neutron, a quantity that also has deep implications for particle physics. Then we discuss the recent spectacular observation of neutron quantization in the earth's gravitational field and of resonance transitions between such gravitational energy states. These measurements, together with new evaluations of neutron scattering data, set new constraints on deviations from Newton's gravitational law at the picometer scale. Such deviations are predicted in modern theories with extra-dimensions that propose unification of the Planck scale with the scale of the Standard Model ... Another main topic is the weak-interaction parameters in various fields of physics and astrophysics that must all be derived from measured neutron decay data. Up to now, about 10 different neutron decay observables have been measured, much more than needed in the electroweak Standard Model. This allows various precise tests for new physics beyond the Standard Model, competing with or surpassing similar tests at high-energy. The review ends with a discussion of neutron and nuclear data required in the synthesis of the elements during the "first three minutes" and later on in stellar nucleosynthesis.Comment: 91 pages, 30 figures, accepted by Reviews of Modern Physic
