    The Deterministic Capacity of Relay Networks with Relay Private Messages

    We study the capacity region of a deterministic 4-node network, where 3 nodes can only communicate via the fourth one. However, the fourth node is not merely a relay since it can exchange private messages with all other nodes. This situation resembles the case where a base station relays messages between users and delivers messages between the backbone system and the users. We assume an asymmetric scenario where the channel between any two nodes is not reciprocal. First, an upper bound on the capacity region is obtained based on the notion of single sided genie. Subsequently, we construct an achievable scheme that achieves this upper bound using a superposition of broadcasting node 4 messages and an achievable "detour" scheme for a reduced 3-user relay network.Comment: 3 figures, accepted at ITW 201

    Direct Extraction and Assessment of Genomic DNA of Mycetoma Fungi from Black-grains Specimen

    Background: Direct isolation of genomic DNA of mycetoma fungi from black-grains achieve rapid diagnosis and may overcome culture disadvantages. Objectives: This study aimed to isolate and assess the DNA of mycetoma fungi using black-grains and to apply amplification of ITS region and nucleotide sequences. Methods: CTAB method was followed by manual homogenization alternatively to liquid nitrogen and glass beads disruption to obtain the genomic DNA. Results: Yielded DNA concentrations vary from 1.50 to 47.97 μg/ml (mean 10.09 μg/ml) while the optimum DNA purity recorded with 75.8% of specimens (n=69/91).Successful amplification of ITS region was done using pan-fungal primers (ITS4/5) with 90.1 (n=82/91)percentage. Species nucleotide sequences were detected with 67 (94.4%) amplicons from a total of 71.Conclusion: The study recommended using of black-grain specimens for DNA extraction of mycetoma fungi parallel with culture to insure rabid diagnosis and identification

    Sexual behaviour of pregnant women attending antenatal care clinic at Assiut Women's Health Hospital, Egypt

    Background: The aim of the current study was to describe the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behavior of pregnant women regarding sexuality during pregnancy. Study was carried out at Women’s Health Hospital, Assiut University, Egypt.Methods: A cross-sectional study included pregnant women at different gestational ages between December 2016 and Jun 2017 recruited consecutively at the antenatal outpatient clinic of women’s Health Hospital at Assiut University. We used the Arabic version of the Female Sexual Function Index (Ar-FSFI) in the interview to evaluate the sexual functions or problems during the last month. The cut-off score used to indicate sexual dysfunction was 28.1. The obtained data were analyzed by means of SPSS software (version 22.0) and p<0.05 was taken as the significant level.Results: The study included 140 pregnant women at different ages and trimesters and also at different socio-economic states. Concerning the level of knowledge, the classification in recorded a mean score =11.91±4.05 which revealed a level of knowledge below average. Regarding the extent of beliefs in relation to sexuality during pregnancy, the mean score=2.72 of the respondents’ beliefs means that the impact of the beliefs regarding sexuality during pregnancy was weak among respondents. On assessing their perceptions about sexual intercourse during pregnancy, majority of them [130 (93.1%)] felt that sex have no negative impacts on pregnancy while 10 (6.9%) opined that sex during pregnancy had negative effects. Perceived negative effects of sex during pregnancy included vaginal bleeding and miscarriage.Conclusions: The low rate of sexual activity in our study, regardless question about the taboo of sexual intercourse during pregnancy, could be related to a cultural background in which women avoid speaking about their desires and sexual needs

    Penetration enhancers in proniosomes as a new strategy for enhanced transdermal drug delivery

    AbstractThe aim of this work is to investigate penetration enhancers in proniosomes as a transdermal delivery system for nisoldipine. This was performed with the goal of optimising the composition of proniosomes as transdermal drug delivery systems. Plain proniosomes comprising sorbitan monostearate, cholesterol, ethanol and a small quantity of water were initially prepared. Subsequently, proniosomes containing lecithin or skin penetration enhancers were prepared and evaluated for transdermal delivery of nisoldipine. The plain proniosomes significantly enhanced the transdermal flux of nisoldipine to reach 12.18μgcm−2h−1 compared with a saturated aqueous drug solution which delivered the drug at a rate of 0.46μgcm−2h−1. Incorporation of lecithin into such proniosomes increased the drug flux to reach a value of 28.51μgcm−2h−1. This increase can be attributed to the penetration enhancing effect of lecithin fatty acid components. Replacing lecithin oleic acid (OA) produced proniosomes of comparable efficacy to the lecithin containing system. The transdermal drug flux increased further after incorporation of propylene glycol into the OA based proniosomes. Similarly, incorporation of isopropyl myristate into plain proniosomes increased drug flux. The study introduced enhanced proniosomes as a promising transdermal delivery carrier and highlighted the role of penetration enhancing mechanisms in enhanced proniosomal skin delivery. The study opened the way for another line of optimisation of niosome proconcentrates

    The Deterministic Multicast Capacity of 4-Node Relay Networks

    In this paper, we completely characterize the deterministic capacity region of a four-node relay network with no direct links between the nodes, where each node communicates with the three other nodes via a relay. Towards this end, we develop an upper bound on the deterministic capacity region, based on the notion of a one-sided genie.     Evaluation of Podocalyxin level in pre-eclampsia with severe features' patients: a cross-sectional study

    Background: This study aims to evaluate the level of podocalyxin (PCX) in preeclampsia with severe features patients and correlate it with the results of laboratory tests.Methods: The current study was a cross-sectional study conducted in Assiut Women Health Hospital between April and October 2018.  The study included 60 patients divided into two groups; Group (A): 30 patients diagnosed to have preeclampsia with severe features and Group (B): 30 patients as normal control group. Complete laboratory investigations with measurements of the PCX level was performed for all study participants.Results: No statistically significant difference between the study group and control group according to blood urea (p= 0.339) and serum creatinine (p= 0.801).There was statistically significant difference between the study group and control group according to PCX level (p= 0.001); the mean PCX was 3340.0 ± 2394.6 in the study group versus 1083.5±1400.2 in the control group. Univariate analysis revealed podocalyxin was not correlated with clinical data or laboratory investigations.Conclusions: Podocalyxin levels were significantly elevated in preeclampsia

    Usefulness of atropine in patients with chronotropic incompetence and poor exercise capacity during treadmill stress testing

    AbstractBackgroundAtropine, an anticholinergic agent, has been shown to increase heart rate and enhance the sensitivity of dobutamine stress echocardiography in the detection of CAD in patients with chronotropic incompetence; however, the addition of atropine to exercise stress testing EST, in these types of patients has not been well studied previously.ObjectiveInvestigating the usefulness and accuracy of atropine in decreasing the number of inconclusive results of EST in patients with chronotropic incompetence and poor exercise capacity.MethodsThirty patients (16 males and 14 females with the age range of 40:73years with mean of 55±8) out of 180 patients who preformed EST were chosen as having chronotropic incompetence or poor exercise capacity by Borg scale. Atropine was administered during the exercise phase in doses of 0.5mg per minute until test conclusion or the maximum dose of 2mg was reached. All patients were subjected to stress myocardial perfusion imaging SMPI to confirm accuracy.ResultsConclusive test results were achieved in 29 patients (97%). Heart rate and blood pressure were markedly increased with statically highly significant difference (P value <0.001), patients on b-blocker treatment had lower maximum heart rate compared to other patients with significant difference. Twenty-three (79%) patients had negative test results and six (21%) patients had positive test results, and if compared to SMPT results, EST was considered better positive than negative test, with higher specificity than sensitivity and accuracy.ConclusionsAtropine injection during EST significantly reduced the inconclusive test results in patients with chronotropic incompetence and poor exercise capacity
