Mucoperichondreum/-periosteum of the nose and septal perforation repair surgery

    No full text
Septal perforation (CP) is a defect of nasal septum with partial or total absence of certain layers of the damaged organ. Most perforations are iatrogenic and are not accompanied by clinical symptoms. The authors have created a flat mold showing the location of mucoperichondreum and mucoperiosteum of the nose, which can be used for shaping pedicle flaps and repairing the nasal septum. Extrapolation of actual perforation to the mold helps to plan surgical interventions for the repair of septal perforations

Adequate combined therapy of acute rhinitis and sinusitis

Nasty days of autumn and winter, with their cold days, windy weather, rain and snow bring about a period of increased morbidity. It's not a secret that almost every cold is accompanied by an inflammatory ENT disease. Along with the wider availability of the Internet in the recent years, an increasing number of patients do not seek medical help but choose self-medication. This leads to frequent and often unjustified administration of antibacterial drugs, growth in the number of antibiotic-resistant strains of microorganisms, which finally results in higher incidence of chronic acute bacterial sinusitis and severe complications. On the other hand, clinical practitioners often "commit a sin" of prescribing a list of medications which do not always constitute a rational therapy, often ignoring the routine patient examination that would ensure accurate diagnosis. The purpose of this article is to recall the clinical pattern, diagnosis and current treatment schemes for acute rhinitis and sinusitis, to help us avoid certain mistakes in the future

Mucolytic therapy of acute exacerbations of chronic rhinosinusitis

Epidemiologically acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the mucous membranes of the nose and paranasal sinuses (PNS) are among the most common pathologies. Sinusitis is one of the most common reasons for seeking doctor's aid in developed countries. Patients with rhinosinusitis account for 15 to 36% of all hospitalized patients in ENT units [1, 2]. Rhinosinusitis accounts for an even greater percentage of all respiratory diseases in outpatient settings

The problem of chronic tonsillitis (CT) is one of the most pressing in practical otolaryngology, which is supported by the data on high prevalence of the disease. The disease is found in 4-10% of adult population and in 12-15% of children [3, 4]

The study of the efficacy and safety of Tonsilgon® N in the treatment of chronic pharyngitis

Chronic pharyngitis is one of the most common diseases in ENT practice. [1] Experts have not yet come to a consensus on how to treat chronic pharyngitis. The search for combination drugs which are effective in the treatment of chronic pharyngitis is determined, first, by an attempt to prevent polypharmacy and complications caused by treatment, and, second, by the problem of antibiotic resistance. The role of medications with combined action, including the immunomodulating effect, cannot be overestimated. One of the most commonly used drugs today is Tonsilgon® N (Bionorica SE, Germany). [2

Conservative treatment of chemical injury to the nasal mucosa

The article tells about the ways to increase effectiveness of conservative treatment of rhinitis medicamentosa. 112 patients with a long-term history of use of decongestants were observed. A combination drug containing dexpanthenol which stimulates regeneration of the damaged ciliated epithelium was used for the treatment of chemical injury to the mucous membranes of the nose. Using modern methods of research, the authors proved that early treatment of rhinitis medicamentosa with nasal spray containing dexpanthenol, prevents the development of persistent vasomotor dysfunction of the nasal mucosa

Antibiotics in the treatment of tonsillar disease

    No full text
Tonsillar disease is one of the most common pathologies worldwide. People of all ages are at risk of the disease; however, inflammatory tonsillar diseases in children are especially challenging due to the risk of severe complications. Despite the fact that treatment algorithms for tonsillar disease are described in various global and national guidelines, the adequate choice of antimicrobial agents often causes difficulties for practitioners

Symptomatic therapy of temporary xerostomia in patients after surgery in the structures of the nasal cavity and pharynx

120 patients with deviated nasal septum, hypertrophic rhinitis and chronic tonsillitis (TAF I, II) after elective surgeries - septoplasty with sparing lower turbinotomy and tonsillectomy with combined endotrachal anesthesia - were examined and showed the signs of the initial transient xerostomia. There were no patients with symptomatic or late stage xerostomia. The clinical studies demonstrated the safety, efficiency and convenience of use of Hypozalix spray after ENT surgery. The medicine can effectively eliminate the symptoms of xerostomia and is well tolerated. Hypozalix spray facilitates postoperative oral care and reduces the risk of complications associated with xerostomia in the postoperative period
