Commemorating the First World War in Britain: A Cultural Legacy of Media Remembrance

One of the often-overlooked legacies of the First World War is how the conflict established the media’s role in remembrance. In the years that have followed, media’s circulation of iconic images of national and local commemoration have enabled individuals to engage with public remembrance. This article takes a historical approach to First World War remembrance in Britain, looking at how the practices and meaning of remembrance became established, although they were never fixed but instead constantly shifting, reinvented and contested. They are also gendered, in remembrance, as in war, women, are often seen as to be playing supportive roles; yet within media texts, women have always found spaces to exert influence over who is remembered and how, as memories jostle for prominence

Substitute potting compound for Sylgard 93-119 based on Sylgard 184 and Q3-6527 dielectric gel

Development of a substitute potting compound developed by Pantex to replace the no longer available Dow Corning 93-119 is described. The specific approach taken in this development utilized Dow Corning Sylgard 184 as the basic starting material, altering its viscosity with Dow Corning Dielectric Gel Q3-6527 and then modifying the cure rate with Dow Corning Accelerator Q3-6559. Various tests were run to characterize both chemical and physical properties of the substitutes as well as the initial 93-119 and the starting raw materials. Summaries of the data peculiar to this substitute are presented here whereas a more detailed examination of the test methods and results for the overall project are presented in another report. The properties of two substitutes developed from the two extremes of viscosity to be expected for Sylgard 184 during production are presented. These substitutes are easily quick-frozen in the catalyzed state for production use upon thawing. They are however somewhat more difficult to deaerate and eventually cure to a harder state than the original DC 93-119

Substitute potting compounds for Sylgard 93-120. Process Development Endeavor Nos. 203 and 207

The report deals with the development of substitute potting compounds to replace the no longer available Dow Corning 93-120. Three different approaches to formulate a substitute, two of which were successful are presented. The efforts discussed are a part of a laarger project to better understand the silicone potting compound technology and to formulate substitutes for specific materials which have been discontinued by Dow Corning

Background material properties of selected silicone potting compounds and raw materials for their substitutes

Since Dow Corning discontinued production of 93-119, 93-120, 93-122, Pantex joined with the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory to develop substitutes for these materials. Raw materials chosen for this project include Sylgard 184, Sylgard 186, Q3-6527 Dielectric Gel, Q3-6559 Accelerator, DC 1107 and Cab-o-Sil MS-75.
