Trax on the Trail is a website where scholars, educators, journalists, students, and the general public can learn about American presidential campaign music and gain insight into how sound participates in forming candidate identity. Our interdisciplinary team includes academic experts from the fields of political science, musicology, sociology, history, communications, and ethnomusicology, as well as industry professionals and students. We will follow the 2016 presidential campaign as it unfolds and post original scholarship that addresses the creative use of music and sound on the campaign trail

Costs and energy consumption of sugar beet production processes

Celem pracy było porównanie oraz analiza struktury kosztów i energochłonności trzech wariantów technologii uprawy buraków cukrowych przy wykorzystaniu wytypowanych maszyn do procesu produkcji. Dokonano oceny wybranych technologii w zakresie kosztów i nakładów energetycznych z podziałem na robociznę i paliwo, materiały i surowce oraz eksploatację maszyn. Po uwzględnieniu plonu buraków cukrowych oraz całkowitych kosztów produkcji i nakładów energetycznych w poszczególnych technologiach, obliczono opłacalność i energetyczną efektywność produkcji buraków cukrowych.The purpose of the work was to compare and analyse the structure of costs and energy consumption of three sugar beet cultivation technology variants involving the use of selected machines in production process. The research allowed to evaluate selected technologies as regards involved costs and energy expenditures, including division into costs of labour and fuel, materials and raw materials, and machinery operation. The researchers calculated sugar beet production profitability and energy efficiency, taking into account sugar beet crop and total production costs and energy expenditures for individual technologies

Analysis and evaluation of the social, demographic and economic transformation (based on the Michalowice commune emphasis)

Artykuł zawiera analizę i ocenę przemian społeczno-demograficznych oraz gospodarczych w gminie Michałowice. W pierwszej części artykułu na podstawie literatury przedmiotu wyjaśniono termin suburbanizacji (urban-sprawl). Następnie dokonana została charakterystyka gminy Michałowice jako gminy położonej w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie Krakowa oraz przedstawione zostały obowiązujące w niej akty miejscowego planowania przestrzennego. W związku z tym, że sytuacja demograficzna stanowi podstawowy aspekt rozwoju społeczno gospodarczego, w dalszej części pracy przedstawiono dynamikę zmian demograficznych, a także zmian strukturalnych związanych z przyrostem nowej substancji budowlanej. Co więcej, przeprowadzono badania ankietowe wśród losowo wybranych mieszkańców, dotyczące sytuacji społeczno – demograficznej w gminie Michałowice. Tempo wzrostu/spadku liczby podmiotów gospodarczych w gminie wpływa na jej rozwój będą go hamuje. Tym samym, ostatnia część badań dotyczyła stanu i dynamiki przyrostu liczby podmiotów gospodarczych w badanej gminie.The article analyses and evaluates social, demographic and economic changes in the community of Michałowice. In the first part of the work, the author defines the term urban-sprawl, based on specialist literature. Next, the article focuses on characteristic features of the Michałowice community, which is located in the vicinity of Krakow. That is a cause of strong social and economic links with the city. Moreover, the articles presents current local acts of spatial planning. Since, demographic situation plays an important role in the social and economic development of the area, the next part of the article sheds some light on demographic dynamics, including structural changes related to the expansion of building developments. In addition, the study also included surveys among randomly selected inhabitants concerning the social and economic situation in the community. The development of the area is influenced by the rate of increase/decrease of business undertakings. That is why the last part of the article presents the current state and growth dynamics of business undertakings in Michałowice

Costs and energy consumption for sugar beet root transport

Na podstawie własnych badań oraz materiałów źródłowych przedstawiono analizę kosztów i energochłonności odwozu korzeni buraków cukrowych z pryzmy do cukrowni przy wykorzystaniu różnych zestawów transportowych. Najniższe koszty i energochłonność odwozu korzeni z pryzmy w odniesieniu do 1 ha (średnia odległość transportowania 80 km) odnotowano dla zestawu I - RENAULT Magnum 440 + naczepa o ładowności 28 t - średnie wartości były odpowiednio - 952 złźha-1 i 5022 MJźha-1.On the basis of our studies and source materials we have presented the analysis of costs and energy consumption, calculated for transport of sugar beets from the pile to a sugar factory with the use of various transport units. The lowest costs and energy consumption for the transport of sugar beet roots from the pile, in relation to 1 ha (mean transport distance 80 km), were found for unit 1 - RENAULT Magnum 440 + semitrailer, load capacity 28 t. The mean values were 952 zlotysźha-1 and 5022 MJźha-1 respectively

Mechanical properties of roots in selected sugar beet varieties

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań polowych dotyczących wpływu choroby wirusowej Rizomani na plonowanie, biologiczną zawartość cukru i związków melasotwórczych w korzeniach buraków cukrowych. W warunkach laboratoryjnych określono wpływ odmiany (składu chemicznego) na wybrane cechy mechaniczne świeżych korzeni buraków cukrowych.The paper presents results of field tests concerning the impact of Rizomania viral disease on cropping, and biological content of sugar and molasses producing compounds in sugar beet roots. The research allowed to determine in laboratory conditions the impact of variety (chemical constitution) on selected mechanical characteristics of fresh sugar beet roots

Is Kraków a smart city yet? Analysis of the effectiveness of implementing the smart city concept in Kraków

Cities play a fundamental role in the economic development of the country. The vast majority of jobs, innovations and services are concentrated in the cities, thereby determining the country’s economy. Currently, the Smart City is the key concept of sustainable urban development throughout the world. It covers a broad spectrum of issues related to effective, sustainable city management. Today, Kraków faces important challenges in the field of socio-economic and functional development. For years, the city’s authorities have been undertaking activities aimed at making Kraków a smart and modern metropolis, based on scientific potential, while maintaining the unique historical and cultural heritage. The aim of the present work is to analyse the effectiveness of implementing the Smart City concept in Kraków. To achieve that goal, the most important resources, challenges and development aspirations of Kraków have been examined. The strategic objectives set out in the Kraków Development Strategy and the degree of development of selected elements and systems of the city were also analysed. An important element of the work is a questionnaire-based survey carried out among the residents of Kraków. The results of the analyses do not fully confirm the effectiveness of the measures implemented. A city that aspires to become a strong European metropolis should improve solutions to its current development problems, the most important of which include air quality and transport nuisance
