in anemic human, rat, or mouse blood, when studied in vitro, seem to exhibit an increased phagocytic activity when compared to those of normal subjects. Moreover, anemic mice were also more resistant to infection with Salmonella typhimurium than were control mice. These authors believed that the neutrophils from anemic blood had undergone some fundamental change which did not appear related to increased motility. It is the purpose of this report to study phago-cytosis of polymorphonuclear leucocytes and macrophages using Cryptococcus neoformans both in vitro and in experimentally infected mice.
