Human-computer interaction in the large is an interdisciplinary area which attracts researchers, educators, and practioners from many differenf fields. Human-computer interaction studies a human and a machine in communication, it draws from supporting knowledge on both the machine and the human side. This paper is related to the human side of human-computer interaction and focuses on animations. The growing use of animation in Web pages testifies to the increasing ease with which such multimedia features can be created. This trend shows a commitment to animation that is often unmatched by the skill of the implementers. The paper presents a set of guidelines and tips to help designers prepare better and more effective Web sites. These guidelines are drawn from an extensive literature survey

Knowledge management (KM) is the name given to the set of systematic and disciplined actions that an organisation can take to obtain the greatest value from the knowledge available to it. Knowledge management has received increasing attention from 1990. For a few years, it was the next big thing after business process reengineering and total quality management. This paper describes and compares concepts of KM and TQM. At the end, it concludes that KM and TQM are complementary and to be successful, it is necessary to take an integrated approach to management

Background and aim: Digital libraries have been attracted by many countries around the world in recent years, and many scientific outputs regarding to digital libraries have been published. The aim of this study was to analyze the scientific papers of the world in the field of digital libraries based on quantitative and qualitative indicators with focus on Iran's rank. Material and methods: This descriptive-analytical study with a scientometric approach was evaluated 5637 papers indexed in Web of Science (WoS) by the end of 2016. The HistCite software was used for data analysis and VOSviewer software was applied for drawing the maps related to thematic and co-authorship analysis. Findings: The result indicates that the scientific papers of the world have had an increasing trend in this field. H-index of articles was 93 and 18 in the world and Middle East countries, respectively. The United States of America (USA) had the highest number of articles (2221) with h-index 81. Iran had h-index 7. It was found that single-authored paper had the highest frequency among global papers. Scientific collaborative coefficient was 0.44 and 0.54 for global and Iranian researchers during 35 years, respectively. Conclusion: The research results suggest that most scientific articles of digital libraries have been published by several countries, with the USA topping the list. In the Middle East, Iran has the largest share in science production with 41 articles

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the recreational reading status of students at the Tarbiat Modares University. Methodlogy: This is a descriptive-analytical survey. The statistical population consists of a group of master's and doctoral students of Tarbiat Modares University in the academic year of 1398-99. The sample size was 203 people. The research questionnaire was based on the Müller’s questionnaire. To assess the validity of the questionnaire, the opinions of experts were used. The questionnaire was randomly distributed among them. The reliability of the questionnaire was calculated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. It was 0.834%. Findlings: Most of repondents refer to 13.38% of the recreational resources of virtual networks, and the university has not been able to stimulate interest in recreational reading among students. Among the libraries, their first priority is 49.74% of the central library of Tarbiat Modares University, compared to the public library and other libraries. For information from recreational sources, 29.17% of them prefer email. However, most students, (65.33%), preferred printed format to enjoy recreational reading. Conclusion: We concluded that the interest in recreational reading is approximately 37.4% on average. Due to the limited time to do class activities, they spend three to four hours a week on recreational reading, and 32.2% studied their favorite subjects. Value: The study provides original information on the current state of recreational reading of students at the Tarbiat Modares University which could lead to significant results if used in future planning of library

Why Are Scholarly Journals Costly even with Electronic Publishing?

Journal literature has long played a prominent role in the scholarly communication chain. In recent decades, however, the scholarly communication system has been facing a crisis due to the ever-escalating costs of journals. This paper examines the reasons for the high costs of scholarly journals. A brief review of literature on journal publishing costs was carried out. The paper focuses on the economics of scholarly English language journals published mainly in the United States and Europe, but which are sold worldwide, largely to academic and research libraries. Two of the features of the journal publishing industry cited a decade ago and still valid today are a “lack of competition” and “perverse incentives.” The “first-copy cost” is reported to be the main reason for high journal prices both in print and electronic publishing
