Strongly lensed repeating Fast Radio Bursts as precision probes of the universe
Fast Radio bursts (FRBs), bright transients with millisecond durations at
GHz and typical redshifts probably , are likely to be
gravitationally lensed by intervening galaxies. Since the time delay between
images of strongly lensed FRB can be measured to extremely high precision
because of the large ratio between the typical galaxy-lensing delay
time (10 days) and the width of bursts (ms),
we propose strongly lensed FRBs as precision probes of the universe. We show
that, within the flat CDM model, the Hubble constant can be
constrained with a uncertainty from 10 such systems probably
observed with the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) in 30 years. More
importantly, the cosmic curvature can be model-independently constrained to a
precision of . This constraint can directly test the validity of the
cosmological principle and break the intractable degeneracy between the cosmic

Cosmology-independent Estimate of the Fraction of Baryon Mass in the IGM from Fast Radio Burst Observations
The excessive dispersion measure (DM) of fast radio bursts (FRBs) has been proposed to be a powerful tool to study intergalactic medium (IGM) and to perform cosmography. One issue is that the fraction of baryons in the IGM, f IGM, is not properly constrained. Here, we propose a method of estimating f IGM using a putative sample of FRBs with the measurements of both DM and luminosity distance d L. The latter can be obtained if the FRB is associated with a distance indicator (e.g., a gamma-ray burst or a gravitational-wave event), or the redshift z of the FRB is measured and d L at the corresponding z is available from other distance indicators (e.g., SNe Ia) at the same redshift. As d L/DM essentially does not depend on cosmological parameters, our method can determine f IGM independent of cosmological parameters. We parameterize f IGM as a function of redshift and model the DM contribution from a host galaxy as a function of star formation rate. Assuming f IGM has a mild evolution with redshift with a functional form and by means of Monte Carlo simulations, we show that an unbiased and cosmology-independent estimate of the present value of f IGM with a ~12% uncertainty can be obtained with 50 joint measurements of d L and DM. In addition, such a method can also lead to a measurement of the mean value of DM contributed from the local host galaxy
Lead poisoning in a 6-month-old infant: a case report
BackgroundLead is a toxic element of the environment that leads to major complications once it enters the blood stream, affecting multiple organs and systems of the body.MethodsWe present a case of a 6-month-old female infant diagnosed with lead poisoning after presenting for routine child health care. The child's mother denied that the infant had a history of exposure to lead-containing substances. After a month of calcium supplementation, the patient's blood lead level remained elevated. We then tested the blood lead level of the mother and father. The results showed that the blood lead level of the mother was 77.0 μg/L and that of the father was 36.9 μg/L. The high blood lead level of the mother attracted our attention. We found that the mother had been using an external traditional Chinese medicine, Hu Wang Fen, which contains lead. After the mother's discontinuation of use of the traditional medicine, the child was treated with symptomatic treatment and chelation therapy. Subsequently, the patient's blood lead level decreased significantly.ResultsLead toxicity can be a life-threatening problem because of its potential for severe complications. In children, there is no safe blood lead level, and the toxic effects of lead can be prevented by the awareness and avoidance of traditional Chinese medicines that may contain lead.ConclusionEven though the diagnosis of lead poisoning remains difficult in children, it must be taken into consideration by the clinician when treating a child using traditional Chinese medicines
Interfacial Properties of Bilayer and Trilayer Graphene on Metal Substrates
One popular approach to prepare graphene is to grow them on transition metal
substrates via chemical vapor deposition. By using the density functional
theory with dispersion correction, we systematically investigate for the first
time the interfacial properties of bilayer (BLG) and trilayer graphene (TLG) on
metal substrates. Three categories of interfacial structures are revealed. The
adsorption of B(T)LG on Al, Ag, Cu, Au, and Pt substrates is a weak
physisorption, but a band gap can be opened. The adsorption of B(T)LG on Ti,
Ni, and Co substrates is a strong chemisorption, and a stacking-insensitive
band gap is opened for the two uncontacted layers of TLG. The adsorption of
B(T)LG on Pd substrate is a weaker chemisorption, with a band gap opened for
the uncontacted layers. This fundamental study also helps for B(T)LG device
study due to inevitable graphene/metal contact.Comment: 1 table, 8 figure
Izdvajanje dihidromiricetina iz lišća biljke Ampelopsis grossedentata mikrovalnom i višefaznom protustrujnom ekstrakcijom
Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) technique in combination with multi-stage countercurrent extraction (MCE), namely microwave multi-stage countercurrent extraction (MMCE), was evaluated for the extraction of dihydromyricetin (DMY) from Ampelopsis grossedentata. Ethanol, methanol and water were used as extract solvents in the MMCE method. Of the three solvents used, water was found to be the best in extracting DMY from Ampelopsis grossedentata because it had a good extraction yield and is inexpensive, non-toxic and environmentally friendly. The optimal conditions of MMCE for the extraction of DMY can be determined to be the ratio of the extraction solvent to plant material of 30:1, the extraction time of 5 min, the extraction temperature of 110 °C and the microwave power of 600 W. In addition, the extraction efficiency of the MMCE method was compared with that of the microwave static batch extraction (MSBE) under the optimum extraction conditions. It was found that the MMCE method offered higher extraction efficiency than the MSBE method. Thus, the study suggests that the MMCE method provides an alternative technique in terms of both cost and efficiency.Ekstrakcija dihidromiricetina iz lišća biljke Ampelopsis grossedentata pokusno je provedena metodom mikrovalne ekstrakcije u kombinaciji s višefaznom protustrujnom ekstrakcijom. Kao otapalo upotrijebljeni su etanol, metanol i voda. Voda je najbolja za ekstrakciju dihidromiricetina iz Ampelopsis grossedentata jer daje dobro iskorištenje, jeftina je, nije toksična i ekološki je prihvatljiva. Kao optimalni uvjeti ovako kombinirane metode za ekstrakciju dihidromiricetina određeni su: omjer otapala i biljnog materijala 30:1, vrijeme ekstrakcije od 5 min, temperatura od 110 °C i snaga mikrovalova od 600 W. Uspoređujući učinkovitost ove metode s metodom diskontinuirane mikrovalne ekstrakcije u optimalnim
uvjetima, vidi se da se veća učinkovitost ekstrakcije postiže višefaznom nego diskontinuiranom mikrovalnom ekstrakcijom. Stoga se, s obzirom na troškove i njezinu učinkovitost, može preporučiti kao alternativna metoda
