AS-938-22 Resolution on AB 928 and Common GE Pathway

Urges the Office of the Chancellor to satisfy AB 928 compliance requirements via a 12-course IGETC pathway or, alternatively, via coded memorandum that exempts prospective transfer students from taking all 12 IGETC lower-division courses and, instead, deems them to be transfer ready with only 11 lower-division courses. It also forwards this resolution to the Office of the Chancellor, all CSU Academic Senate Chairs, and the Academic Senate Statewide Executive Committee

AS-889-20 Resolution on Subject Area Guidelines (II) for General Education 2020

That the Academic Senate of Cal Poly approve the attached Subject Area Guidelines covering Areas C, D, and E in the Template for General Education 2020; and be it further RESOLVED that these Guidelines be used for the review and implementation of pre-existing and proposed General Education courses from Areas C, D, and E within the 2020–2021 and subsequent catalogs

AS-873-19 Resolution on Template for General Education 2020

Cal Poly’s current General Education template was created over two decades ago; and Executive Order 1100-Revised, imposed on the CSU campuses in August 2017, mandates modification of Cal Poly’s current General Education template; therefore, be it that the Academic Senate of Cal Poly approve the attached Template for General Education 2020; and be it further that it be implemented for all students following the 2020–2021 and subsequent catalogs

AS-879-19 Resolution on Subject Area Guidelines (I) for General Education 2020

Cal Poly’s Academic Senate has approved the Template for General Education 2020; and Implementation of the new Template requires the establishment of course criteria and educational objectives for all General Education courses; therefore, be it that the Academic Senate of Cal Poly approve the attached Subject Area Guidelines covering Areas A and B in the Template for General Education 2020; and be it further that these Guidelines be used for the review and implementation of pre-existing and proposed General Education courses from Areas A and B within the 2020-2021 and subsequent catalogs

AS-850-18 Resolution on Creation of Area B7 and Migration of Current Area F Classes

That Area B, currently named as Science and Mathematics, will be renamed, Math, Science, and Quantitative Reasoning, beginning with the 2019-21 Cal Poly catalog; and be it further that as an interim step, Area F will become a subset of Area B known as B7, beginning with the 2019-21 catalog; and be it further that all current Area F courses will be moved to the new Area B7; and be it further that all the Area B learning objectives will be revised to reflect Area B objectives in the revised EO 1100; and be it further that, to remain in the new Area B7 for the 2021-2023 catalog and subsequent catalogs, all existing Area F courses will need to be resubmitted for review by the GE Governance Board and the Academic Senate Curriculum Committee under the new learning objectives

AS-936-22 Resolution on Educational Objectives and Criteria for Study Abroad Courses in Languages Other Than English

Approves the revised educational objectives and criteria for study abroad languages other than English (attached to the resolution), and be it also resolves that these changes do not require the recertification of currently certified C2 courses in this subarea

AS-851-18 Resolution on Migration of Current Area D4 Classes to Area E

That Subarea D4: Self-Development will be renamed Area E; Lifelong Learning and Self-Development, beginning with the 2019-21 Cal Poly catalog, and be it further That all current Area D4 courses will be moved to the new Area E, and be it further That the existing Subarea D4 learning objectives and criteria will be revised to reflect the description of CSU Area E in the revised EO 1100, including the expanded content and the emphasis on lifelong learning

AS-941-22 Resolution on AB 928 and CSU GE Golden Four

Resolves the disciplines in the CSU Golden Four represent essential, foundational learning not only for the GE curriculum, but for every major curriculum as well; and resolves that in light of the decades-long educational value the CSU has many times confirmed, courses in oral communication, lifelong learning, and critical thinking should be upheld, and the Golden Four disciplines should be retained as distinct areas within CSU GE and IGETC; and forwards this resolution to the Office of the Chancellor, all CSU Academic Senate Chairs, and the Academic Senate Statewide Executive Committee

Academic Senate approves the creation of Area F Ethnic Studies to be implemented following the 2021-2022 catalogs

AS-883-19 Resolution on Updating The United States Cultural Pluralism (USCP) Criteria

That the Academic Senate of Cal Poly approve the attached revised United States Cultural Pluralism criteria which immediately replace and supersede the previous USCP criteria (AS-676-09)
