The mixed black hole partition function for the STU model
We evaluate the mixed partition function for dyonic BPS black holes using the
recently proposed degeneracy formula for the STU model. The result factorizes
into the OSV mixed partition function times a proportionality factor. The
latter is in agreement with the measure factor that was recently conjectured
for a class of N=2 black holes that contains the STU model.Comment: 14 page
On walls of marginal stability in N=2 string theories
We study the properties of walls of marginal stability for BPS decays in a
class of N=2 theories. These theories arise in N=2 string compactifications
obtained as freely acting orbifolds of N=4 theories, such theories include the
STU model and the FHSV model. The cross sections of these walls for a generic
decay in the axion-dilaton plane reduce to lines or circles. From the
continuity properties of walls of marginal stability we show that central
charges of BPS states do not vanish in the interior of the moduli space. Given
a charge vector of a BPS state corresponding to a large black hole in these
theories, we show that all walls of marginal stability intersect at the same
point in the lower half of the axion-dilaton plane. We isolate a class of
decays whose walls of marginal stability always lie in a region bounded by
walls formed by decays to small black holes. This enables us to isolate a
region in moduli space for which no decays occur within this class. We then
study entropy enigma decays for such models and show that for generic values of
the moduli, that is when moduli are of order one compared to the charges,
entropy enigma decays do not occur in these models.Comment: 40 pages, 2 figure

In this paper, we analyze the scalar mesons and from
the decays within Perturbative
QCD approach. From the leading order calculations, we find that (a) in the
allowed mixing angle ranges, the branching ratio of is about , which is smaller than
that of (the difference is a few times even one
order); (b) the decay is better to distinguish
between the lowest lying state or the first excited state for ,
because the branching ratios for two scenarios have about one-order difference
in most of the mixing angle ranges; and (c) the direct CP asymmetries of for two scenarios also exists great difference. In
scenario II, the variation range of the value according to the mixing angle is very small, except for
the values corresponding to the mixing angles being near or
, while the variation range of in scenario I is very large. Compared with the future data for
the decay , it is ease to determine the nature

Very strong intrinsic supercurrent carrying ability and vortex avalanches in (Ba,K)Fe2As2 superconducting single crystals
We report that single crystals of (Ba,K)Fe2As2 with Tc = 32 K have a pinning
potential, U0, as high as 10^4 K, with U0 showing very little field
depend-ence. In addition, the (Ba,K)Fe2As2 single crystals become isotropic at
low temperatures and high magnetic fields, resulting in a very rigid vortex
lattice, even in fields very close to Hc2. The rigid vortices in the two
dimensional (Ba,K)Fe2As2 distinguish this compound from 2D high Tc cuprate
superconductors with 2D vortices, and make it being capable of cearrying very
high critical current.Flux jumping due to high Jc was also observed in large

The cDNA-deduced primary structure of human sex hormone-binding globulin and location of its steroid-binding domain
AbstractWe have sequenced a cDNA for sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) isolated from a phage λgt 11 human liver cDNA library. The library was screened with a radiolabeled rat androgen-binding protein (ABP) cDNA, and the abundance of SHBG cDNAs was 1 in 750 000 plaques examined. The largest human SHBG cDNA (1194 base-pairs) contained a reading frame for 381 amino acids. This comprised 8 amino acids of a signal peptide followed by 373 residues starting with the known NH2-terminal sequence of human SHBG, and ending with a termination codon. The predicted polypeptide Mr of SHBG is 40 509, and sites of attachment of one O-linked (residue 7) and two N-linked oligosaccharide (residues 351 and 367) chains were identified. Purified SHBG was photoaffinity-labeled with Δ6-[3H]testosterone and cleaved with trypsin. The labeled tryptic fragment was isolated by reverse-phase HPLC, and its NH2-terminal sequence was determined. The results suggest that a portion of the steroid-binding domain of SHBG is located between residue 296 and the 35 predominantly hydrophilic residues at the C-terminus of the protein

The sign of the day-night asymmetry for solar neutrinos
A qualitative understanding of the day-night asymmetry for solar neutrinos is
provided. The greater night flux in nu_e is seen to be a consequence of the
fact that the matter effect in the sun and that in the earth have the same
sign. It is shown in the adiabatic approximation for the sun that for all
values of the mixing angle theta_V between 0 and pi/2, the night flux of
neutrinos is greater than the day flux. Only for small values of theta_V where
the adiabatic approximation badly fails does the sign of the day-night

Subleading and non-holomorphic corrections to N=2 BPS black hole entropy
BPS black hole degeneracies can be expressed in terms of an inverse Laplace
transform of a partition function based on a mixed electric/magnetic ensemble,
which involves a non-trivial integration measure. This measure has been
evaluated for black holes with various degrees of supersymmetry and for N=4
supersymmetric black holes all results agree. It generally receives
contributions from non-holomorphic corrections. An explicit evaluation of these
corrections in the context of the effective action of the FHSV model reveals
that these are related to, but quantitatively different from, the
non-holomorphic corrections to the topological string, indicating that the
relation between the twisted partition functions of the latter and the
effective action is more subtle than has so far been envisaged. The effective
action result leads to a duality invariant BPS free energy and arguments are
presented for the existence of consistent non-holomorphic deformations of
special geometry that can account for these effects. A prediction is given for
the measure based on semiclassical arguments for a class of N=2 black holes.
Furthermore an attempt is made to confront some of the results of this paper to

How Do Black Holes Predict the Sign of the Fourier Coefficients of Siegel Modular Forms?
Single centered supersymmetric black holes in four dimensions have
spherically symmetric horizon and hence carry zero angular momentum. This leads
to a specific sign of the helicity trace index associated with these black
holes. Since the latter are given by the Fourier expansion coefficients of
appropriate meromorphic modular forms of Sp(2,Z) or its subgroup, we are led to
a specific prediction for the signs of a subset of these Fourier coefficients
which represent contributions from single centered black holes only. We
explicitly test these predictions for the modular forms which compute the index
of quarter BPS black holes in heterotic string theory on T^6, as well as in Z_N

Irreducible triangulations of surfaces with boundary
A triangulation of a surface is irreducible if no edge can be contracted to
produce a triangulation of the same surface. In this paper, we investigate
irreducible triangulations of surfaces with boundary. We prove that the number
of vertices of an irreducible triangulation of a (possibly non-orientable)
surface of genus g>=0 with b>=0 boundaries is O(g+b). So far, the result was
known only for surfaces without boundary (b=0). While our technique yields a
worse constant in the O(.) notation, the present proof is elementary, and
simpler than the previous ones in the case of surfaces without boundary
