    Uneven illumination surface defects inspection based on convolutional neural network

    Surface defect inspection based on machine vision is often affected by uneven illumination. In order to improve the inspection rate of surface defects inspection under uneven illumination condition, this paper proposes a method for detecting surface image defects based on convolutional neural network, which is based on the adjustment of convolutional neural networks, training parameters, changing the structure of the network, to achieve the purpose of accurately identifying various defects. Experimental on defect inspection of copper strip and steel images shows that the convolutional neural network can automatically learn features without preprocessing the image, and correct identification of various types of image defects affected by uneven illumination, thus overcoming the drawbacks of traditional machine vision inspection methods under uneven illumination

    12-O-Tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate Induces Epstein–Barr Virus Reactivation via NF-κB and AP-1 as Regulated by Protein Kinase C and Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase

    AbstractSignaling pathway components mediating Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) reactivation by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) were characterized in terms of induction and modification of specific transacting factors. The consequences of protein kinase C (PKC) activation by TPA in inhibiting inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) mRNA expression were analyzed in the EBV-infected gastric epithelial cell line GT38. Spontaneous expression of the EBV BZLF1 gene product ZEBRA became undetectable upon long-term culturing of GT38 cells, while iNOS mRNA expression increased. In such cells the PKC inhibitors 1-(5-isoquinolinesulphonyl)-2,5-dimethylpiperazine (H7) and staurosporine inhibited TPA-induced expression of BZLF1 and BRLF1 and reversed TPA-mediated inhibition of iNOS gene expression. The mitogen-activated protein kinase inhibitor PD98059 inhibited TPA-induced BZLF1 expression. Electrophoretic mobility shift assays demonstrated that transcription factors NF-κB and AP-1 were also activated by TPA in a time-dependent manner. The TPA-induced NF-κB activation was inhibited by prior treatment of the cells with the NF-κB inhibitor pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC). TPA-induced BZLF1 expression was also inhibited by the treatment with PDTC. Northern blot analyses characterized changes in levels of the c-jun and junB expressions of the AP-1 family. These results show that TPA induces EBV reactivation via NF-κB and AP-1 and that PKC is an important mediator in regulating gene expression leading to EBV reactivation after TPA treatment of GT38 cells

    Molecular Logic Computation with Debugging Method

    Seesaw gate concept, which is based on a reversible DNA strand branch process, has been found to have the potential to be used in the construction of various computing devices. In this study, we consider constructing full adder and serial binary adder, using the new concept of seesaw gate. Our simulation of the full adder preformed properly as designed; however unexpected exception is noted in the simulation of the serial binary adder. To identify and address the exception, we propose a new method for debugging the molecular circuit. The main idea for this method is to add fan-outs to monitor the circuit in a reverse stepwise manner. These fan-outs are fluorescent signals that can obtain the real-time concentration of the target molecule. By analyzing the monitoring result, the exception can be identified and located. In this paper, examples of XOR and serial binary adder circuits are described to prove the practicability and validity of the molecular circuit debugging method

    Personality Openness Predicts Driver Trust in Automated Driving

    Maintaining an appropriate level of trust in automated driving (AD) is critical to safe driving. However, few studies have explored factors affecting trust in AD in general, and no study, as far as is known, has directly investigated whether driver personality influences driver trust in an AD system. The current study investigates the relation between driver personality and driver trust in AD, focusing on Level 2 AD. Participants were required to perform a period of AD in a driving simulator, during which their gaze and driving behavior were recorded, as well as their subjective trust scores after driving. In three distinct measures, a significant correlation between Openness and driver trust in the AD system is found: participants with higher Openness traits tend to have less trust in the AD system. No significant correlations between driver trust in AD and other personality traits are found. The findings suggest that driver personality has an impact on driver trust in AD. Theoretical and practical implications of this finding are discussed

    Arcuate Nucleus Orexin-A Signaling Alleviates Cisplatin-Induced Nausea and Vomiting Through the Paraventricular Nucleus of the Hypothalamus in Rats

    The most common side effects of cisplatin chemotherapy are nausea and vomiting, and the overwhelming majority of research studies on the mechanism of cisplatin-induced nausea have been focused on the “vomiting center.” As a modulatory center of gastric motility, the roles of the hypothalamus in nausea and vomiting remain unclear. In the present study, we investigated the effects of exogenous orexin-A injected into the arcuate nucleus (ARC) on cisplatin-induced nausea and vomiting, and the possible underlying mechanism. Kaolin intake was calculated daily in cisplatin-treated and saline-treated rats. Gastric motility recording, injections into the ARC, and lesions of the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) were used to study the effects of orexin-A and the hypothalamic nucleus on disorders of gastrointestinal function in cisplatin-treated rats. The pathway from the ARC to the PVN was observed through Fluoro-Gold retrograde tracing. Furthermore, an NPY Y1 receptor antagonist was administered to explore the possible mechanisms involved in the effects of orexin-A in the ARC. We illustrated that exogenous orexin-A injected into the ARC reduced kaolin intake and promoted gastric motility in cisplatin-treated rats, and these effects could have been blocked by an ipsilateral PVN lesion or co-injected antagonist of orexin-A-SB334867. Additional results showed that orexin-A-activated neurons in the ARC communicated directly with other neurons in the PVN that express neuropeptide Y (NPY). Furthermore, activation of the downstream NPY pathway was required for the observed effects of orexin in the ARC on cisplatin-induced nausea and vomiting. These findings reveal a novel neurobiological circuit from the ARC to the PVN that might provide a potential target for the prevention and treatment of cisplatin-induced nausea and vomiting

    DNA Methylation and Gene Expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase 9 Gene in Deficit and Non-deficit Schizophrenia

    The biological pathology of deficit schizophrenia (DS) remains unclear. Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) might be associated with neural plasticity and glutamate regulation, involved in schizophrenia pathogenesis. This study explores gene expression and DNA methylation of MMP9 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and their relationship with clinical symptoms in DS and non-deficit schizophrenia (NDS). Pyrosequencing was used to determine DNA methylation at CpG sites in exon 4 and exon 5 of MMP9 in 51 DS patients, 53 NDS patients and 50 healthy subjects (HC). RT-qPCR was used to detect MMP9 expression. Clinical symptoms were assessed by BPRS, SANS and SAPS scales. MMP9 expression in PBMCs was significantly higher in DS than NDS and HC subjects. Compared to NDS patients, DS patients had significantly lower DNA methylation at individual CpG sites in exon 4 and exon 5 of MMP9. Correlation analysis showed that DNA methylation in exon 4 was negatively correlated with gene expression in DS group. Positive correlation was found between MMP9 expression and negative symptoms in total schizophrenic patients. The social amotivation factor of SANS and negative syndrome of BPRS was negatively correlated with DNA methylation of CpG5-1 in DS patients but not in NDS patients. DS patients showed a specific abnormality of peripheral MMP9 expression and DNA methylation, indicating a pathological mechanism underlying DS as a specific subgroup of schizophrenia

    Baichuan 2: Open Large-scale Language Models

    Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable performance on a variety of natural language tasks based on just a few examples of natural language instructions, reducing the need for extensive feature engineering. However, most powerful LLMs are closed-source or limited in their capability for languages other than English. In this technical report, we present Baichuan 2, a series of large-scale multilingual language models containing 7 billion and 13 billion parameters, trained from scratch, on 2.6 trillion tokens. Baichuan 2 matches or outperforms other open-source models of similar size on public benchmarks like MMLU, CMMLU, GSM8K, and HumanEval. Furthermore, Baichuan 2 excels in vertical domains such as medicine and law. We will release all pre-training model checkpoints to benefit the research community in better understanding the training dynamics of Baichuan 2.Comment: Baichuan 2 technical report.
