Efficient Three-stage Auction Schemes for Cloudlets Deployment in Wireless Access Network

Cloudlet deployment and resource allocation for mobile users (MUs) have been extensively studied in existing works for computation resource scarcity. However, most of them failed to jointly consider the two techniques together, and the selfishness of cloudlet and access point (AP) are ignored. Inspired by the group-buying mechanism, this paper proposes three-stage auction schemes by combining cloudlet placement and resource assignment, to improve the social welfare subject to the economic properties. We first divide all MUs into some small groups according to the associated APs. Then the MUs in same group can trade with cloudlets in a group-buying way through the APs. Finally, the MUs pay for the cloudlets if they are the winners in the auction scheme. We prove that our auction schemes can work in polynomial time. We also provide the proofs for economic properties in theory. For the purpose of performance comparison, we compare the proposed schemes with HAF, which is a centralized cloudlet placement scheme without auction. Numerical results confirm the correctness and efficiency of the proposed schemes.Comment: 22 pages,12 figures, Accepted by Wireless Network

Mathematical Model and Analysis of Negative Skin Friction of Pile Group in Consolidating Soil

    Get PDF
In order to calculate negative skin friction (NSF) of pile group embedded in a consolidating soil, the dragload calculating formulas of single pile were established by considering Davis one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation soils settlement and hyperbolic load-transfer of pile-soil interface. Based on effective influence area theory, a simple semiempirical mathematical model of analysis for predicting the group effect of pile group under dragload was described. The accuracy and reliability of mathematical models built in this paper were verified by practical engineering comparative analysis. Case studies were studied, and the prediction values were found to be in good agreement with those of measured values. Then, the influences factors, such as, soil consolidation degree, the initial volume compressibility coefficient, and the stiffness of bearing soil, were analyzed and discussed. The results show that the mathematical models considering nonlinear soil consolidation and group effect can reflect the practical NSF of pile group effectively and accurately. The results of this paper can provide reference for practical pile group embedded in consolidating soil under NSF design and calculation

Field test on thermal response characteristics of an energy pile in underground row piles

Underground row piles are usually used in excavation of underground structures and abandoned after structural construction. The heat exchanger tubes embedded in the underground row piles can be severed as energy piles, which can exchange shallow geothermal energy. The construction process of the energy pile in the underground row piles was introduced. Compared with the traditional single energy pile, there is a special characteristic of the energy pile in underground row piles: piles are linked as a whole by the top beam at the top of the row pile. Field tests on the thermal response and thermo-mechanical characteristics of the energy pile in underground row piles were performed. The stable input power of 2.07 kW. The distribution of temperature, strain, and stress of pile body along depth were measured and discussed. It shows that the measured comprehensive thermal conductivity coefficient of soil is 3.72W/(m×K). In the thermo-mechanical analysis after heating, due to the end restrains by the top beam and toe in stiff rock, the rate of thermal stress to temperature change at the top and toe are -0.101 MPa/℃ (34% of fully restrain) and -0.061 MPa/℃ (20% of fully restrain)

Analytical Solution for Stress and Displacement after X-Section Cast-in-Place Pile Installation

X-section cast-in-place (referred to as XCC) pile, which is one of new pile types developed by Hohai University, is widely used for pile foundation and pile-supported embankment over soft ground in China. However, little research has been carried out on this new type pile, especially the surrounding soil disturbance under XCC pile installation. This paper presents an analytical solution for estimating the horizontal stress and displacement of surrounding soil of XCC pile after XCC pile installation. The reliability and accuracy of the present solution are verified by comparing them with the field test results. Then, parametric studies, such as outsourcing diameter (a), open arc distance (b), open arc angle (θ), the undrained strength (Su), the limit pile cavity pressure (Plim), and the radius of the plastic zone (Rp), are discussed for the practice engineering design. The results show that the stress and displacement distributions of surrounding soil calculated by this paper are in agreement with field test results
