CFT fusion rules, DHR gauge groups, and CAR algebras
It is demonstrated that several series of conformal field theories, while
satisfying braid group statistics, can still be described in the conventional
setting of the DHR theory, i.e. their superselection structure can be
understood in terms of a compact DHR gauge group. Besides theories with only
simple sectors, these include (the untwisted part of) c=1 orbifold theories and
level two so(N) WZW theories. We also analyze the relation between these models

Grand Unification of Quark and Lepton FCNCs
In the context of Supersymmetric Grand Unified theories with soft breaking
terms arising at the Planck scale, it is generally possible to link flavor
changing neutral current and CP violating processes occurring in the leptonic
and hadronic sectors. We study the correlation between flavor changing squark
and slepton mass insertions in models \`a la SU(5). We show that the
constraints coming from lepton flavor violation exhibit a strong impact on

On the Different Mode of Action of Au(I)/Ag(I)-NHC Bis-Anthracenyl Complexes Towards Selected Target Biomolecules
Gold and silver N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are emerging for therapeutic applications. Multiple techniques are here used to unveil the mechanistic details of the binding to different biosubstrates of bis(1-(anthracen-9-ylmethyl)-3-ethylimidazol-2-ylidene) silver chloride [Ag(EIA)2]Cl and bis(1-(anthracen-9-ylmethyl)-3-ethylimidazol-2-ylidene) gold chloride [Au(EIA)2]Cl. As the biosubstrates, we tested natural double-stranded DNA, synthetic RNA polynucleotides (single-poly(A), double-poly(A)poly(U) and triple-stranded poly(A)2poly(U)), DNA G-quadruplex structures (G4s), and bovine serum albumin (BSA) protein. Absorbance and fluorescence titrations, mass spectrometry together with melting and viscometry tests show significant differences in the binding features between silver and gold compounds. [Au(EIA)2]Cl covalently binds BSA. It is here evidenced that the selectivity is high: low affinity and external binding for all polynucleotides and G4s are found. Conversely, in the case of [Ag(EIA)2]Cl, the binding to BSA is weak and relies on electrostatic interactions. [Ag(EIA)2]Cl strongly/selectively interacts only with double strands by a mechanism where intercalation plays the major role, but groove binding is also operative. The absence of an interaction with triplexes indicates the major role played by the geometrical constraints to drive the binding mode
Chargino Contributions in Asymmetry
CP asymmetry in decay is studied in a special context of
supersymmetry theories, in which the charginos play an important role. We find
that in addition to the gluino, chargino can also make large contributions to
CP asymmetry in decay. After considering the constraints from
decay, we study three special scenarios: (a). Large mixing on
left-handed charm and top squarks (LL mixing); (b). Large mixing on
right-handed charm and top squarks (RR mixing); (c). Large mixing on
left-handed charm and top squarks plus right-handed charm and top squarks (LL +
RR mixing). We show quantitatively that because of large squark mixing within
second and third generations, an (1) effect on CP violation in is possible
Supersymmetric Flavor Models and the B --> phi K_S Anomaly
We consider the flavor structure of supersymmetric theories that can account
for the deviation of the observed time-dependent CP asymmetry in B --> phi K_S
from the standard model prediction. Assuming simple flavor symmetries and
effective field theory, we investigate possible correlations between sizable
supersymmetric contributions to b --> s transitions and to flavor changing
processes that are more tightly constrained. With relatively few assumptions,
we determine the properties of minimal Yukawa and soft mass textures that are
compatible with the desired supersymmetric flavor-changing effect and
constraints. We then present explicit models that are designed (at least
approximately) to realize these textures. In particular, we present an Abelian
model based on a single U(1) factor and a non-trivial extra-dimensional
topography that can explain the CP asymmetry in B --> phi K_S, while
suppressing other supersymmetric flavor changing effects through a high degree

CP--Violating Invariants in Supersymmetry
I study the weak basis CP-violating invariants in supersymmetric models, in
particular those which cannot be expressed in terms of the Jarlskog--type
invariants, and find basis--independent conditions for CP conservation. With an
example of the K-anti-K mixing, I clarify what are the combinations of
supersymmetric parameters which are constrained by experiment.Comment: matches the PRD versio
Time-dependent appearance of myofibroblasts in granulation tissue of human skin wounds
Human skin wounds (66) inflicted between 20 h and 7 months prior to biopsy were studied. In order to identify the type of cellular differentiation of the fibroblastic cells in the granulation tissue, alpha-smooth muscle actin and desmin were immunohistochemically localized. The value of any presumed time-dependent appearance and/or disappearance of positively stained cells was tested for the estimation of wound age. In skin specimens with a wound age less than 5 days (n =15) no typical granulation tissue had developed and no alpha-actin-positive myofibroblasts could be detected. The first appearance of positively reacting myofibroblasts was noted in a 5-day-old wound. In 57% of the lesions with a wound age between 5 and 31 days (25 out of 44 cases) typical granulation tissue formation was present and myofibroblasts with positive reaction for alpha-smooth muscle actin could be identified. Numerous positively reacting cells could generally be found in wounds aged between 16 and 31 days, but also in wounds less than 16 days old. In 29% of the cases with a wound age of more than 31 days (2 out of 7 cases) alpha-sma-positive myofibroblasts also occured. Fibroblastic cells positive for desmin could not be seen at all in our series. Our results demonstrate the appearance of alpha-sma-positive myofibroblasts with the initial formation of typical granulation tissue in human skin lesions as early as approximately 5 days after wounding. In contrast to recent experimental results these cells remained detectable in wounds aged more than 2 months in some cases. The immunohistochemical detection of actin-positive cells, therefore, demonstrates whether an unknown skin wound is aged approximately 5 days or more. Even though a time-dependent decrease of myofibroblasts in human granulation tissue after 31 days in human wounds seems probable, the extended presence (up to about 2 months) of these cells allows no further exact age determination of older wounds
A New Supersymmetric CP Violating Contribution to Neutral Meson Mixing
We study the contribution to flavor changing neutral current processes from
box diagrams with light higgsinos and squarks. Starting with just the Cabbibo
Kobayashi Maskawa (CKM) phase, we find contributions to the and
meson mass matrices that are out of phase with the Standard Model contributions
in the case of substantial mixing between the up-type squarks. This difference
in phase could be large enough to be detected at the proposed factories,
with interesting implications for the unitarity triangle of CKM matrix
