The reaction at threshold in chiral perturbation theory
In the framework of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory, we give thIn the
framework of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory, we give the chiral
expansion for the threshold amplitudes and to
quadratic order in the pion mass. The theoretical results agree within one
standard deviation with the empirical values. We also derive a relation between
the two threshold amplitudes of the reaction and the S--wave scattering lengths, and , respectively, to order
. We show that there are uncertainties mostly related to
resonance excitation which make an accurate determination of the
scattering length from the threshold amplitudes at present
very difficult. The situation is different in the isospin two final
state. Here, the chiral series converges and one finds consistent with the one--loop chiral perturbation theory prediction.Comment: 30 pp, LaTeX file, uses epsf, 6 figures (appended), corrections in

The Reaction at Threshold
We consider the chiral expansion for the reaction in
heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. To order we derive novel
low--energy theorems that compare favorably with recent determinations of the
total cross sections for and .Comment: 7 pp, LateX (uses epsf.sty), 3 figures appended as ps files (split

Izobarni spin v fotojedrskih reakcijah
Present evidence for isobaric spin splitting of the photonuclear giant dipole resonance is discussed on some examples. In particular, it is shown that the experiments on 11B are inconclusive. For 90Zr the ratio of integrated cross sections for the two isospin components
is predicted, together with the corresponding ratio for some reaction channels.V prvem delu sta na kratko povzeti splošna ocena razmerja jakosti obeh izotopsko-spinskih komponent fotojedrske dipolne veleresonance in ocena nujnega energijskega razmaka. Za razumevanje meritev je potreben študij posameznih reakcijskih kanalov, kajti nekateri kanali kažejo močno izospinsko selektivnost. Posebej so obravnavana nekatera jedra.
General properties of the pion production reaction in nuclear matter
The pion production reaction on was
studied at incident pion energies of = 240, 260, 280, 300, and
320 MeV. The experiment was performed using the pion-channel at TRIUMF,
and multiparticle events, () and
(), were detected with the CHAOS spectrometer. Results
are reported in the form of both differential and total cross sections, and are
compared to theoretical predictions and the reaction phase space. The present
investigation of the T-dependence of the
reaction complements earlier examinations of the A-dependence of the reaction,
which was measured using , , , , , and
targets at 280 MeV. Some general properties of the
pion-induced pion production reaction in nuclear matter will be presented,
based on the combined results of the two studies.Comment: 23 pages, Latex, accepted for publication in Nucl. Phys.
Determination of the Michel Parameters rho, xi, and delta in tau-Lepton Decays with tau --> rho nu Tags
Using the ARGUS detector at the storage ring DORIS II, we have
measured the Michel parameters , , and for
decays in -pair events produced at
center of mass energies in the region of the resonances. Using
as spin analyzing tags, we find , , , , and . In addition, we report
the combined ARGUS results on , , and using this work
und previous measurements.Comment: 10 pages, well formatted postscript can be found at

CP asymmetry in in a general two-Higgs-doublet model with fourth-generation quarks
We discuss the time-dependent CP asymmetry of decay in an
extension of the Standard Model with both two Higgs doublets and additional
fourth-generation quarks. We show that although the Standard Model with
two-Higgs-doublet and the Standard model with fourth generation quarks alone
are not likely to largely change the effective from the decay of
, the model with both additional Higgs doublet and
fourth-generation quarks can easily account for the possible large negative
value of without conflicting with other experimental
constraints. In this model, additional large CP violating effects may arise
from the flavor changing Yukawa interactions between neutral Higgs bosons and
the heavy fourth generation down type quark, which can modify the QCD penguin
contributions. With the constraints obtained from processes
such as and , this model can lead to the
effective to be as large as in the CP asymmetry of .Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, references added, to appear in Eur.Phys.J.
Evidence for an Excess of Soft Photons in Hadronic Decays of Z^0
Soft photons inside hadronic jets converted in front of the DELPHI main
tracker (TPC) in events of qqbar disintegrations of the Z^0 were studied in the
kinematic range 0.2 < E_gamma < 1 GeV and transverse momentum with respect to
the closest jet direction p_T < 80 MeV/c. A clear excess of photons in the
experimental data as compared to the Monte Carlo predictions is observed. This
excess (uncorrected for the photon detection efficiency) is (1.17 +/- 0.06 +/-
0.27) x 10^{-3} gamma/jet in the specified kinematic region, while the expected
level of the inner hadronic bremsstrahlung (which is not included in the Monte
Carlo) is (0.340 +/- 0.001 +/- 0.038) x 10^{-3} gamma/jet. The ratio of the
excess to the predicted bremsstrahlung rate is then (3.4 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.8),
which is similar in strength to the anomalous soft photon signal observed in
fixed target experiments with hadronic beams.Comment: 37 pages, 9 figures, Accepted by Eur. Phys. J.
