An Optimization Clustering Algorithm Based on Texture Feature Fusion for Color Image Segmentation

    Get PDF
We introduce a multi-feature optimization clustering algorithm for color image segmentation. The local binary pattern, the mean of the min-max difference, and the color components are combined as feature vectors to describe the magnitude change of grey value and the contrastive information of neighbor pixels. In clustering stage, it gets the initial clustering center and avoids getting into local optimization by adding mutation operator of genetic algorithm to particle swarm optimization. Compared with well-known methods, the proposed method has an overall better segmentation performance and can segment image more accurately by evaluating the ratio of misclassification.© 2015 by the authors; licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. A kind of web-like carbon with interconnected nanoribbons was fabricated using bacterial cellulose pyrolyzed at various temperatures, and the microwave dielectric properties were investigated. Bacterial cellulose was converted into carbonized bacterial cellulose (CBC) with a novel three-dimensional web built of entangled and interconnected cellulose ribbons when the carbonization temperature was below 1,200°C; the web-like structure was destroyed at a temperature of 1,400°C. Composites of CBC impregnated with paraffin wax exhibited high complex permittivity over a frequency range of 2 to 18 GHz, depending on the carbonization temperature. Both real and imaginary parts were the highest for CBC pyrolyzed at 1,200°C. The complex permittivity also strongly depended on CBC loadings. For 7.5 wt.% loading, the real and imaginary permittivities were about 12 and 4.3, respectively, and the minimum reflection loss was -39 dB at 10.9 GHz. For 30 wt.% loading, the real and imaginary permittivities were about 45 and 80, respectively, and the shielding efficiency was more than 24 dB in the measured frequency range and could be up to 39 dB at 18 GHz. The electromagnetic properties were assumed to correlate with both the dielectric relaxation and the novel web-like structure

Revealing intrinsic domains and fluctuations of moir\'e magnetism by a wide-field quantum microscope

Moir\'e magnetism featured by stacking engineered atomic registry and lattice interactions has recently emerged as an appealing quantum state of matter at the forefront condensed matter physics research. Nanoscale imaging of moir\'e magnets is highly desirable and serves as a prerequisite to investigate a broad range of intriguing physics underlying the interplay between topology, electronic correlations, and unconventional nanomagnetism. Here we report spin defect-based wide-field imaging of magnetic domains and spin fluctuations in twisted double trilayer (tDT) chromium triiodide CrI3. We explicitly show that intrinsic moir\'e domains of opposite magnetizations appear over arrays of moir\'e supercells in low-twist-angle tDT CrI3. In contrast, spin fluctuations measured in tDT CrI3 manifest little spatial variations on the same mesoscopic length scale due to the dominant driving force of intralayer exchange interaction. Our results enrich the current understanding of exotic magnetic phases sustained by moir\'e magnetism and highlight the opportunities provided by quantum spin sensors in probing microscopic spin related phenomena on two-dimensional flatland

An efficient fuzzy optimization algorithm based on convolutional neural network

    No full text
The paper proposes a method based on dense-sparse-dense optimization algorithm. It uses sparsity to tune network weights. By adding fuzzy membership, the optimization strategy can enhance the feature information with larger weights and weaken the feature information with less weight. Through accurate cutting of network weights, parameters in network are effectively reduced. The experimental results show that the performance of this method is better than the existing method

Non-local means filter is a special case of non-linear filter. It performs well for filtering Gaussian noise while preserving edges and details of the original images. In this paper, we propose an improved filter for color image denoising based on combining the advantages of non-local means filter and bilateral filter. To compare the similarity of patches, a new weight value is computed by adding texture information into weights. The experimental results of color image filtering show that the proposed method has a better performance for reducing Gaussian noise and mixture noise

An Anti-Cancer Peptide LVTX-8 Inhibits the Proliferation and Migration of Lung Tumor Cells by Regulating Causal Genes’ Expression in p53-Related Pathways

Spider venom has been found to show its anticancer activity in a variety of human malignancies, including lung cancer. In this study, we investigated the anti-cancer peptide toxin LVTX-8, with linear amphipathic alpha-helical conformation, designed and synthesized from the cDNA library of spider Lycosa vittata. Multiple cellular methods, such as CCK-8 assay, flow cytometry, colony formation assay, Transwell invasion and migration assay, were performed to detect peptide-induced cell growth inhibition and anti-metastasis in lung cancer cells. Our results demonstrated that LVTX-8 displayed strong cytotoxicity and anti-metastasis towards lung cancer in vitro. Furthermore, LVTX-8 could suppress the growth and metastasis of lung cancer cells (A549 and H460) in nude mouse models. Transcriptomics, integrated with multiple bioinformatics analysis, suggested that the molecular basis of the LVTX-8-mediated inhibition of cancer cell growth and metastasis manifested in two aspects: Firstly, it could restrain the activity of cancer cell division and migration through the functional pathways, including “p53 hypoxia pathway” and “integrin signaling”. Secondly, it could regulate the expression level of apoptotic-related proteins, which may account for programmed apoptosis of cancer cells. Taken together, as an anticancer peptide with high efficiency and acceptable specificity, LVTX-8 may become a potential precursor of a therapeutic agent for lung cancer in the future

The alternation of halobenzoquinone disinfection byproduct on toxicogenomics of DNA damage and repair in uroepithelial cells

Halobenzoquinones (HBQs) were recently discovered as an emerging class of drinking water disinfection byproducts with carcinogenic concern. However, the molecular mechanism underlying HBQs-induced DNA damage is not clear. In this study, we integrated in vitro genotoxicity, computational toxicology, and the quantitative toxicogenomic analysis of HBQs on DNA damage/repair pathways in human bladder epithelial cells SV-HUC-1. The results showed that HBQs could induce cytotoxicity with the descending order as 2,6-DIBQ > 2,6-DCBQ ≈ 2,6-DBBQ. Also, HBQs can increase DNA damage in SV-HUC-1 cells and thus generate genotoxicity. However, there is no significant difference in genotoxicity among the three HBQs. The results of molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation further confirmed that HBQs had high binding fractions and stability to DNA. Toxicogenomic analysis indicated that HBQs interfered with DNA repair pathways, mainly affecting base excision repair, nucleotide excision repair and homologous recombination repair. These results have provided new insights into the underlying molecular mechanisms of HBQs-induced DNA damage, and contributed to the understanding of the relationship between exposure to DBPs and risks of developing bladder cancer

Oxidative stress as a key event in 2,6-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone-induced neurodevelopmental toxicity

2,6-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone (DCBQ) has been identified as an emerging disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in drinking water and has the potential to induce neurodevelopmental toxicity. However, there is rarely a comprehensive toxicological evaluation of the neurodevelopmental toxicity of DCBQ. Here, neural differentiating SH-SY5Y cells were used as an in vitro model. Our results have found that DCBQ has decreased cell viability and neural differentiation, generated higher level of reactive oxygen species (ROS), increased the percentage of apoptosis and lowered the level of mitochondrial membrane potential, suggesting the neurodevelopmental toxicity of DCBQ. In addition, antioxidant N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) could significantly attenuate these DCBQ-induced neurotoxic effects, supporting our hypothesis that the neurodevelopmental toxicity may be related with oxidative stress induced by DCBQ. We further demonstrated that DCBQ-induced neurodevelopmental toxicity could promote the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway and inhibit the prosurvival PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway through inducing ROS, which ultimately inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in neural differentiating SH-SY5Y cells. These findings have provided novel insights into the risk of neurodevelopmental toxic effects associated with DCBQ exposure, emphasizing the importance of assessing the potential neurodevelopmental toxicity of DBPs
