    Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050.     This study is part of the evaluation of higher education field, specifically in one of the evaluative processes implemented by the Ministry of Education in Brazil, the National Higher Education Evaluation System (SINAES in Portuguese). It refers to a survey conducted in a public institution of higher education in the municipality of Macapá-AP and aimed to investigate how it is been the implementation process of a public policy of institutional assessment at the Federal University of Amapá in Teaching degree courses under the perspective of teachers and members of the Assessment Committee. It is constituted as the theoretical framework of this study authors such as, Dias Sobrinho (2000-2010) Polidori and Barreyro (2006-2009), Sordi (2002-2011), among others of relevance in the field of higher education assessment. The study of qualitative nature is constituted of a case study, because it is a research involving a single institution and a specific evaluation program, and had as a source of data collection to document analysis, the semi - structured interviews with CPA members, and with teachers, conducting focal groups. The research has shown that teachers of the four Teaching degree courses and CPA members understand that the institution it is been experiencing a gradual process of change in relation to the conceptions and directions of public policy, recognizes its importance, the same way they want to participate in the evaluation process and that the results could serve as a basis for the development of institutional policies for the IES investigated.Financiadora de Estudos e ProjetosEste estudo insere-se no campo da avaliação da educação superior, especificamente em um dos processos avaliativos implementados pelo Ministério da Educação no Brasil, o Sistema Nacional de Avaliação da Educação Superior (SINAES). Refere-se a uma pesquisa realizada em uma instituição pública de ensino superior no município de Macapá-AP e teve como objetivo investigar como está ocorrendo o processo de implementação de uma politica pública de avaliação institucional na Universidade Federal do Amapá nos cursos de licenciatura sob a ótica dos professores e membros da Comissão Própria de Avaliação. Constitui-se como referencial teórico do presente estudo autores como, Dias Sobrinho (2000-2010) Polidori e Barreyro (2006-2009), Sordi (2002-2011), dentre outros de relevância no campo da avaliação da educação superior. O estudo de natureza qualitativa constitui-se de um estudo de caso, por tratar-se de uma investigação envolvendo uma única instituição e um programa específico de avaliação, e teve como fonte de coleta de dados a análise documental, as entrevistas semi - estruturadas com os membros da CPA e com os professores a realização de grupos focais. A pesquisa mostrou que os professores dos quatro cursos de Licenciatura e os membros da CPA compreendem que a instituição vem vivenciando um processo gradativo de mudanças no que tange às concepções e direcionamentos da política pública, reconhecem sua importância, da mesma forma que desejam participar do processo avaliativo e que os resultados sirvam de base para a elaboração de políticas institucionais para a IES investigada

We investigated the presence of antibodies against the most prevalent arboviruses. OBJECTIVES: This study was aimed at evaluating some clinical and physical parameters of domestic pigeons, including the presence of antibodies to Amazon-endemic arboviruses. METHODS: Eighty-five healthy pigeons were captured in Mangal das Garças Park, in Belém, and were bled. Upon capture, the birds were subjected to a clinical examination in search of alterations that could indicate the presence of arboviruses. Blood samples were converted to serum and tested using the haemagglutination inhibition (HI) technique with a panel of 19 antigens of arboviruses circulating in the Amazon. The confirmation assay for the positive reactions to the viral species tested by HI was a neutralisation test in new-born Swiss albino mice (Mus musculus) [mouse neutralisation test (MNT)]. FINDINGS: A total of 10 (11.8%) serum samples tested positive for antiflavivirus antibodies by HI. All the samples positive for the HI test were subjected to MNT for detection of viruses and yielded negative results (logarithmic neutralisation index < 1.7). MAIN CONCLUSION: The results represent the first serological detection of antiarbovirus antibodies in domestic pigeons as potential hosts of arboviruses in Brazil. The detection of haemagglutination-inhibiting antibodies against genus Flavivirus indicated that there was recent contact between the analysed domestic pigeons and these arboviruses. Further studies are needed to evaluate the role of free-living pigeons in the maintenance cycle and spread of arboviruses in the Amazon

    NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES: a data set on carnivore distribution in the Neotropics

    Mammalian carnivores are considered a key group in maintaining ecological health and can indicate potential ecological integrity in landscapes where they occur. Carnivores also hold high conservation value and their habitat requirements can guide management and conservation plans. The order Carnivora has 84 species from 8 families in the Neotropical region: Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Otariidae; Phocidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae. Herein, we include published and unpublished data on native terrestrial Neotropical carnivores (Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae). NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES is a publicly available data set that includes 99,605 data entries from 35,511 unique georeferenced coordinates. Detection/non-detection and quantitative data were obtained from 1818 to 2018 by researchers, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private consultants. Data were collected using several methods including camera trapping, museum collections, roadkill, line transect, and opportunistic records. Literature (peer-reviewed and grey literature) from Portuguese, Spanish and English were incorporated in this compilation. Most of the data set consists of detection data entries (n = 79,343; 79.7%) but also includes non-detection data (n = 20,262; 20.3%). Of those, 43.3% also include count data (n = 43,151). The information available in NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES will contribute to macroecological, ecological, and conservation questions in multiple spatio-temporal perspectives. As carnivores play key roles in trophic interactions, a better understanding of their distribution and habitat requirements are essential to establish conservation management plans and safeguard the future ecological health of Neotropical ecosystems. Our data paper, combined with other large-scale data sets, has great potential to clarify species distribution and related ecological processes within the Neotropics. There are no copyright restrictions and no restriction for using data from this data paper, as long as the data paper is cited as the source of the information used.
